The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get into it for Poca. It's a reef setup that prefers a good SW swell, so we're working with a bit of a mismatch here for most of the outlook. The water is sitting at 66°, which is a bit colder than we'd normally expect for this time of year.

The honest truth is, the next two weeks are looking pretty tough for Poca. There's a massive gap of days with barely anything rideable. From the start of the outlook, we get a few days with small waves, but the conditions are just ordinary. Then we hit a long stretch from at least the 6th of August through to the 16th of August where the wave energy is so low or the winds are so messy that it's really not worth paddling out. We're talking combined swell energy dropping to as low as 28 (weak) and staying weak for days on end.

The only real standout, and I mean the only one, comes on the morning of the 16th of August. The swell picks up to 5 ft from the NW with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy hits a moderate 240. The real kicker is that offshore wind from the N at 6 mph. That's light and clean, and for a reef, that's a goldilocks wind. It's the only time in the window where the stars align for a decent session. The swell's a bit short-period, but that offshore wind should make it workable and clean. It's over a week and a half away, so I'd keep an eye on that forecast, but it's the one to pencil in.

For the rest of the time, there's not much for the paddle surfer. With the small, weak swell and persistent cross-off or strong offshore winds, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. Honestly, it's a pretty barren run, but for a rarely-breaking reef like Poca, a blank spell like this is more normal than you'd hope. Forecasts can change, so don't give up hope entirely.

Rusty, signing off.
