The Lowdown
Alright, let’s talk Pantin.
The first few days are a write-off. Saturday the 22nd is junky small surf and the water is a frigid 15° – that’s way colder than normal for this time of year. You’ll need a hooded 5/4.
Sunday the 23rd morning shows up with 3ft of WSW swell, a 10-second period, and offshore SE wind at only 3 mph. Clean lines. Combined energy is 310 (moderate). It’s a decent session for intermediate surfers. Expect some company.
Monday the 24th slides back into weak soup. Then Tuesday the 25th and Wednesday the 26th morning are mostly poor and messy – you’re better off staying home.
Wednesday the 26th morning brings a 5ft swell from the SW, period 7 seconds, combined energy 214. Winds are cross-off and light. It’s surfable but ordinary.
Now the standout: Friday the 28th morning. A legit 12ft swell from the WNW with a 10-second period, energy of 2133 (very strong). Cross-off wind from the SSW at 9 mph – clean but huge. That’s for experts only. Too big for beginners.
Saturday the 29th morning is the perfect follow-up: 6ft from the NNW, 10 seconds, combined energy 1057 (strong), clean cross-off winds. That’s the balanced big-wave day for stronger intermediates and above.
Glassy 5ft waves on Monday the 31st, but then there’s a lull up to Tuesday the 1st of September.
Looking ahead: Wednesday the 2nd of September morning – 8ft from the WNW at 10 seconds, energy 959 (strong), clean with light ENE cross-off wind at 6 mph. That’s a fun, powerful session for intermediate-to-advanced. Crowds are possible.
Thursday the 3rd morning holds 8ft from the NW at a 12-second period – a long-period groundswell – with strong energy of 2387. The wind is cross-off from the SW. Clean, heavy, and for experienced surfers only. The long period means more push and longer lulls.
After that, it’s all big size but onshore or cross-on winds – good for kites, not so much for a clean paddle session. Friday the 4th and Saturday the 5th are blown out.
Best bets: Friday 28th morning for the hard chargers, and Wednesday 2nd September morning for a strong, clean all-round session.
Rusty.
