The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s happening on the water at Portixeddu for the next couple of weeks.
I’m not gonna sugarcoat it – this is a quiet stretch. From Wednesday, August 5th, all the way through the second week, the surf is tiny and the wind is often on it. The wave energy is mostly in the low double digits or even single digits, and the forecast keeps calling it “poor surf conditions.” There’s a long gap of days with no real surf on offer.
The first real chance to paddle out comes on the morning of August 16th. Swell from the NW pushes to 3ft, with a period of 8 seconds. The wind is a light cross-shore from the north at 6 mph, which is okay. The combined energy hits 108 (moderate). It’s the best we’ve got.
Then Monday the 17th, the morning session sees a 3ft NW swell, period 7 seconds, but with a 12 mph cross-onshore wind out of the NW. That’ll be choppy, but the energy is 100. By Tuesday the 18th, the morning cleans up nicely with a cross-off NNE wind at 6 mph, a 2ft NW swell, and the energy dropping to 36. It’s small, but it’ll be clean.
Wednesday the 19th, the morning is glassy with a light cross-off NNE breeze at 3 mph, and a tiny 1ft NW swell. The energy is just 6. It’s a longboard or foamie morning.
The water is running at 82°, which is 5° warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s really unusual, so you’ll be in shorts and a rash guard.
If you’re looking for the standout, it’s the morning of August 16th. The energy is the highest of the whole run, and the light cross-shore wind is the best wind state we see. It’s not a big day, but it’s the only window that offers a real chance at a few clean, rideable waves. The other decent option is the morning of the 18th for a cleaner, smaller wave session.
Circle the 16th. Everything else is a tough sell. The forecast can change, but right now, this is a lean run.
Rusty.
