Table - best surf conditions forecast for Ponta Negra over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s talk surf. Ponta Negra is the only game in town for this 16-day stretch, and I’ll level with you – it’s a rough outlook. The water is a warm 81°, which is pretty much normal for the season, so you’re good on that front.
The first surfable day pops up on Wednesday, July 8th, and from there it’s a long, frustrating haul. The wind is hammering from the southeast, blowing cross-on shore almost every session. That’s gonna leave the surface choppy and messy. The swell is coming from the east-southeast, but the period is short, mostly 6 to 7 seconds, giving you weak, jumbled waves. The combined energy is moderate, hitting values like 133 (Wednesday afternoon) and climbing to 229 by Friday afternoon, but it’s all wasted on that constant wind.
There’s a glimmer on Sunday, July 12th morning, when the wind swings onshore direct from the east-southeast, and the swell hits 1.5m. The combined energy jumps to 338, but the wave comment is still “poor surf conditions.” It just won’t clean up. The wind stays stubbornly cross-on or onshore for the entire first week, with only a few moments of “gentle breeze” that might make it a little less choppy, but nothing you’d call clean.
Heading into the second week, the size picks up. From Monday, July 20th, the swell is consistently over 1.5m, and by Tuesday, July 21st morning it’s 2.0m with a combined energy of 530. That’s expert territory. But the wind – still cross-on from the southeast at 16 mph. The period finally stretches to 8 seconds, a slight improvement, but it’s not enough to overcome the chop. No water temperature anomaly data to report.
Truth is, mate, there’s no standout session in this whole 16-day window. Every single entry is rated a zero. This setup is more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddler. The wind is consistent, the swell is there, but the quality is a no-show. Ponta Negra is a consistent break, so it’s a real bummer to see it like this. There’s a gap of several days at the start with no recommendation, and then it’s just a straight run of average to poor conditions.
Hang in there. Forecasts can change, and this spot usually bounces back.
