The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a good, long look at what’s on offer for Pantin over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, the first few days are a bit of a write-off. We’ve got some tiny, messy waves coming in on Monday the 24th, with a 2ft swell from the WSW. The morning is glassy though, so if you’re desperate for a paddle, you might get a few knee-high sliders. But honestly, there’s next to no energy, and it’s not worth getting excited about.
Tuesday the 25th through to the end of the month are looking pretty grim. The wind is a major problem, swinging onshore and blowing hard, turning most of the week into a choppy, blown-out mess. There’s a bit more size on Wednesday the 26th afternoon, with a 6ft swell, but the wind is howling at 22 mph and it’s lumpy as hell. Not for the surfboard. If you’ve got a kite, you might be looking at that sideways.
The first week of September doesn’t offer much reprieve either. The wind stays mostly cross or onshore, and the swell is weak or poorly directed. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so don’t expect any surprises there.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. The standout window is Monday the 7th of September. This is the one to circle on your calendar. Monday morning shapes up to be a real treat. The swell is a clean 3ft from the NNW, but the real story is the wind. It’s a light offshore breeze from the SE, barely a breath, making for glassy conditions. The energy is solid, and the period is a nice long 11 seconds, which will push through with some real shape. It’s not massive, but it’ll be clean, lined up, and a joy to surf. Monday afternoon sees a weird spike in the period to 21 seconds, but the wind switches onshore, making it tricky.
Then, Tuesday the 8th of September morning rolls in with a massive 12ft swell from the WNW. The energy is off the charts. This is for experts only. The wind is a cross-shore, so it won’t be perfect, but that’s a serious amount of water moving. If you’re not comfortable in heavy, powerful surf, give this one a wide berth. It’s too big for this set-up.
So, to wrap it up: the next week and a half is mostly a washout. The real highlight is Monday morning the 7th of September, with that clean, offshore, glassy surf. It’s the only true gem in the outlook. The big swell on the 8th is for the brave and the experienced.
Rusty.
