The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this is a grim forecast for Lido Beach. We’re looking at a 16-day window with almost nothing worth paddling out for. The energy is weak, the wind is rarely your friend, and the swell is inconsistent and small. The whole stretch is a write-off, so save your wax and find something else to do.

The first sign of any surfable wave comes on Thursday afternoon, 30 July. Lido Beach is a beach and jetty setup, and the water temp is sitting at 73.6°F, which is about average for this time of year with a slight positive anomaly of 1.1°F, nothing unusual. But the swell is tiny at 2.9 ft out of the SSE, with a short period of 8 seconds. The wind is a light cross-off from the WNW at 6 mph, so the surface will be clean, but the wave energy is weak (122). It’s surfable, but it’s flat and ordinary.

Friday, 31 July, and Saturday, 1 August, bring even smaller waves – 2.3 ft and 2.0 ft respectively – with clean cross-off winds in the mornings, but the energy is pathetic (73 and 76). The morning of 1 August is the best of a bad bunch, but it’s still a knee-high dribble. After that, the wind swings onshore and the swell stays tiny, with poor conditions dominating through the first week.

From Monday, 3 August, through to Tuesday, 11 August, the story doesn’t improve. The swell height rarely tops 1.6 ft, the period is short, and the wind is generally onshore or cross-onshore, creating chop. There’s a brief moment on Monday morning, 10 August, with glassy conditions, but the swell is only 2.0 ft from the ESE with a period of 6 seconds – it’s flat and gutless. The energy is a measly 50.

Honestly, there’s no standout here. Don’t bother. The only real highlight is the clean conditions on Thursday afternoon, 30 July, if you’re desperate for a limp ankle-snapper. For the rest of the forecast, it’s a bust. That’s the reality of it.

Short Range Forecast

Heavy rain (total 24mm), heaviest during Tue night. Warm (max 26°C on Wed afternoon, min 21°C on Wed morning). Winds increasing (light winds from the SW on Mon morning, fresh winds from the SSE by Tue night).

Days 4-6 Weather Summary

Some drizzle, heaviest during Fri night. Warm (max 24°C on Thu afternoon, min 20°C on Thu night). Wind will be generally light.
