Playa de Caion Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for Playa de Caion over the next couple of weeks.

Straight up, the first few days are a bit of a dud. We’ve got a run of poor surf and ordinary conditions from Thursday the 6th right through to the end of Sunday the 9th. The best you’ll see in that stretch is tiny, weak waves under 2ft, with only a brief glassy moment on Sunday morning that *might* give you a knee-high slide, but it’s nothing to write home about. The swell energy is low, barely cracking 100 (121 on Sunday morning), and the winds are mostly cross or cross-on, so it’s choppy and messy.

Monday the 10th and Tuesday the 11th are still very average. You’ve got glassy mornings, with waves around 2ft to 3ft coming from the NNW. The energy is moderate (162 on Tuesday morning), but the swell is short period at 10 seconds, so the waves are weak and a bit mushy. Not a standout, but if you’re desperate for a small clean wave, the early sessions might give you something.

Now, here’s the one that catches my eye: Wednesday 12th August morning. This is the best of the first week. The swell bumps up to 3ft from the west, with a solid moderate energy reading of 205. The wind is glassy – dead calm – so it’s going to be clean. The period is 9 seconds, which is fine for a beach break like Playa de Caion. This is the session to aim for if you want a proper surf. Expect fun, clean waves.

After that, we hit another quiet spell from Thursday the 13th through to Sunday the 16th. Swell drops back to 2ft to 3ft, wind is mostly cross or cross-on, and the energy is low. Not much to get excited about.

Then, on Monday 17th August, we see a big spike in swell: 7ft to 7ft from the WNW/NW. That’s a solid amount of energy (787-828). But the wind is cross-on and choppy, and the period is short at 10 seconds, so it’s going to be a messy, bumpy mess. For a beach break, this is more of a blown-out washing machine. Not recommended for paddling.

The real hidden gem of this whole forecast window appears on Tuesday 18th August morning. The swell is a very solid 5ft from the northwest, with moderate energy (437). The wind is glassy – again, dead calm. The period is only 8 seconds, so it’s a windswell, but with clean, glassy conditions and that size, you’re going to get some fun, punchy waves on the bank. This is the standout for the second week, and the only morning in the whole period that really delivers. It’s a bit of a wait, but it’s worth keeping an eye on.

The rest of the second week fades back into smaller, wind-affected junk. Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th are mostly cross-shore and choppy, with waves dropping back under 4ft.

So, to sum it up: the best bet for a proper surf is Wednesday 12th August morning – glassy, 3ft, clean. For the bigger stuff, Tuesday 18th August morning is the one to circle on the calendar – 5ft, glassy, and punchy. Don’t bother with the rest unless you’re just floating around.
