Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what the next couple of weeks have in store for us.
The long-range picture is a bit of a struggle, to be honest. We’re looking at a long stretch of poor conditions ahead, with only a tiny glimmer of something surfable right at the end of the first week. Overall, the pattern is dominated by messy, cross-onshore winds that are going to keep things choppy and unappealing for a while.
The only real standout in this whole forecast is a brief window on the morning of Thursday, the 9th. For a moment there, things go glassy at Adraga. We’re talking about a clean, glassy surface with a tiny 2ft swell rolling in from the WNW. It’s not going to be epic, but after a week of nothing, a clean 2ft wave is a welcome sight. The water temp is sitting at 66°, which is pretty much what you’d expect for this time of year.
Before that? A whole lot of nothing. From Saturday the 4th right through to Wednesday the 8th, it’s a write-off. You’ve got tiny swell, bad winds, and mostly 'poor surf conditions' stamped all over it. Don’t bother.
After that Thursday morning window, the wind swings back onshore and the size starts to pick up, but the quality completely falls away. From the 10th onwards, we see the swell building steadily, with waves hitting over 7ft by the 11th and pushing towards 8ft on the 13th. That’s a decent amount of juice, with the combined swell energy climbing up into the 600s (strong energy), but the wind is just terrible. It’s a constant cross-onshore mess from the NNW at 18 to 25 mph, which is going to turn that beach and reef setup into a lumpy, choppy nightmare. The period is a short 8 seconds too, so it’s not going to have any real punch or shape. For an advanced surfer, it might be a challenge, but for anyone else, this setup looks far more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Looking further out into the second week, the 15th through the 19th, the pattern doesn’t really improve. A persistent cross-onshore wind keeps the surf quality poor. The swell stays in the 3ft to 7ft range, but it’s all messy. There’s nothing to get excited about.
So, to sum it up: if you’re desperate, set your alarm for the morning of Thursday the 9th. That glassy 2ft window is your best and pretty much only shot. After that, it’s a long wait until conditions clean up again.
Rusty.
