Pontal do Coruripe Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a proper look at what’s heading our way.

First up, we’re looking at Pontal do Coruripe down there on the river. The water’s sitting about average for this time of year, nothing wild happening there. The pattern for the next couple of weeks is a bit of a slow burn, to be honest. We’ve got a few days of iffy conditions before the real energy starts to show, but it’s going to take a bit of patience.

The first surf worth paddling for is on Saturday 9th August… actually, let’s be real, the first few days are a total write-off. Saturday morning the 8th has a tiny 2ft SSE swell but the wind is messy cross and the energy is weak (339). Saturday afternoon gets bumped to 4ft but the wind swings cross-on and choppy, and the period drops to a short 7 seconds. That’s a no-go. Sunday the 9th through to Tuesday the 12th all show the same story: onshore or cross-onshore winds with poor conditions, and the wave comment is consistently “poor.” The swell height sits around 4ft to 5ft, but the wind just ruins it.

Now, the real sneak peek comes on Wednesday 13th August. The afternoon brings a 3ft S swell, but check that period – 13 seconds! That’s proper groundswell energy. The combined energy is a solid 565, which is moderate but holding. The wind is a gentle onshore, which isn’t ideal, but it’s a lot better than the choppy mess earlier. This is worth a look if you’re desperate, but it’s still a marginal call.

Thursday 14th August morning gives us a better chance. We’ve got 4ft from the S with a 13-second period, and the wind is a gentle cross-onshore. The energy is climbing to 704. That’s the best-looking window so far, but it’s still not a standout. The afternoon goes back to poor.

Then, Friday 15th August morning is where it gets interesting. The swell drops to 3ft, but the period stretches to 15 seconds – very long-period groundswell. The energy is now 856. The wind is light cross-shore, almost glassy. That’s the cleanest window in the whole outlook. For a river break like Pontal do Coruripe, that long period will draw the lines out nicely, but it’s better suited for a point or reef. Still, with light wind, this is the pick of the bunch. The afternoon goes cross-on again and choppy.

Saturday 16th August morning keeps the hope alive. 4ft from the S, 14-second period, energy at 964, and a light cross-shore breeze. That’s a second strong option. The waves will have plenty of push, but at 4ft, it’s manageable for most. The afternoon looks choppy again.

The rest of the window from Sunday 17th August onwards is a bit of a letdown. Swell drops to 3ft and below, periods shorten, and the wind stays mostly cross-on to onshore. The energy falls back to 250-400 range. There’s nothing really screaming “go” after that first weekend.

The Standout: If I had to pick one, it’s the Friday 15th August morning session. That 3ft S swell with a 15-second period and light cross-shore wind is the best combo of clean conditions and real energy. It’s a bit of a long-range call, so don’t bet the house on it, but it’s the one to circle.

The Runner-Up: The Saturday 16th August morning is a close second. Slightly bigger at 4ft, still a long period, and the same light wind.

Honestly, there’s a lot of onshore junk in between. The first week is mostly a washout, but that second week has a couple of windows that could be worth a paddle if you’re keen. Stay patient.
