The Lowdown
Right now, Thursday 16 July, it’s pretty flat out there at Stinson Beach. The whole stretch looks like a write-off for the next few days – cross-onshore winds from the west-northwest at 12 mph, chop, and lumpy conditions. Nothing worth paddling out for. The first real chance of anything surfable comes Saturday morning 18 July, but it’s marginal: a tiny 2.0 ft SW groundswell with a very long 17-second period, light onshore wind, and the combined energy is moderate (552). That’s a long-period swell for a beach break – it might roll in too straight, and the size is barely a ripple. Still, if you’re desperate, you could catch a few closeouts.
Sunday through Wednesday stay small and poor, with the odd marginal window but nothing to get excited about. The only window that stands out is the morning of Saturday 25 July. That morning we’ve got a 3.0 ft SW groundswell with a long 21-second period, light cross-onshore wind from the west at 6 mph, and the combined energy is strong (1444). That’s a lot of energy for the size – those long-period lines could offer some clean, walled-up shape if the tide works. But it’s still a beach break, so the sets might be too straight. The wind is light, so the surface could be fairly smooth. It’s the best of a pretty average run, but don’t expect perfection. The morning of Friday 24 July also has a similar setup – 2.3 ft SW, 24-second period, energy 978 – but again, small and marginal
