The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s be real—this 16-day forecast is a tough one. We’re looking at a long dry spell with no real surf. The first tiny bump doesn’t show up until Tuesday morning, August 11th, and even then it’s barely a ripple.

From now through Monday the 10th, it’s flat. Zero. The combined swell energy is dead at 0. That’s a solid 4-day gap with nothing to ride.

The only break on the menu is Ponta do Farol. It’s a beginner-plus spot, and it’s fairly consistent when there’s swell, but it’s exposed to the north. The problem is the swell is tiny and weak. On Tuesday morning the 11th, we might see a dribble of 0.7 ft from the NNE with a short period of 8 seconds, and combined energy at just 7—that’s weak. The wind is a cross-offshore from the ENE at 12 mph, which is clean, but there’s almost no energy to work with. The water is 83°, which feels a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.

Tuesday afternoon stays small with 0.7 ft and a light cross-shore breeze from the NE at 9 mph. The rest of the week is more of the same: tiny 0.3 ft to 0.7 ft bumps, short periods, and combined energy never climbing above 7. Saturday morning the 15th has a long-period pulse from the north at 14 seconds, but it’s only 0.3 ft—that’s a tease, not a wave. The combined energy is a measly 4.

From the 16th of August onward, it’s completely flat again with zero energy for the rest of the window. If you’re a kitesurfer, the clean cross-off winds and flat water might be interesting, but for a paddle surfer, this is a blank run. It’s a quiet period for the area, and sadly, there’s no standout session to point to.

Rusty.
