Table - best surf conditions forecast for Anglet - La Petite Madrague over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at the next 16 days for Anglet - La Petite Madrague. To be honest, it’s a pretty flat spell for a while, so we’re playing the long game here.
The water is sitting at 76°, which is 7° warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s seriously unusual, feels like bathwater.
Right now, and for the next week or so, there’s nothing doing. The swell is tiny, mostly under 2ft, and the energy is weak. The wind is messy, often cross-onshore or onshore, and the forecast is calling it “poor surf conditions” all the way through. There’s a brief moment on Friday afternoon, the 10th of July, where it goes glassy, but the swell is still only 2ft with a 9-second period – not worth a paddle. Saturday the 11th morning has offshore wind, but again, it’s only 2ft. You’d be scratching for anything.
The gap of decent surf stretches all the way to the second week. The first real blip of interest comes on Sunday the 19th of July morning. The wind is light and cross-off from the NE, the swell is 1ft from the WNW, but the energy is still low. It’s clean, but tiny.
The standout window is around Friday the 24th of July. That morning we see a jump in swell to 6ft from the NW, with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy hits 439 (moderate). The wind is light cross-onshore, so it’ll be a bit lumpy but rideable. For a beach/jetty setup like this, that’s the best we’re going to get. The afternoon of the 24th picks up the same 6ft swell, but the wind picks up to 12 mph from the NW, making it choppy.
Because the swell is under 8ft, it’s still manageable for most, but the 6ft mark is getting a bit punchy for beginners. The period is short at 8 seconds, so it’ll be a bit crumbly and soft. Also, the swell direction is NW, which is cross to the optimum W, so it won’t be perfect.
Crowds here are “sometimes,” so on the 24th, you might share the lineup, but it won’t be a zoo.
That’s it. One real target in the entire 16 days: the morning of Friday the 24th of July. Everything else is a no-go.
Rusty.
