Table - best surf conditions forecast for Playa de Traba over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin' for Playa de Traba over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it’s a pretty grim outlook for the next ten days or so. We’re looking at a long, slow stretch of tiny, weak windswell with poor conditions. The water temp is sitting about average for the time of year, so at least you won’t freeze if you’re just floating around.
The first solid sign of life doesn’t show up until Monday, July 20th, and even then it's a bit of a mixed bag. Monday morning brings a small bump – 4 ft from the NNE, but it’s a short period of 5 seconds and the cross-shore wind is making a mess of it. The combined energy is still weak (75). Monday afternoon actually picks up some size to 5 ft from the NNE, with the energy jumping to 171, but it’s a cross-onshore breeze and still a short period, so expect choppy, lumpy conditions.
Tuesday, July 21st, looks a bit better. Morning sees 5 ft from the NNE, but with a light cross-onshore breeze, it might be rideable. The real standout, and the only one I’d get a little excited about, is Tuesday afternoon: 6 ft from the NE, period of 6 seconds, and the wind shifts to a gentle cross-shore. The combined energy hits 302 – that’s moderate, solid wave energy. It’s still a short-period windswell, so it’ll be a bit jumbled, but for Playa de Traba, this is the best offer on the table. The size is pushing into intermediate territory, but not quite expert-only.
By Wednesday, July 22nd, the swell is up to 7 ft and 7 ft from the NNE with onshore winds straight from the WNW and NW. That’s a messy, blown-out 6ft+ wave – that’s only for the hardcore crew with big boards and no fear. The energy is strong at 346 and 468, but the quality will be poor.
Looking further out, Thursday, July 23rd, the swell drops to 5 ft – 5 ft but still onshore winds. It’s listed as “marginal” at best. Basically, the whole second week is a washout unless you’re a kite surfer; those strong onshore winds and building swell from the 20th to the 22nd would be far more interesting for a kite than a paddle. The rest of the month is small, weak, and choppy.
So, to sum it up: if you’re desperate, target Tuesday afternoon, July 21st, for the most size and cleanest window. Otherwise, this stretch is a write-off. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
