Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what the next couple of weeks are serving up for Lido Beach.
Right off the bat, I’ve got to be straight with you – this is a pretty grim stretch for surf. We’re looking at a solid 12-day gap with no proper surf on offer. The first session worth mentioning doesn’t roll around until Wednesday, July 8th, and even then it’s only just surfable. The energy is weak, barely registering 76 for the combined swell energy, and the swell is tiny at 3 ft from the east. It’s not going to get the heart racing, but the winds are light and cross-offshore, so the surface will be clean. That’s your only real window for a paddle in the first week and a half.
Things pick up a little around Monday, July 14th, with another marginal day. A pulse of easterly swell pushes the combined energy up to 94, but it’s still a small 2 ft wave. Again, light cross-offshore winds from the northwest will keep it clean, so you could get a few fun little ones if you’re desperate. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, so no weird surprises there.
The real standout, if you can even call it that, is Saturday, July 18th. The swell finally shows some muscle, with a groundswell from the south pushing 6 ft in the afternoon. The combined energy jumps to 304, which is a moderate punch. But here’s the catch – the wind is a moderate cross-onshore, making it choppy and messy. Still, if you’re an experienced surfer looking for the biggest wave of the forecast, this is it. The south swell direction is a match for the optimum, but the quality is going to be rough. For beginners, that 6 ft is too big, and with the chop, it’s a handful.
Sunday, July 19th, might offer a cleaner option as the swell drops to 4 ft with a fresh cross-offshore breeze from the northeast, keeping the surface clean. The energy is moderate at 121.
Honestly, Lido Beach is a beach and jetty setup, and with this much wind and poor quality surf, it looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing on a few of those days. Crowds are possible at Lido, but with this forecast, I doubt anyone will be out.
Stay patient, and check back in a few days. Forecasts can change.
Rusty.
