Table - best surf conditions forecast for Pantin over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get stuck into what’s on the table for the next couple of weeks. To be straight with you, it’s a tough run. The finder is showing a real bleak stretch of small, weak surf and mostly messy wind, so don’t get your hopes up for anything epic. For the first week and a half, we’re looking at tiny, short-period bump that’s going to be a real struggle to enjoy. There’s a significant gap of poor conditions until the third week, where things finally get a bit more interesting, but there’s a big caveat on that.
The only true standout in this entire 16-day window is a spike of much bigger energy right around Monday the 20th of July into Tuesday the 21st. We’ll get to that.
Let’s start with the here and now. Pantin (A Coruña) is our only break, and for the first week, it’s a real bummer. The water is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, sitting at 61°, so a wetsuit is a must. The first real surf recommendation is for Saturday morning, the 11th. The swell is tiny, just 2 ft from the NW with a weak 10-second period. The combined energy is a poor 128, so it’s barely moving. The wind is a cross-off, which is the only thing going for it, making it clean. But honestly, it’s a struggle for a longboard on a day like this.
Sunday the 12th through the rest of that week is a write-off. The wind is all over the shop – cross, onshore, messy – and the swell never gets above 3 ft. The period is short, around 8 seconds, so the waves are just fat and crumbly. The scores are all zeros on the guidance, and the comments are all “poor surf conditions”. It’s a grim run.
Now, for the good stuff. The saving grace is a pulse of much bigger swell arriving around Monday the 20th of July. The morning shows a 6 ft swell from the NNE with a 7-second period. The combined energy jumps to a solid 343, so there’s proper power in the water. The wind is a clean cross-off, so the face should be nice and glassy. This is a heavy, powerful wave for intermediate surfers, but at 6 ft, beginners might find it a bit too much.
The afternoon of Monday the 20th gets even bigger, hitting 7 ft from the NNE with a 6-second period and a combined energy of 440. That’s a lot of water moving. The wind picks up to a fresh cross-shore, which will make it lumpy and challenging. This is definitely expert territory, and the crowds are likely to be heavy at Pantin on a day like this. The short period (6 seconds) means it will be a bit walled-up and punchy, not a classic long-lining groundswell.
Tuesday the 21st keeps the size going, with another 7 ft morning and 7 ft afternoon, both with strong energy (346 and 477). The wind is a fresh cross-off for the morning, which is a good sign, but it gets messy again in the afternoon with a 35 km/h cross-shore. This is a two-day window of proper, heavy, demanding surf. It’s the only time in the whole outlook worth considering, but it’s a serious one. For the rest of the run, from the 22nd onward, it fades back to small, weak, and onshore slop, with the swell dropping to 5 ft then 3 ft with onshore wind.
So, the bottom line: a long, dry, frustrating first week and a half. Then, a brief, heavy, expert-only window mid-week. It’s not a beginner’s forecast, and it’s not a longboarder’s forecast. It’s a short, sharp hit for the crew who are ready for it.
Rusty.
