Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Adraga's got cooking over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it's a bit of a tough start. For the first ten days or so, the surf is pretty lackluster. We're looking at small, weak swells, mostly around 1ft to 4ft, and the wind is a constant cross-onshore from the NNW. It's going to be choppy and bumpy, not really offering anything worth getting excited about. The wave energy is low to moderate, with readings like 73 and 97 early on, so there's just not enough push to make it fun. You'll be fighting the wind for nothing. This stretch runs from Sunday the 5th right through to Tuesday the 14th of July.
Now, things start to change a bit around the 15th and 16th of July. The swell bumps up to 5ft, but the wind gets stronger, with fresh to strong breezes making it messy. It's not the clean conditions you want. The energy is picking up, hitting over 300, but the quality just isn't there for a good paddle session.
The real standout, and the only one worth circling on your calendar, is the morning of Saturday, July 18th and the morning of Sunday, July 19th. The swell jumps up to a solid 8ft from the NNW, with a period of 9 seconds. The water temp is sitting at about 67°, which is totally average for this time of year. Now, here’s the thing – this is a "beach and reef" setup at Adraga. An 8ft swell is proper big, and with the wind forecast to be offshore, it could be firing, but this is experts only. The wave energy is cranking hard at 1084, so there’s a ton of power moving through. For the rest of us, it’s going to look absolutely intimidating. The afternoon on the 18th and the 19th look less favorable onshore.
So, to sum it up: you’ve got a long flat spell that runs for a full 12 days, from the 5th through to the 16th of July. If you're an experienced charger, the dawn patrol on the 18th and 19th of July is the only real window. It's a big, powerful groundswell (9-second period), so expect long lulls between sets, but the waves that come through will be heavy. A word of warning though – it's over 8ft, so if you're not dialed in, give this one a miss. If it's too much for paddle surfing, the strong, clean wind and big swell might make this spot look a lot more fun for the kite crew.
Rusty.
