The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s check out the surf ahead for Pantin over the next couple of weeks. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, but there’s a couple of windows that are worth getting excited about.
Right now, the surf is pretty ordinary. Sunday the 19th is small and messy with a 4ft NNE windswell, short 5-second period, and a cross-shore wind making it lumpy. The energy is weak (95). Not worth paddling out.
Monday the 20th sees a jump in size, but the wind is a problem. Morning has 6ft NNE swell with a 7-second period and moderate cross-offshore wind, so it’s clean but the wave comment says “marginal.” The combined energy picks up to 433 (moderate). By afternoon, the wind cranks to 25 mph from the NE and it’s messy again.
Tuesday the 21st is similar – morning sees 6ft NE swell, clean with a cross-off breeze, but the period is still short at 7 seconds. Energy is 319. Marginal. Afternoon gets blown out.
Wednesday the 22nd is the first real standout. Morning has 5ft NE swell, 7-second period, with a light 6 mph ENE breeze that’s cross-offshore. It’s clean, the energy is 308 (moderate), and the wave comment says “expect good surf conditions.” That’s your best bet for the first week. The break is consistent, and with such light wind, it’ll be glassy. Crowds are often here, so get in early. The water temp is about average for the time of year.
After that, the surf drops off fast. Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th are small and weak, with poor conditions. Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th are tiny – barely 1ft with long-period (13 seconds) but no energy (23–97). Not worth a look.
There’s a long gap of quiet days from the 25th to the 27th. Then a bit of a pulse arrives on Tuesday the 28th with 5ft NW swell, 8-second period, but the wind is strong and conditions are poor. The energy is 316 (moderate) but it’s messy.
Wednesday the 29th and Thursday the 30th see 5–5ft NW swell, 10-second period, with fresh ENE cross-offshore winds. Clean, but the wave comment says “poor” or “marginal.” Energy is moderate (478–443). Not great.
Friday the 31st has 4–6ft NW swell, 9–10-second period, but winds are strong. Saturday the 1st of August picks up a bit – 7ft NW swell, 10-second period, with fresh cross-offshore winds. Clean, energy is strong (788–724), but still only “marginal.” This one is more promising for the long-range, but it’s less certain.
Then on Sunday the 2nd it drops again, but Monday the 3rd of August morning looks good: 5ft NW swell, 9-second period, with a gentle 9 mph E breeze that’s cross-offshore. Clean, and the wave comment says “expect good surf conditions.” Energy is moderate (351). Another standout to keep an eye on.
All in all, the best windows are Wednesday the 22nd and possibly Monday the 3rd of August. The rest is either too small, too windy, or just marginal. For a spot that’s exposed and consistent, it’s a bit of a waiting game, but those two mornings should deliver.
Rusty.
