Table - best surf conditions forecast for Wurtulla over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get into it. This is Rusty, and I’m lookin’ at what we’ve got for the next couple of weeks at Wurtulla.
First up, the honest truth: the first week-and-a-bit is a write-off. From Monday, July 13th right through to Thursday, July 23rd, it’s a real struggle. The swell is small, short period, and the wind is all over the shop – cross, cross-on, and strong. The combined wave energy is weak to moderate (68 to 1262), but the conditions are just plain poor. The wind is messy, it’s choppy, and nothing is lining up for a clean wave. There’s a couple of mornings with offshore wind, but the swell is too small to get excited about. For a beach break, this kind of stretch is a real bummer, and it’s gonna be a long wait.
The first real glimmer of hope comes on Friday, July 24th. The morning is clean with a light cross-offshore breeze, and the swell is a modest 4 ft from the east, with a period of 10 seconds. The combined energy is moderate (237), and the wind is light. It’s not a huge swell, but it’s clean and surfable – a good one for the beginners and cruisers. The crowd factor is “often” here, so don’t expect to be alone, but with the wind light, it’s a decent paddle.
Then, Saturday, July 25th is the standout. The morning starts with a glassy, light offshore wind and a 4 ft east swell, and the afternoon is even better – glassy, no wind, with a 4 ft east swell. That’s about as good as it gets around here. The combined wave energy is moderate (283 and 335), and the period is a bit shorter (8-9 seconds), so it’ll be a bit fat on the take-off, but with glassy conditions, it’s gonna be a fun clean wave. That Saturday afternoon session is the pick of the whole forecast.
Sunday, July 26th morning is another clean option, with a 3 ft east swell but a longer period of 12 seconds and a light cross-offshore breeze. The energy is moderate (360). A longer period like that for a beach break means it might break a bit straight, but with the wind light, it’s still a good paddle. The afternoon gets a bit messy with a stronger wind.
After that, the swell drops off and the wind picks up again, fading into small, clean but weak surf into the end of the month. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing crazy.
So, to sum it up: the first 11 days are a skip. The real action is on the 24th to the 26th of July, with Saturday the 25th being the best on offer. Grab it while you can.
