Alright, Rusty here, and I'm looking at the local surf picture for us over the next 16 days. I gotta be straight with you—it’s a tough one. The whole outlook is a real flat spell, with no proper surf to get excited about. We’re looking at a long stretch of barely anything, with the first week and a half offering almost nothing but tiny, weak windswell.
The only spot on the radar is Terry’s Cove, a sandbar setup that’s fairly consistent. It’s a beginner-friendly break, but the swell just isn't cooperating. The water is sitting at a warm 87°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only positive.
For the first 10 days, from the 4th of July right through to the 14th, we’ve got a long gap of poor conditions. The swell is tiny, mostly under 2ft, and the wind is all over the place—cross, cross-on, and generally choppy. The combined energy is pathetic, barely cracking double digits (0 to 27). The period is short, mostly 4 to 7 seconds, so it’s just weak, bumpy windswell. Not worth a paddle.
There’s a shift around the 13th and 14th of July. The wind turns nice and clean—cross-off and even offshore on the 14th morning from the NNW. The swell is still tiny, 1ft to 2ft, but it’s a clean southerly groundswell with a period of 7 seconds. The energy is still low (18 to 28), but at least it’s not messy. If you’re desperate for a slide, the early morning of the 14th of July looks best with that light NNW offshore wind, clean conditions, and a little 1ft SSE swell. It’s a glassy, clean option for a longboard.
The last little bump comes on the 19th of July. Sunday morning, the wind goes dead calm, glassy, and we get a 3ft swell from the SW with a 5-second period. The combined energy is 33, still weak, but it’s the biggest we’ll see. The wind is flat calm, so it’ll be glassy. It’s not a standout, but it’s the best on offer in this whole 16-day window. The rest of the time it’s just cross-on junk.
Honestly, for the next two weeks, we’re mostly looking at the water being a lake. Not much for a surfer, but if the wind picks up, it might be more interesting for the kite crew. Stay tuned, forecasts can change, but for now, keep the boards in the shed.
Rusty.
