Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright crew, Rusty here with the local surf news. I’ve gotta lay it on you straight – it’s looking like a flat spell for the next couple weeks. Don’t get stoked yet.
The first chance for a wave is at Ka'anapali Point on Friday, July 3rd. It’s a reef break for the beginners. Water temp is about normal for this time of year, nothing wild. Morning shows a tiny 1 ft swell from the SW with a very long 17-second period. That’s some real deep ocean groundswell, but there's no power behind it – the combined energy is weak as can be (51). The wind is a cross-offshore breeze at 12 mph, keeping it clean, but you'll be floating around with nothing to catch.
The next worth mentioning is Saturday morning, July 4th. We see a bump to 5 ft from the NE, but with a short 8-second period. The energy jumps to moderate (341), but it’s marked as marginal. It’s a bit of a messy combo, and while it’s clean, it’s not the kind of swell that lines up perfectly.
The biggest pulse of the entire forecast hits on Monday afternoon, July 6th. We're talking 6 ft from the NE with a pitiful 7-second period. The combined energy hits 376, the highest in the run, but that’s a short, steep, closeout machine. Over 5 ft, it’s already getting too big for learners, and with the messy period and constant wind, this is more of a kite-surfing kind of setup than a paddle day.
Here’s the real drag: the whole 16-day run is plagued by a persistent ENE cross-offshore wind at 12-19 mph. It keeps the surface clean but does nothing for the shape or power. Every day is marked as poor or marginal surf.
By Wednesday, July 15th, we get a long-period (14-15 seconds) W/SW groundswell, but it’s tiny – just 2 ft to 2 ft. The energy keeps dropping from 231 down to a pathetic 73 by the final day, July 18th. The period is good for shape, but there’s no size to ride.
If I had to pick one day that isn't a total wash, it would be that Saturday morning, July 4th, with 5 ft. It’s the least bad of a bad lot. For the rest of it, I’d say save the gas, wax a board, and wait for the next system.
Things can turn around quick though.
Rusty.
