The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s break down what The Cove has cooking for the next couple of weeks – and spoiler alert, it’s a quiet one. This whole 16-day stretch is a bust for any real surf. Every single session in the data comes back as poor surf conditions. There’s no standout day, no proper swell, and nothing to get stoked on.
From Monday August 17 all the way through to Tuesday September 1, the swell height never gets above 3 feet. The combined swell energy is weak across the board, mostly under 100, with the highest reading just 90 on Thursday August 27 morning (weak energy). The swell direction is mostly from the ESE or SE, which is off the optimum NNE direction for The Cove, so it's never really lining up.
On Tuesday August 18 afternoon, we get a glassy session with a 1-foot swell and a period of 10 seconds (moderate period), but the energy is only 32, and it’s still poor. The wind is glassy, which would be perfect if there was any wave to ride. Water temp on the 17th is about 87°, running close to a degree warmer than usual – nothing major, just a little toasty.
Later, around Wednesday August 26 morning, we see the best combined energy at 63 (still weak) with a 3-foot swell from the SE and a short period of 5 seconds. That’s just bumpy, short-period junk with onshore winds. The setup is beach and reef, but with these tiny, weak waves and cross-on winds, it’s more of a floating session than surfing.
Honestly, there’s not a single day worth paddling out for. If you just want to get wet, the glassy mornings on Tuesday the 18th or Wednesday the 19th might be okay for a splash, but don’t expect a ride. The second week looks similar: small, weak, and wind-affected. A real dry spell.
Rusty.
