Table - best surf conditions forecast for Trearddur Bay (Holy Island) over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – for Trearddur Bay (Holy Island) over this whole 16-day stretch, it looks pretty grim. We’ve got a massive blank run ahead, so don't be fooled by a few tiny bumps that show up on the charts; the wave energy is basically non-existent and the quality is marked as poor from start to finish.
We kick off Friday, 10 July, with a clean looking morning and a gentle cross-off breeze from the NNE at 9 mph. But there’s zero swell. That sets the tone for a long, long wait. The water temp is sitting at 60°F and it's running a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, which would be nice if there were any waves to enjoy.
You’re not going to see anything worth paddling out for until we get deep into the period. The first several days have consistent offshore winds – Saturday the 11th has a glassy morning (3 mph from the N), and Sunday even kicks up a fresh offshore breeze around 19 mph from ENE. But all that clean, offshore wind is blowing over flat, energy-less water. The combined energy reading is 0 for a long stretch.
It’s not until Monday the 13th afternoon that we see a sniff of swell – 0.3 ft from the south with a very long 19-second period, but that’s only 11 units of combined energy. That's barely a ripple, and the wave comment is still "poor surf conditions." This pattern sticks around for days. Through the 14th, 15th, 16th, up to the 17th, we get reading after reading of 0.3 ft, long period from the SW, with solid offshore winds... but it’s just not enough to make anything rideable. The energy stays pitifully low.
Things get a tiny bit more interesting around the 18th. Saturday afternoon, we see a bump to 1.0 ft from the WNW with a short, messy 3-second period and only 2 units of energy – that’s not surf. Even the bigger numbers later are disappointing. On the 21st of July (Tuesday), we get a bump to 3 ft from SSW (4-second period, 31 energy) in the morning, then 4 ft from SSW (6-second period, 93 energy) in the afternoon, with a clean cross-off wind from the N at 9 mph. That’s the strongest swell of the whole run, but combined energy of 93 is still weak wave energy, and the poor surf quality tag is a dealbreaker.
The 22nd has a 4 ft WSW swell with a light offshore from the NE, but that’s still noted as poor conditions. As we head into the final days (23rd-25th), the winds start turning cross-onshore and onshore, building up in strength to a strong breeze around 25 mph on the 25th. The swell stays in the 2 ft to 4 ft range with short, weak periods and energy readings under 65, and it’s all cross-onshore and messy. That’s not paddle surfing; that’s kite surfing weather if you’re desperate.
Honestly, there are no standouts here. If you look across the whole period, there’s not a single day the models think is worth scoring above 0 out of 10. For an inconsistent spot like Trearddur Bay, a blank run like this is just how it goes sometimes. Forecasts can change, but right now, save your petrol.
Rusty.
