Alright, this is Rusty. Let's be straight with you: the next couple of weeks at Stinson Beach are a tough watch. We’ve got a good swell window, and the water is sitting at a very unusual 61°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, but the wind just won't play ball for most of it.
Right out of the gate, from Friday the 3rd through to the end of the first week, we’ve got a mix of onshore and cross-onshore winds messing up what could be decent wave energy. The combined energy is moderate to strong, hitting numbers like 340 (moderate) and even climbing to 1081 (strong) by Tuesday the 7th, but it's all wind-affected. You’ll see a northwesterly swell building through the middle of the week, with Tuesday morning the 7th showing a 6ft NW swell and light cross-onshore winds. That's about as good as it gets in the first week, but “light cross-onshore with small wind ripples” isn't the clean face we’re hoping for. A few sessions later in the week are marginal at best.
The standout moment, and the only real bright spot in the whole forecast, lands on Monday morning the 13th. The stars briefly align: the wind goes glassy, we’ve got a clean 4ft swell from the WNW with a period of 9 seconds, and the combined energy is a moderate 382. The forecast says "expect good surf conditions". That’s the session to circle on your calendar. Get in the water early before the afternoon cross-onshore kicks up. It won't be huge, but it'll be your cleanest window by far.
After that, we drop back into a long run of poor quality. Energy levels pick up again around the 17th and 18th with 7ft to 7ft swells from the WNW, but the period drops to 7-8 seconds (short period, sloppy) and the wind is straight back to cross-onshore.
Honestly, most of this stretch is better suited for a kite if you’ve got one, because the paddle-in surf quality is just not there. We’ve got a big gap of nothing but mediocre to poor conditions until that Monday morning window. Hang in there.
