The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's get into it.
Alright, things are looking a bit slow out of the gate for Pantin. The surf's been pretty flat and messy, so we're looking at a few days of nothing really worth paddling out for. The water is a bit colder than usual for this time of year, sitting at 61°F, so you might want a spring suit if you're heading out.
We start seeing some life on Monday, July 20th. The morning shows a 6ft swell from the NE, with an 8-second period. The combined energy is moderate (478), and with a cross-offshore wind, it'll be clean. It's still a bit of a gamble with the tide, but it's the first real sign of something rideable. The afternoon jumps up to 7ft NE, but the wind picks up to 25 mph, making it a bit of a battle.
The real standout for this whole forecast is Wednesday morning, July 22nd. Get up early. We've got a clean 5ft NNE swell, light winds from the ENE at only 6 mph, and the combined energy is a solid 240. The conditions are expected to be good. It's your best chance for some fun, clean waves without a fight. The wind is light and cross-off, so it'll be smooth.
After that, the surf drops off again towards the end of the week. We get a small pulse of long-period groundswell on the morning of Sunday, July 26th. A 1ft swell from the NNW with a 12-second period carries a surprising amount of energy (115) for its size, so it might produce some long, drawn-out lines, but it's going to be hard to find a decent wave.
Looking further out, the first weekend of August shows some bigger swell. Saturday, August 1st, the morning brings a 7ft NE swell, but it's onshore and choppy. The afternoon shows a 8ft NE swell with onshore winds, so it's not going to be clean. For the experts, Sunday, August 2nd, has a 7ft NE swell in the morning with light cross-shore winds, but it's still pretty marginal.
Overall, the best bet is Wednesday morning, July 22nd. That's your window for quality. The rest is either too small, too windy, or just messy.
Rusty.
