Table - best surf conditions forecast for Trearddur Bay (Holy Island) over the next 16 days.
Right, folks. Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Trearddur Bay (Holy Island). I’ll be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are a proper test of patience. There’s a long, barren stretch ahead, so don’t go waxing up just yet.
We’re looking at a 16-day window that starts off with a whole lot of nothing. For the first two weeks, the swell is barely a whisper. We’re talkin’ days on end of flat, poor surf conditions. From Saturday the 11th right through to Saturday the 25th of July, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a wave worth paddling for. The combined energy figures are all in the dumps, mostly single digits or zero (energy 0 to 13). It’s a real dry spell, and with the water temp sitting at 60°F for the start, that’s about 2°F warmer than usual for this time of year – a bit of a warm blanket on a flat ocean.
There is a tiny flicker of hope on Friday the 17th of July. The morning starts with glassy conditions, a light westerly breeze at 3 mph, and a little 1ft swell from the SW. The period is short, though – only 6 seconds – so it’s not gonna have much punch. Still, if you’re desperate, that’s the cleanest the water will look. The bay is fairly exposed to the SW, so it’s got the right direction, but the energy is weak (energy 13). It’s an inconsistent spot, so don’t expect a party.
The real standout, if you can call it one, arrives on Sunday the 26th of July. We finally see some life with a 5ft swell from the WNW, pushing the combined energy up to 136 (moderate wave energy). The wind is offshore from the NE at 16 mph, keeping things clean. The period is a short 6 seconds, so it’s a windswell, not a groundswell. This is the biggest swell on offer, but it’s right on that 5ft mark – still okay for most, but it’s only a one-day wonder. The morning looks best. For a break that’s inconsistent, this is notable.
The afternoon of the 26th drops back to 3ft and 58 energy, so the window is tight. The rest of the run is a washout. Honestly, if you’re a kite surfer, the windier, cleaner days mid-week might look more interesting than anything a paddle boarder can chase.
Forget the long-range stuff; it’s all a gamble from here. The second week holds nothing but flat spells. Keep your eyes on the 26th, and even then, don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
