Table - best surf conditions forecast for Willow Creek over the next 16 days.
Righto, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Willow Creek over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, mate, it’s a bit of a mixed bag and not the most inspiring run of surf we’ve seen. There’s no real stand-out, and for a stretch of days, it’s going to be tough to get a decent wave. The first real chance to get in the water doesn’t look like it’s coming until around Sunday the 12th, so there’s a bit of a flat spell to sit through before that.
The only real glimmer of hope – and I’m saying this with a bit of caution – is the Sunday morning on the 12th of July. We’ve got a light 3ft swell rolling in from the SSW, and with a period of 14 seconds, it’s got some decent groundswell energy behind it. The combined energy is sitting at 530 (moderate). The real kicker here is that the wind is set to drop to nothing, giving us glassy conditions. For a reef break that’s exposed to the west, and with the optimum swell coming from the west, this SSW direction is a bit off-angle, but when it’s that clean, it’s worth a look. The water temp is sitting at 57°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year by about 2°.
A few other sessions pop up that are worth a mention, but they’re not going to set the world on fire. On Tuesday the 14th, the afternoon sees a bump in size to 6ft from the WNW, but with a short period of 8 seconds and a cross-shore breeze, it’s going to be a bit messy. That same pattern sticks around for the Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, with 7ft and 5ft WNW swell, but again, the wind is cross-shore and the period is short, so not much to write home about.
Further out, the 23rd of July (Thursday morning) is worth a mention. Another glassy morning predicted with a 3ft SSW swell and a 14-second period. The combined energy is 531 (moderate), and with the wind flat calm, it could be a decent little session. But it’s a long way off, so take that with a grain of salt.
Overall, Sunday morning the 12th is your best bet for a clean, quiet paddle. The rest of the window is mostly cross-shore wind and marginal conditions. It’s the kind of run where you check the cam, keep your expectations low, and maybe give the kite a go when the wind picks up.
Rusty.
