The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be honest with ya – Praia do Meio is lookin' like a tough stretch over the next couple of weeks. There ain't a single standout session in the whole 16-day window, and the first solid recommendation never shows up. We're lookin' at a complete blank run until the very end.

Water temp is sittin' around 80°, which is pretty much average for the time of year, so at least it ain't freezing.

From Monday the 7th all the way through to the 17th, it's a real grind. You got small, weak swell – mostly 1 ft to 5 ft from the ESE – but the wind is a constant headache. It's cross-on or onshore from the east or southeast, blowin' 9 to 16 mph, just choppin' everything up. The wave energy is mostly weak to moderate, with the highest early reading being 386 on the 10th, but it's useless when it's that messy. The word on the street is "poor surf conditions." Honestly, with that wind and chop on a beach-and-river mouth setup, this looks way more interesting for a kite surfer than someone on a paddle board.

Then into the second week, from the 15th onward, the swell direction swings to the south and SSE, and the period jumps up – we're talkin' 13 to 17 seconds on the 15th and 16th. That's proper long-period groundswell energy, with the combined energy reading hitting 743 on the 16th, but it's still got cross-onshore winds messin' it up. That long-period swell from the SSE is gonna break pretty straight on a beach setup like this, and with that wind, it just won't line up.

Finally, on Friday the 18th, we get a little flicker. The afternoon shows a 5 ft swell from the SE with a 14-second period and a combined energy of 1180 – that's strong energy, no doubt. But the wind is still a cross-on 16 mph from the ESE. The word on it is only "marginal surf forecast." It's the best it gets, but it's still not good enough to call a standout. After that, it drops back into the same old poor conditions through to the 22nd.

So, the straight talk? There are no good surf options here for the next 16 days. It's a long, frustrating gap. If you absolutely gotta get wet, keep an eye on Friday the 18th afternoon – there's some real energy in the water, but the wind needs to do a complete 180 for it to be any good. Otherwise, save your wax. Forecasts can change, but right now, it's a flat, blown-out mess.

Rusty.
