Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards.
Honestly, it’s a pretty flat start. This 16-day window is looking bleak for any proper surf. We’ve got a gap that stretches from the start right through the whole period with basically nothing worth getting wet for. The only spot that ever offers a chance is Bicas, a reef break that rarely breaks. The first time we see anything that could be called a wave is Thursday morning, July 2nd, but even then it’s just 4ft from the NW with a 10 second period and a cross-shore NE wind at 9 mph. The combined swell energy is weak (340), and the water is 67°, which is bang on average for this time of year. That session is rated a dud.
Friday morning, July 3rd, things get glassy. We’ve got a SE wind at 3 mph, making it glassy, and the swell drops to 3ft from the NW, period 10 seconds. The energy is still weak (162). It’s surfable but very ordinary. Still, it’s the best we’ve got all week. After that, it’s downhill fast – Saturday morning, July 4th, is glassy with a 2ft westerly swell, and Sunday morning, July 5th, is glassy but only 1.0ft. The rest of the days are a mix of onshore winds and tiny waves, with the combined energy barely cracking 100. The swell never gets over 5ft, so it’s safe for beginners, but honestly, there’s nothing to ride.
There is no standout session. No point picking a highlight. The only semi-decent surf is Friday morning, July 3rd, because of the glassy conditions. But it’s tiny. Even then, crowds are possible at Bicas. For a spot that rarely breaks, when it does, people know.
For the second week, it’s more of the same. Days and days of onshore wind and tiny, weak swell. There’s a brief moment on Tuesday morning, July 14th, with a 0.7ft swell from the SSW with a 16-second period, but that’s groundswell, and with no size, it’s just a long wait for nothing.
Mate, this is a blank run. If you’re a surfer in this region, this is one of those times to find something else to do. The forecasts can change, but right now, there’s nothing I’d recommend.
Rusty.
