Table - best surf conditions forecast for Adraga over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for Adraga over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, the outlook for Adraga is a real mixed bag, and for most of the run, it’s going to be a tough watch. The swell energy (117) is weak initially, hardly anything to excite anyone. The water’s a bit colder than normal for this time of year at 65°F, which is notable – a full 2°F cooler than usual, so you’ll feel that chill.
We kick off on Sunday afternoon, but with a cross-shore wind and a short-period 2ft NW swell, it’s just poor surf conditions. That sets the tone for the first week. Day after day we get these tiny, weak swells from the NW and NNW, mostly cross-onshore or onshore winds. The combined energy stays low (81, 79, 85...), and we’re looking at 1ft to 3ft of messy, choppy slop right through to Wednesday the 16th. Total write-off.
There’s a bit more size from Friday the 17th, with swell pushing 4ft to 5ft, but it’s 5-second windswell and the wind is howling from the north. Moderate to fresh cross-onshore breeze means serious chop. It’s unrideable. The energy climbs to 146 – still weak.
Into the second weekend, the swell jumps. Saturday the 18th sees 6ft, and Sunday the 19th hits 8ft, with NNW energy climbing fast (332, 655). But the wind is still a messy cross-onshore, so the surface is lumpy and choppy. It’s frustrating for a spot that’s fairly consistent and exposed to WNW swell. This is the kind of setup where, with the significant swell and strong onshore wind on a beach-and-reef setup, you might honestly be looking at kite-surfing conditions rather than paddle-surfing.
Now for the only real standout, and it’s a big one but it’s also a tricky one. On Monday morning, the 20th of July, there’s a massive pulse. Swell height hits 10ft from the NNW with a period of 9 seconds, and the wave energy just goes nuclear at 1458 – that’s strong, no doubt. The wind is actually lighter, just a gentle breeze, but here’s the catch: the forecast says the swell is predicted to be too big for this break. At 10ft, this is expert-only territory, maybe even beyond that for Adraga. Tuesday the 21st morning is similar: 8ft, energy of 1242, and a favourable comment on wind and tide – but again, too big. These are the two best moments on offer, but only for absolute experts who know the break intimately, and even then it’s a wild card. For everyone else, the rest of the forecast is a lot of windy, choppy, or undersized junk right through to the end of the month. There’s a gap of nearly a week of poor surf after that big swell drops off, with small, short-period windswell and strong north winds crushing any quality.
So yeah, a couple of monster swells that might be too much of a good thing, and then a whole lot of nothing. If you’re an expert and know Adraga’s limits, keep an eye on the 20th and 21st. Otherwise, this is a long, frustrating run.
Rusty.
