The Lowdown

Hey folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s happening at Mar da Frente.

Alright, I gotta level with you. The start of this forecast is a total bust. You've got Wednesday the 5th morning showing 6ft of short-period ESE swell, with a moderate energy reading of 531. The wind is a cross-off from the SSE at 12 mph, so it’s clean, but it’s a "marginal" situation. The afternoon drops right off, and from there Wednesday afternoon all the way through the 10th, it’s a wasteland. Scores are zero, conditions are poor with lousy cross-shore winds. You’re looking at a solid five or six days where there’s nothing worth paddling out for.

Things perk up a touch on Tuesday the 11th of August. The morning brings 5ft of swell from the SE, with a strong energy reading of 392. The wind is clean and cross-off from the SSE at 12 mph. It’s still a short-period swell at 7 seconds, but it’s the cleanest wave you’ll see in this first week. Still, it’s only a "marginal" call, so don’t expect perfection.

From there, it’s back to the same old story. Days of 3ft to 4ft E/ESE swell, but with cross or cross-off winds that leave the surface messy. There’s a clean window on the 13th with 4ft from the ESE, but it’s just a brief moment in a long stretch of mediocrity. The second week is more of the same; a lot of short-period, low-quality surf. The 18th shows some 5ft ESE swell, but the winds pick up too much to make it worthwhile.

Honestly, there’s no single day that screams "go." The cleanest surf happens on the 11th and maybe the 13th, but neither has the juice or the consistency to really get your heart pumping. It’s one of those flat, frustrating runs. But hang in there—things usually turn around.

Rusty.
