The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. I'm looking at the next 16 days for Praia do Meio and, well, it's a tough one to get excited about. The overall pattern is a whole lot of not much happening. We've got a long stretch of poor surf conditions with choppy, bumpy water and not a single window that looks like a proper paddle. The wind is persistently cross-onshore or cross-shore, and the swell is just not delivering.

Right from the start on Monday the 31st of August, we've got a 5ft swell from the ESE, but the cross-on wind at 20 km/h is killing it. The combined energy of all swells is moderate at 308, but it's just messy. This pattern just keeps repeating. Tuesday the 1st of September, Wednesday the 2nd, all the way through the first week, it's the same story. We get a bit of a pulse on Wednesday afternoon the 3rd of September, with a 5ft swell from the E and a combined energy of 543, which is the strongest of the whole period, but again, the wind is cross-onshore and it's described as "poor surf conditions." So that's a no-go.

The water temperature is 80°, which is about 1° above the long-term average for this time of year, so nothing wild there.

Honestly, there's not a single standout day in this entire 16-day forecast. The best we can say is that on the 9th of September, we see a couple of sessions with an offshore wind (ESE) and a 3ft swell, but the energy is still weak (98 and 101), and the wave state is listed as "unknown." It's a gamble. For the rest of it, from the 10th of September through to the 15th of September, it's more of the same: choppy, cross-onshore winds and poor surf. The swell directions are all over the place, from ESE to S to SE, but the wind never lets up.

In short, there are no good surf options on offer in this 16-day window. Given the break is a river mouth and fairly consistent, it's a bit of a surprise to see such a blank run, but it happens. You're better off waiting for the next forecast update. The conditions are just too hostile for a decent session.

Rusty.
