The Lowdown
Alright team, Rusty here. Let's break down Stinson Beach in feet and degrees.
We kick off with a teaser this Sunday morning, August 23rd. There's a tiny 1ft groundswell from the SW with a super long 19-second period, glassy wind, and low energy (290). It's clean enough for a beginner to have a fun little session, but that's it. The water temp is sitting about normal for this time of year.
After that morning, the wind turns onshore and it's game over for quality waves through the rest of the week. From Sunday afternoon all the way through the end of August, it's mostly poor conditions. The wind is cross-onshore from the WNW, gusting to 15-19 mph, and the swell mixes up to 4-5ft but with a short, choppy period of 6-8 seconds. By Thursday the 27th, we've got 6ft of lumpy windswell with 463 energy and cross winds. No thanks. Honestly, with that much onshore blow, it's a kiteboarder's playground, not a surfer's.
The first week is a bust. Hang tight.
Into the second week, we get a real reward. The standout is Wednesday morning, September 2nd. We're looking at glassy conditions and a clean 5ft swell from the WNW. The period is a short 8 seconds, but that glassy wind makes it rideable and fun. The energy reads (532). Not huge, but clean. Then the real gem lands Thursday morning, September 3rd. Same glassy wind, a solid 5ft swell from the WNW, period stretching to 9 seconds, and a healthy (786) energy reading. That is the morning to plan for. Conditions look very good.
After that, it gets marginal again, but there's one more glassy shot on Monday morning, September 7th, with a clean 4ft WNW swell.
To sum it up: the first week is a wash. Don't bother. Lock in the morning of Thursday September 3rd—that's your best chance for a proper wave. See you out there.
Rusty.
