Table - best surf conditions forecast for Little Makaha over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the coming weeks.
First off, I gotta be straight with you – the outlook for Little Makaha is a quiet one. For the first week and a half, we’re looking at a whole lot of nothing good. The swell is tiny and the wind is stubbornly cross-off from the ENE, which just doesn’t suit this place. The water temp is sitting at 79°, which is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
From now through July 13th, the surf is flat and poor. Forget about it. There’s a bit of a bump that shows up on July 14th – Tuesday morning sees a 4ft swell from the NE with a short period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to 415 (moderate). But it’s a messy, short-period windswell and the wind is still cross-off. It’s a marginal call at best, only really for the keenest longboarders on a forgiving day. The afternoon gets a bit bigger at 5ft (energy 504), but still, the quality is low.
July 15th Wednesday might offer a tiny glimmer. There’s a 2ft swell from the WNW with a long 15-second period (energy 326), but again, the wind ruins it. The afternoon swings to a 5ft NE windswell (energy 501) – again, short period and messy. Honestly, nothing here is worth paddling out for.
From July 16th right through to the 24th, it’s a long, dry stretch. The swell completely drops out, with energy readings falling into the low double digits and even zero. The wind doesn’t let up, and the wave comments are all “poor surf conditions.” This is a proper flat spell.
Then, on July 25th, Saturday morning, we get a bit of a pulse back. A 5ft NE swell with a 7-second period (energy 251) shows up. It’s short period and the wind is still cross-off, so it’s not going to be pretty. Then the 26th shows a similar 5ft NE swell (energy 276) in the afternoon. Again, poor conditions.
To be honest, there’s no standout session here. The only break on offer is Little Makaha, a reef break that’s consistent and rated for beginners, but the wind is just never right. The setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing with this constant cross-off breeze and weak, short-period swell. We’ve got a long blank run of nearly ten days with nothing, and even when the swell bumps up, the quality is missing. Forecasts can change, but for now, this is a leave-your-board-at-home kind of outlook.
Rusty.
