The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Morro do Maluf.

Alright, so things are looking a bit flat and ordinary for the next few days. We’ve got a bit of a wait on our hands. The water temp is sitting at about 70°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – not a bad thing for the early morning sessions.

The first real sniff of anything worthwhile isn’t until Saturday, the 8th of August. That morning, we’ll see a south swell pushing 1.5m (about 5 ft), with a period of 12 seconds and moderate wave energy (663). The wind is looking cross-offshore, which is a solid bonus. That afternoon gets even better: the swell sticks around 1.5m (5 ft), period bumps up to 13 seconds, and the energy jumps to 717. Winds stay cross-off, and it’s looking clean. This is the standout window for the near term.

We’ve got a bit of a lull after that with messy onshore winds through Sunday and Monday. Not worth paddling out for.

The next proper highlight lands on the morning of Saturday, the 15th of August. That’s over a week away, so keep your expectations in check, but it’s promising. We’re looking at 1.4m (about 5 ft) of south-southeast swell with a 13-second period, and the energy is strong at 1025. The wind is glassy – dead calm. That combination could be something special for Morro do Maluf. The afternoon gets a bit bigger, 1.8m (about 6 ft) with a very long 16-second period from the SSE and energy at 1710, but it will be a bit more powerful and might suit better if you’ve got a bigger board.

Following that, Sunday the 16th has clean conditions but with a cross-offshore wind on the afternoon session and 1.5m (5 ft) swell. Not quite the same magic as Saturday morning, but still worth a look.

By Monday the 17th, we’re back to cleaner but smaller surf, with glassy conditions in the morning on a 0.9m (3 ft) SSE swell.

After that, it fades out pretty quick through the rest of the window, with smaller swells and a lot of onshore wind. The second week is really just about that Saturday the 15th window.

If you’re picking your moment, Saturday the 8th afternoon is your best bet in the first week. Saturday the 15th morning is the long-range one to circle on the calendar, but it’s still a way out, so don’t lock it in just yet.

Rusty.
