Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what we’ve got for Pantin over the next couple of weeks. Honestly mate, it’s a bit of a rough stretch for paddle surfing. There are some bigger pulses of energy late in the run, but the wind is going to be the main issue for most of it, making clean conditions pretty scarce. The water temp is around 65°F, which is about normal for this time of year.
We start off with a gap of a few days. The first recommendation doesn’t come until Monday, July 6th. The lead-in is pretty grim, with Thursday the 2nd through Sunday the 5th offering nothing but poor surf conditions. The wind is howling from the NE at 25 to 31 mph, creating messy, cross-shore chop even though there’s a bit of swell around. It’s more of a kite-surfing setup right now.
Monday the 6th finally gives us a tiny window. In the morning we get a glassy surface – offshore from the NW at just 3 mph. The swell is small though, only 2 ft from the WNW with a long 10-second period. The combined energy is moderate at 121, so the waves will be weak. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. The wind stays light through Tuesday the 7th morning, with another glassy session on 1 ft waves, but the energy is low at 47. Not worth paddling out for much.
Wednesday the 8th morning is glassy again, with a small 3 ft NNE swell at a short 6-second period. The energy is moderate (111), but the period is too short for any real power. By the afternoon the wind picks up and it’s back to messy cross-shore conditions.
Things get a bit more interesting around Saturday, July 11th. The early morning shows a 3 ft swell from the NW with a sweet 11-second period, and the combined energy jumps to a strong 512. The wind is a light cross-onshore from the NNW, so the surface will have some bumps, but not terrible. This is a promising but less certain long-range standout. The afternoon, however, gets messy with a 7 ft NNE swell and poor winds. That bigger swell is in the expert-only range, but the wind ruins it.
The rest of the second week is a write-off for clean conditions. From Sunday the 12th through to Friday the 17th, the wind is mostly cross or cross-onshore from the NE or NNE, with moderate to fresh breezes. The swell sticks around at around 3 ft to 6 ft, but it’s short period and choppy. Even the glassy mornings are gone. It stays poor. There is a 1 ft WNW groundswell on Friday the 17th afternoon with a very long 12-second period, but the cross-onshore wind kills it.
So to wrap it up: the only real standout is the early session on Saturday the 11th morning, with that long-period NW groundswell. For a point break like Pantin, that 11-second period is good news. The rest of the forecast is a waiting game. It tends not to stay this poor for long, so keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
