The Lowdown

Alright, let’s talk about Racine, folks. I’m Rusty, and I’ll be straight with you.

Right now through the entire 16-day window, we’ve got a whole lot of nada. Zero, zip, no swell to speak of. The forecast is showing flat conditions across every single day, with no waves coming in. What we do have is a lot of poor surf conditions, and that’s all there is.

The water temperature at Racine is sitting at 73°F and that’s about a touch warmer than normal for the time of year, so if you’re after a paddle or a swim, it’s not bad. But as for surfing? There’s absolutely nothing to ride. The first recommended surf I can find is… well, there isn’t one. The whole 16 days is a blank.

Now, the break itself is fairly consistent, but when there’s no swell, even the most consistent spots go quiet. It’s just the way it is sometimes. The winds, though, they’re not all bad. We’ll see some clean, glassy moments on Monday afternoon, August 31, with light winds and glassy conditions, and even a few early morning offshore breezes here and there. But without any swell, that’s just a pretty lake.

Because there’s literally no wave energy coming in (combined energy of all swells directed here is 0 for the whole period), there’s nothing to recommend. If you’re a kiter, the strong winds on Sunday August 30 with 19 mph offshore breezes might make you smile, but for a surfer, it’s a no-go.

So, plain and simple: don’t bother checking the cams for the next two weeks. This area is going through a dry spell. It won’t last forever – forecasts can change – but right now, you’re better off finding something else to do.

Rusty.
