Praia Grande Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, grab your board and let’s talk waves. To be straight with you, the next couple of weeks are looking pretty frustrating around Praia Grande. The ocean’s gonna be doing a whole lot of nothing for a while, and when it does wake up, the wind’s gonna be all over it. There are no good options in the first week, so if you’re keen, you might be better off doing some maintenance on your sticks or finding a job that pays for that new wetsuit.

The water’s sitting at 67°, which is about average for this time of year, so nothing weird there. The first few days are just junk. Wednesday the 5th and Thursday the 6th have some knee-to-waist high scraps, but the northerly cross-breeze is going to have it all chopped up and messy. Not worth the paddle out. The energy is weak, around 170 to 317, and the swell is just not organized. Friday the 7th is more of the same, and the weekend drops off even more. By Saturday the 8th, we’re looking at tiny 2ft leftovers with the wind going cross-onshore. It’s flat, it’s bumpy, and it’s about as inviting as a cold shower.

The start of next week, the 11th and 12th, still isn't doing us any favors. Sure, there’s a tiny pulse of longer-period swell (12 seconds) on Tuesday morning, but it’s only 2ft and the cross-shore wind is still messing with the surface. The energy is moderate at 155, but it’s not enough to make it fun. We’re looking at a solid 8-day gap with no decent surf. If you're a patient surfer, this is the test.

Now, here’s where things get interesting but also a little wild. Around the 14th and 15th, the swell really kicks in. We’re talking 7ft to 8ft faces from the NNW. The combined energy jumps to 545 and then up to 916, which is strong-very strong. This is proper swell, but here’s the catch: the wind is howling out of the north at 25 to 28 mph, and it’s all cross-shore. It’s going to be a mess. This is big, stormy, and lumpy. For a beach break like Praia Grande, this is going to be a washing machine. Honestly, the setup looks way more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. If you’re an expert looking for a battle, Saturday the 15th could have some size, but it won’t be clean. The period is 9 seconds, which for that size means it’s going to be a bit walled and chaotic.

After that, the swell backs down a bit through the 17th and 18th, but the wind stays strong. We’re still looking at messy, cross-shore conditions. The waves are 5ft, but it’s not going to be good. From the 19th onward, the swell fades out, and we’re back to small, wind-blown scraps.

So, the long and short of it is: there’s no true standout in this whole 16-day window. The only time there’s real size is also the time the wind is blowing hard. The most promising window, if you’re desperate, is around the 15th of August, but only for experts who don’t mind a total free-for-all. For everyone else, it’s a blank run. But hey, that’s the ocean for you. It doesn’t stay poor for long, and forecasts can change. Keep an eye on the wind, and maybe we’ll get lucky.
