Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Cove over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. I’ve had a good look at what’s coming down the line for The Cove. Let me be straight with you: the 16-day picture is a tough one to get excited about. There’s just no decent, rideable surf on the menu. It’s a long, frustrating stretch with nothing to recommend.
We’re looking at a pretty grim run beginning on Friday, July 10th, and carrying all the way through the period. The first few days are a write-off. On Friday the 10th, that swell is tiny at 2ft from the southeast, with a pitiful period of only 4 seconds. The wind’s blowing cross-onshore at 12 mph, making a mess of things. The wave energy is weak, barely registering 35 (combined energy). It’s just a choppy, short-period bump.
Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th are much the same story – small, weak, and blown out. By Monday the 13th, the swell has dropped to less than 1ft with barely any energy (10-12). There’s a glimmer on Wednesday the 15th morning when the wind goes glassy, but the waves are still only 2ft with an 8-second period and weak energy at 64. That’s not surf, that’s just ripples, even if it is clean.
The pattern doesn’t improve. Throughout the second week, into the 23rd and 24th of July, we see the swell occasionally hitting about 3ft from the southeast, but the period stays short (4-5 seconds) and the wind is always cross-onshore or cross, keeping the surface ugly. The energy stays in the low double digits, rarely cracking 30.
Look, for an intermediate beach-and-reef setup like The Cove, this just isn't doing anything for us. The waves are too small, windy, and weak to even consider paddling out. Honestly, with the persistent onshore wind and small, weak swell, this looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. It’s a blank run, plain and simple.
