The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty, and I'm looking at the next couple of weeks for us. I gotta be straight with you – it's a tough stretch. The forecast is pretty bleak for most of the period. We're looking at a long run of days where the conditions just aren't coming together, so you'll want to be patient.
The first sniff of anything worth paddling out for is a long way off, on the 28th of August. Even then, it's marginal. The water is sitting at 62° at Stinson Beach, which is a solid 5° warmer than usual for this time of year – feels like a warm bath.
The real standout, the only thing that's got my heart beating a little faster, is the Thursday morning of the 3rd of September. We've got a tiny 2ft swell coming from the SW, but the period is a very long 15 seconds. That's real groundswell energy, and it's not huge, so it won't just close out. The real kicker though is the wind. It's glassy. Dead flat, offshore from the SW. For a spot like Stinson Beach, that's a rare treat. The combined energy is weak (168), but for a small wave session on a clean, glassy morning, that's our best bet. Get on it early.
Before that, there's a whole lot of nothing. The 31st of August morning shows a bit more size, 6ft, but it's a short-period 8-second WNW windswell and the wind is cross-shore. That's messy. The energy is moderate (585), but the quality won't be there. For the rest of the time, we're looking at cross-onshore winds, choppy surfaces, and small, weak swell. It's a write-off for a good week or more.
So, to sum it up: wait for the glassy morning on the 3rd of September. That's your one real chance for a clean, soulful session. Everything else is either too small, too windy, or too messy. It's a tough run, but that one morning might just be worth the wait.
