The Lowdown
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s look at what’s on the cards for Pantin. Over the next 16 days it’s mostly a write-off with strong winds and messy seas. The water temperature is 60°F, which is a full 6°F colder than normal for this time of year—proper unusual, so don’t forget the thick rubber.
The first real chance of a surf comes on Sunday the 23rd in the morning. There’s a tiny 3ft swell from the WSW with a 10-second period and combined energy of 259 (moderate). The wind is a light Slight air from the SSE, making it cross-offshore and clean. It’s small, but it’s the cleanest we’ll see. That’s your best early window—small, tidy, and no crowds.
After that, it gets flat and windy for days. By the 26th and 27th of August, the swell builds to 6ft then 8ft from the WNW, with periods around 9 seconds and combined energy jumping to 562 then 1151 (strong). But the wind is a mess—fresh cross-onshore and cross-shore with lumpy chop. Not surfable; this setup looks better for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Into early September, the wind stays strong and mostly cross or cross-onshore. There’s a morning on September 1st with a 5ft swell from the west, 8-second period, and a light breeze, but it’s only marginal.
The standout is Sunday the 23rd morning. 3ft from the WSW, 10-second period, glassy clean with a slight offshore breeze. It’s small, but it’s the only time the wind behaves. Don’t hold your breath for much else.
Rusty.
