Table - best surf conditions forecast for Wurtulla over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at the 16-day picture for the Sunshine Coast.
Well, truth be told, it’s a bit of a flat spell we’re in for a stretch. The first real call to get wet is Friday morning, July 10th, but I wouldn’t get too excited. Wurtulla’s got a 6ft swell from the SE, but it’s a short period 10 seconds and a bit messy with a 9 mph cross-shore wind. The combined energy is strong, sitting at (1062), but the conditions are just marginal. That afternoon, it drops and gets choppy – not worth it.
Saturday, July 11th, is where we start to see a glimmer. The morning is your best bet of the early run. Wurtulla has a clean 3ft swell from the SE, period bumping up to 11 seconds, and a light 3 mph cross-off shore from the SSW. The water’s about average for this time of year. It’s glassy, small, and clean – perfect for a beginner session on a longboard. The combined energy is moderate (231). After that, the swell just fades away through the rest of the week. We’re looking at tiny, knee-high leftovers and plenty of onshore crud from Sunday through to Thursday, July 16th. That Thursday morning, the wind cranks up from the south at 22 mph, and the swell jumps to 6ft, but it’s blown out and lumpy, and by the afternoon it’s an 8ft mess with strong cross-shore winds. That’s kite-surfing territory, not paddle surfing.
The following week is a real mixed bag. From Friday, July 17th, through to Sunday, July 19th, we’ve got consistent 4ft to 5ft SE swell, but near-constant cross-shore winds from the south around 15-22 mph keep it choppy and ugly. The combined energy is moderate to strong (541 to 817), but the quality is poor. Not a good look.
Then, finally, a stand-out. Monday morning, July 20th. Wurtulla (Sunshine Coast) wakes up with 3ft of SE swell, an 11-second period, and glassy conditions. The wind is a light 3 mph from the SW, making it clean. The combined energy is moderate (213). This is the pick of the bunch – small, clean, and glassy. For a beginner or someone on a longboard, this is the one to circle. The afternoon gets a bit iffy, but that morning window is yours.
The last few days of the run, from July 21st to the 25th, are tiny. We’re looking at 2ft and below, with very weak combined energy (under 100). The mornings of the 21st and 22nd might offer a glassy micro-session, but it’s really just for the patient.
So, bottom line: the best wave on offer is the glassy, clean 3ft SE swell at Wurtulla on the morning of Monday, July 20th. It’s small, but it’s clean. The rest of the 16 days are either flat, blown out, or both. Don’t hold your breath for the rest of it.
Rusty.
