Table - best surf conditions forecast for Adraga over the next 16 days.
Right, well, I’m not gonna lie to you, the outlook for the next two and a half weeks is a bit of a tough one for us here at Adraga. The finder’s pretty much a blank page for any decent surf. It’s a beach and reef setup, exposed to the open ocean, but the wind’s just not cooperating. We’ve got a solid run of poor conditions lining up, with the only real chance of a wave being a couple of brief windows early on.
The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing strange there.
Let’s start with Sunday the 12th of July. The morning’s the only time worth even looking at. We’ve got a small 2 ft swell out of the west, with a period of 9 seconds and a light south breeze, cross-offshore. It’s clean, with combined wave energy of 140 (moderate) – you’ll find some surfable waves, but they’re very ordinary. The afternoon’s a write-off with stronger west-southwest winds and a cross-chop.
Monday the 13th of July is a similar story. The morning sees a tiny 2 ft swell from the northwest, 8-second period, with a light south-southwest cross-off. It’s clean, but the energy’s down to 78 (weak). It’s surfable, but you’ll be scratching for anything with shape. The afternoon’s a mess.
Then from Tuesday the 14th of July right through to the end of the forecast window on the 27th, it’s a consistent run of poor surf. The wind’s mostly cross-onshore, onshore, or just plain messy, coming from the north and northwest. The swell bumps up a bit, hitting 5 ft to 5 ft around the 18th to the 20th, but it’s all wind-affected, lumpy, and choppy. That kind of size with that wind is just ugly. The combined energy does get into the 200s (strong) on the 18th, 19th, and 20th, but it’s wasted on the conditions. The period stays short, mostly 6 to 7 seconds, so it’s just a messy, blown-out windswell.
For the first week, the only real glimmer is Sunday morning, the 12th, and maybe Monday morning, the 13th, for a paddle in the clean but tiny stuff. If you’re a beginner, the swell never gets above 3 ft in the clean windows, so it’s safe, but there’s nothing to ride. When the swell does get over 5 ft around the 18th, it’s too big for beginners anyway, but it’s also only for experts given the state of the wind.
Honestly, with this persistent cross-onshore and onshore wind and the swell being a short-period, wind-driven mess, this setup at Adraga looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing for the majority of the period. The second week is a write-off.
Chin up, though – it tends not to stay this poor for long, and forecasts can change.
