Table - best surf conditions forecast for Wurtulla over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here.
Let’s call it like it is. The next week and a half is pretty lackluster, with a big gap of nearly ten days where the surf is either tiny or completely wrecked by wind.
The only break on the radar is Wurtulla (Queensland). Starting out this Saturday the 11th into Sunday the 12th, you’ve got small, weak ESE swell around 3 to 3 feet, with energy readings of 199 to 262. The wind swings offshore Sunday morning, so it’s clean but the wave is just small. It drops to nothing by Monday the 13th, with clean but flat conditions – 0.6 to 1 foot – for a couple of days. Come Wednesday afternoon the 15th, a bump of 5 feet shows from the SE, but that’s with a fresh cross-onshore at 30 km/h and a period of only 5 seconds – lumpy, poor quality.
Then Thursday the 16th through Sunday the 19th, the swell jumps up to 7 to 8 feet from the SE, with energy over 1000. The problem? The wind is howling out of the SSE at 35-40 km/h, creating a strong cross-shore chop. The period is short, around 8 seconds. This is not a paddle surfing setup. More like a kiteboarding day.
The real winner shows up Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st. Monday morning you get a clean 7-foot ESE swell with a light S offshore breeze – 6 mph, clean face, energy of 625. Tuesday morning the 21st is even better: 6 feet from the ESE, light SW offshore at 6 mph, glassy, energy of 653. Water temp is normal for the time of year, nothing to note. That’s your best window – by far.
After that, the swell tapers off into the high 4-foot range by Thursday the 23rd, with a brief glassy morning but shorter period. The last few days through the 26th drop down to around 3 to 4 feet, clean in the mornings but not the quality we saw mid-week.
So here’s the game plan: ignore the first week and the windy blow-out days. Circle Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st of July on the calendar. Dawn patrol at Wurtulla, clean offshore winds, head-high plus ESE groundswell. That’s the call.
Rusty.
