Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down what Pantin is looking like for the next couple weeks.
Honestly, it’s a rough start. The first decent surf isn’t until Thursday, July 9th – that’s nearly a full week of nada. Before that, it’s all flat, small, and choppy. Not worth pulling on the wetsuit for.
Thursday morning the 9th is the one bright spot. We’ve got a 3ft swell from the WNW, and the wind goes glassy – dead calm, just a slight air. The combined wave energy is moderate at 106. It’s a short-period windswell (9 seconds), but when it’s glassy like that, you can still have fun on a longboard or a fish. Water temp is 62°F, which is dead normal for this time of year, so a spring suit will do.
After that, it’s back to average. Friday and Saturday see a little more size – up to 3ft – but the wind swings onshore or cross, and the quality drops. Not terrible, but not a standout.
Then we get a pulse of bigger swell around Sunday July 12th – up to 6ft out of the NNW, with a combined energy reading of 775 – that’s strong. But the wind is a fresh cross-shore at 19 mph, and the period is only 8 seconds. That’s going to be lumpy, messy, and closed out at an exposed beach like Pantin. Honestly, that’s more of a kite-surfing day than a paddle-surfing day. Anything over 5ft with cross-wind at a beach break is expert-only, and if it gets over 8ft, it’s just raw power.
The second week is mostly a bust. Small, weak swell, strong winds (22-25 mph), and poor surf. There are a few clean-wind moments but the swell is tiny – 2ft to 4ft with very short periods. Not much to write home about.
Best call: Thursday morning, July 9th, for a glassy, small-wave session. The rest of the 16 days is mostly flat or messy. We’re in a dead patch, but it won’t last forever.
Rusty.
