The Lowdown
Alright, let’s talk about Lido Beach.
Right now, there’s not much going on. The start of the period has a little bump on Monday the 17th, with 6ft SSE swell, but rain and cross-off wind make it only marginal. The water is 75°, a touch warmer than usual. Not worth suiting up for.
The next several days drop off fast. Tuesday the 18th morning is glassy but only 3ft – tiny and ordinary. By Wednesday the 19th, it’s barely breaking at 1ft, and the wind swings onshore in the afternoon. From Thursday the 20th through the following week, it’s flat, with swell heights under 2ft and poor conditions. That’s about a week of nothing.
The first real change is Tuesday the 25th. Tuesday morning brings 4ft S swell with a short 5-second period, cross-off wind, and clean conditions. Energy is weak. Afternoon, the swell jumps to 6ft from the S, period 6 seconds, energy moderate, but the wind turns cross-onshore and it gets choppy.
Wednesday the 26th morning has 4ft from the S, 8-second period, cross wind, and moderate energy. Still only marginal.
The standout is Friday the 28th. Friday morning delivers 4ft SE swell with a long 14-second period, and the energy is strong. The wind is cross-off from the NE, and it’s clean. This is the best looking surf in the whole outlook. The long period means proper groundswell, and the SE direction works well for Lido. Friday afternoon holds with 4ft, 12-second period, still clean.
After that, Saturday the 29th drops off quickly – 2ft, weak energy, and by Sunday the 30th, it’s back to small and onshore. The trend fades out into the first days of September with nothing worthwhile.
So, if you’re looking for a window, Friday the 28th is your best bet. It’s not a classic, but it’s the only time the swell, wind, and conditions line up.
