The Lowdown

Alright, mates, Rusty here with a look at the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a bit of a mixed bag coming our way, but there are a few windows where it’ll be worth paddling out.

The main story is a decent pulse of swell arriving for the weekend, but the winds are going to be the real decider. The water temp is sitting right around average for the time of year, so no need to dig out the thickest wetsuit just yet.

Let’s kick off with Friday morning, the 4th. Playa Rapadoira’s got tiny 2ft swell from the NW, period a short 9 seconds, and the energy’s weak at just 67. But the wind is glassy, dead calm from the N, so it’s clean as a whistle. A fun little grovel for a longboard or a fish, but don’t expect much push.

Saturday the 5th is where things get interesting. Overnight, a new swell builds in. By Saturday morning, we’re looking at a solid 4ft from the NNW with a long-period 14 seconds. The combined energy jumps right up to 658, that’s a moderate, punchy groundswell. Wind is light and cross-onshore from the E, which chops it up a bit, but the power is there. By Saturday afternoon, it’s up to 5ft from the NNW, period 13 seconds, and energy of 839. The wind shifts onshore from the NE, so it won't be the cleanest, but that’s a lot of water moving. This is the best size of the whole stretch, but you’ll be fighting a bit of breeze. If you can handle some texture, this is your best bet for a proper wave.

Sunday the 6th morning, the swell drops back to a clean 4ft from the NW, 11-second period, and the wind goes glassy again from the WSW. Energy hits 285, which is moderate. This is a really good-looking session: clean, glassy conditions on a solid waist-to-chest high swell. That Sunday morning window is a standout.

Monday the 7th morning looks similar: 4ft from the NW, 13-second period, glassy NNW breeze, energy at 402. Another clean, fun morning.

After that, it gets a bit ragged. Tuesday the 8th through the rest of the week sees the swell hanging around 3ft to 4ft, but the wind turns mostly onshore or cross-onshore from the ENE and NE, messing up the surface. There’s a morning on Wednesday the 10th that looks tidy – light offshore from the SSW, 4ft NNW swell, clean conditions – but the juice is lower than the weekend.

The second week fades out. From the 11th onward, the swell drops back under 3ft most days, with a few brief glassy mornings on the 12th, 17th, 18th, and 19th. These are tiny, weak swells, only good for a longboard in the glass. Honestly, if you want any real power, you’ve got to make the most of this coming weekend and the Monday after.

The standout is clear: Sunday morning, 6th September, with 4ft of clean NW groundswell and glassy conditions. That’s the session to circle. Saturday the 5th afternoon has the most size, if you don’t mind a bumpy surface.

Stay stoked, and I’ll see you in the water.
-Rusty
