The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here with a look at the next couple of weeks. Let’s be straight with you—this is a tough one for Trearddur Bay. The whole 16-day window looks like a bit of a flat spell, so if you’re hanging out for a proper session, you might need to find something else to do.
We start off the run on Tuesday, July 14th, with nothing but tiny, weak dribble. The swell is a miserable 0.3ft from the south, with a long period of 18 seconds, but that’s just a ghost out there—the combined energy is barely a whisper at just 10 (weak). The water is a touch warmer than average at 61°F, but it’s not going to help much. Winds are offshore from the ENE at 15 mph, which would be clean if there was any wave to ride, but there isn’t. This pattern just keeps repeating itself day after day. We’re looking at a solid stretch of days with zero or near-zero swell, all the way through to the end of July.
The only real flicker of life appears on the 26th of July, when we finally see a bit of a pulse. The swell bumps up to 3ft on Sunday morning, coming from the SSW with a very short period of 4 seconds. The combined energy ticks up to 31 (still weak). Don’t get too excited, though—the wind is cross-shore from the NW at 12 mph, and it’s bringing a knee-high, messy crumble. The break is inconsistent, and when it’s this small and weak, it’s only really going to be of interest to beginners looking for a very gentle paddle. The crowds are sometimes around, but with conditions this poor, you’ll probably have it to yourself.
From there, the forecast goes a bit lumpy and cross-onshore, even if the swell tries to hang around at 2ft to 3ft. The wind on the 27th whips up to 22 mph from the WNW, and the combined energy hits 52 (still weak)—that’s just a messy, choppy affair that’s better suited for a kite than a paddle.
So, the bottom line: there are no true standout days here. The best of a bad bunch is probably the morning of the 26th, but even that’s a stretch. It’s a long, dry run, and for a spot like Trearddur Bay, this kind of flat spell can be pretty normal. Keep an eye on the charts, though—things can change.
Rusty out.
