Table - best surf conditions forecast for Playa de Traba over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what we've got on the table for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be honest with you – it's gonna be a tough stretch for a while. We’ve got a real dry spell on our hands. The first surf that’s even worth mentioning around here doesn't show up until Tuesday the 14th, and even then it’s pretty average. The pattern for the first week is just small, weak swell with rubbish wind.
For the first few days, it’s a no-go. Monday the 13th is flat and messy. Tuesday the 14th offers the first real chance to get wet, but it's nothing to write home about. We've got a tiny 2.6 ft swell from the NNE with a short 9-second period at Playa de Traba, and the combined energy is only a moderate 148. But the wind is glassy in the morning – and that's a major positive, with clean conditions on the cards. It's surfable, but very ordinary. The water is sitting at 62.8°, which is about 1.6° cooler than normal for this time of year, so pretty average.
Wednesday the 15th morning is a similar story: a weak 1.6 ft swell from the W (87 combined energy) with a light cross-off breeze. It's clean, but it’s barely a ripple.
Then we hit a proper lull. From Thursday the 16th right through to Sunday the 19th, it’s essentially flat or blown-out junk. The swell is tiny, periods are short, and the wind is mostly cross or onshore. Don't bother.
We finally get a pulse of energy on Monday the 20th morning. The swell bumps up to 4.6 ft from the NNE with a 7-second period and a solid 193 combined energy. The wind is glassy – a total standout condition. It’s still a short-period swell, so the shape won't be perfect, but with that clean surface, it's the best we've seen in a week. This is the one to aim for if you're desperate for a paddle.
Tuesday the 21st sees the swell jump a bit more to 6.2 ft from the NE, with combined energy hitting a strong 505. However, the wind is cross-shore in the morning and onshore in the afternoon, so it won't be as clean as Monday. It's marginal.
Things go downhill again through the rest of the week, with small, onshore slop.
Looking further out to the second week, there's a real standout potential, but it comes with a huge caveat. On Tuesday the 28th of July, we see a big pulse of swell. Afternoon sees a 9.8 ft swell from the NW with a very long 12-second period – that's proper groundswell. The combined energy is a massive 2269. Now, here’s the thing: the finder says the swell is predicted to be too big for this break. At that size with a long period, Playa de Traba could be firing for experts only, but the wind is a moderate cross-onshore making it choppy, so it’s a tricky one. If you're an experienced local and the banks are right, it could be a beast, but it’s not for the faint-hearted.
Stay safe out there.
