Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Cove over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a hard look at what's on the table for the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you: this run is looking pretty bleak for any kind of decent paddle session. We’re looking at a long stretch of small, weak swell and mostly choppy conditions.
The forecast kicks off Saturday, July 11th and it’s a tough start. The Cove is seeing a tiny 2 ft swell coming out of the southeast, but the period is a short 5 seconds, so there’s no grunt behind it. Wind is on it from the southeast at 9 mph, making it a cross-onshore mess. The combined wave energy is a weak 29, which is just sad. Water temp is sitting at 86°, feels about normal for the time of year, but you won't be caring about that because the waves are junk.
This poor pattern just locks in for days. Through Sunday and Monday, the swell stays under 2 ft with periods rarely getting above 8 seconds. The best wind we see is a glassy morning on Sunday, July 12th, but with only 1.0 ft of swell and energy at 15, it's barely a ripple. We get a few clean moments on Saturday morning, July 18th, and again on Sunday morning, July 19th, with light cross-off winds, but the swell is a pathetic 0.7 ft and 0.3 ft. There’s seriously a gap from now until late in the month with nothing worth paddling out for.
Finally, we get a glimmer on Friday, July 24th. The morning shows a cross-off wind from the SSW at 12 mph, which will clean things up, and we get a 1 ft swell from the northeast with an 8-second period and moderate energy of 22. Then the afternoon goes completely glassy with no wind at all, and the swell holds at 1 ft. That Friday afternoon window is the only time in the entire 16 days where you might find a tiny, clean wave to yourself. The break is fairly consistent, but honestly, these are beginner-friendly ankle-snappers at best. Even then, with the swell this small and weak, expect long waits between sets.
Overall, the best advice from me is to save your energy. The setup is more interesting for a kite surfer looking to get out in the wind than for a paddle surfer. Keep hoping, forecasts can change.
Rusty.
