Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Cove over the next 16 days.
Hey, Rusty here. I’ve been staring at the charts for The Cove and, honestly, it’s a tough stretch ahead. There’s nothing really worth paddling out for in the next 16 days. The whole period from Thursday, July 9, right through to Friday, July 24, is a flat, choppy mess. The water temp is sitting at 86° – pretty much average for this time of year, so at least the climate’s nice if you’re gonna sit on the beach.
The Cove is a beach-and-reef setup, usually fairly consistent and intermediate-friendly, with an optimum swell from the NNE. But the wind has been stuck out of the SE and ESE, cross-onshore most days, killing any chance of clean lines. Swell heights barely tickle 0.7ft to 3ft, periods are short (mostly 5–9 seconds), and the combined wave energy is weak – we’re talking single digits to low 90s (maximum 91) – which is barely enough to move the foam. No sign of the preferred offshore W wind either.
Since this break normally sees decent surf fairly often, a blank run like this is a bit of a surprise, but it does happen. Forecasts can change, so don’t give up hope. For now, leave the boards in the car and maybe bring a towel. Nothing to chase.
