The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
The next 16 days are a bit of a mixed bag, and honestly, we’ve got a long wait ahead for anything decent. The first real taste of surf sticks out as the only true standout, but there’s some serious size later on that’s gonna be a sight to see, even if it’s not for paddling.
We start off with a real flat spell. From Friday 17th July right through to Sunday 26th July, the surf is just... not happening. It’s a long dry stretch of nothing. The wind is howling onshore, the swell is tiny and weak, and the energy is just pathetic. The combined energy figures are in the dumps, barely scraping into triple digits on a few days (like 101 on Monday 20th morning, and 133 that afternoon), but it’s all poor surf.
Then, the tide turns. The standout action is at Adraga on Tuesday 28th July. This is the one to circle. We’ve got a solid 8ft to 8ft of swell pumping in from the NNW, with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is cooking at 786 and 850 (moderate, but solid). The thing is, the wind is light and cross-onshore, and the comments say the swell is predicted to be too big for this break. With over 8ft of swell, this is strictly for experts only. For the average surfer, it’s a “watch and admire” session. The water temp is around 67°F, which is about normal for this time of year, no big anomaly.
The next day, Wednesday 29th July, the swell jumps to a whopping 10ft from the NNW, with a 9-second period. The combined energy hits a massive 1331 and 1194 (strong energy). The morning wind is light from the S, making it cross-offshore and clean. That’s a beautiful sight, but again, 10ft is too big for this break. It’s a heavy, expert-only scenario. The Thursday 30th July morning looks similar, with 8ft, clean conditions, and a light southerly breeze, but it’s still on the edge of being too much.
The second week of the forecast (from 28th July onwards) is a constant barrage of solid, powerful swell, but it’s all too big. The consistency is decent, but the size tops out at 10ft on the 29th and 31st. The energy is through the roof, with a 1406 on Friday 31st morning. The winds are variable, swinging from light and clean to moderate cross-onshore. The crowd profile at Adraga is “sometimes,” so it’s not a secret but it’s not a zoo either.
So, for the average surfer, the whole 16 days is a bit of a write-off. The first week is a total flat, the second week is all heavy, expert-only slabs. The best bet for the brave is the Tuesday 28th to Thursday 30th window, with clean morning winds and a big, powerful WNW swell. But for the rest of us, it’s a time to watch the horizon and wait for the next tide.
Rusty.
