The Lowdown
Alright, let me tell you what I'm seeing for Playa de Montalbo over the next couple of weeks. Gotta be straight with you, it's a bit of a slow period.
Truth is, for the first six days, from Thursday the 6th of August through to Tuesday the 11th of August, there's just nothing doing. The surf is tiny – think 1 to 3 feet – and the wave energy is weak, barely cracking 69. The conditions are a mess of light cross-onshore breezes or glassy, but there's just no push to the swell. It's a total flat spell, so you can leave the board in the shed.
We finally get a little pulse of life on Wednesday the 12th of August. The morning looks best. You’ve got a clean 3 feet swell from the west, with a light cross-offshore breeze from the NNW. The wave energy bumps up to a moderate 160, and with a period of 9 seconds, it’s a short period swell, so the waves will be a bit soft and crumbly, but it's rideable. The water is a touch warmer than normal at 68°.
Thursday the 13th of August morning is also a decent shout. It’s glassy, clean, with a 4 feet west swell – the biggest of the whole run – and a period of 10 seconds. The energy is up to 220. That’s the pick of the fortnight, but it’s still just ordinary conditions. Don't expect anything epic.
After that, it’s back to the waiting game. The rest of the second week sees the swell dropping back to 2 to 3 feet, with a lot of moderate to fresh cross-shore winds kicking up chop. There’s a morning on Monday the 17th of August that’s clean with a 3 feet swell and 173 energy, but it's nothing to write home about.
Overall, the best you’re going to get is a couple of mornings with clean, surfable waist-high waves, mainly on the 12th and 13th. It’s not a time for charging, just a chance to get wet.
