The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s shaping up for the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – it’s gonna be a quiet stretch. We’ve got a long gap here with no real surf on offer to start, so don’t be in a rush to grab your board.
The first chance of anything worth mentioning doesn't come until Wednesday morning the 19th. Even then, we're looking at small, weak waves. The water temp is sitting around 80°F, which is pretty average for this time of year.
So, Wednesday morning the 19th, we finally see a pulse of energy. Ka'anapali Point (Maui) picks up a tiny 2ft swell from the NE. The combined swell energy is moderate, just tipping into three digits at 108. The period is a short 6 seconds, so it's gonna be a bit weak and a bit bumpy. The wind is a cross-offshore from the NE at 9 mph, which is rideable. It’s clean enough, but honestly, it’s only just surfable. Not a standout by any stretch.
That same day, Wednesday afternoon, the swell bumps up to 4ft from the NE, period climbs to 8 seconds, and the wave energy jumps to 242. It’s still got that cross-offshore wind, but it’s still pretty ordinary conditions. If you’re desperate for a paddle, that afternoon might be your best shot, but keep expectations low.
After that, it pretty much dries up again. We see tiny pulses of 1ft to 2ft swell for the next week or so, but the wind stays up, the energy is low, and the conditions are poor. There’s a bit of a bump in energy on the 20th and 21st, but we’re talking 134 and 174 on the energy scale, with tiny 1ft, long-period SW swells. Those long-period swells (17-18 seconds) are pretty, but at this size they won't do much on a beach.
Truth is, for the entire 16-day window looking into early September, it’s a pretty flat run. The swell heights rarely get above 2ft, and the energy just isn't there. There are no true standouts here. If you’re a beginner, Wednesday afternoon could be a gentle, forgiving session, but for anyone else, it’s a waiting game.
This is a classic quiet spell for the area. The forecasts can change, but for now, the ocean is taking a nap. Keep your eye on it, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
