The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let's get stuck into this one.

Bottom line, it's a quiet stretch ahead for Lido Beach. We're looking at a long run of small, choppy, and pretty ordinary conditions. The swell energy is really weak, with combined energy values mostly in the double digits (31 to 161) for the first ten days, and only a couple of brief spikes into the 200s and 300s later on. The water's a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 75°, which is a nice plus, but it won't do much to save the surf.

The first real chance at anything rideable doesn't show up until Thursday, July 23rd. The morning is a bit of a gamble with a "marginal" call, but the afternoon looks cleaner. We'll have a light WNW breeze, which is cross-offshore, cleaning up a 4 ft swell from the SSE with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is a moderate 206. It's not going to be epic, but it's the only window that's looking "good" in the whole 16-day forecast. That's your best bet for the whole outlook.

After that, it's a long, drawn-out gap. Friday, July 24th, starts with a glassy 2 ft SE swell, but the energy is a pathetic 74, and it's just "surfable but very ordinary." The wind goes onshore and kills it by the afternoon. From there, it's day after day of poor surf, with small, weak swells, mostly cross-onshore or onshore winds, and choppy conditions. The wind states are a mess, with "moderate cross-onshore and choppy" being the most common phrase.

There's a tiny flicker of hope on the final day of the run, Sunday, August 2nd. The morning shows a clean 5 ft S swell with a WNW cross-offshore breeze and combined energy of 199. It's still just "surfable," but it's the cleanest looking window in the second week. The period is only 7 seconds, so it's a short-period wind swell, lacking any real grunt.

Honestly, if you're after a paddle, Thursday afternoon is the only real standout. The rest of the time, the combination of small, weak swell and persistent onshore flow means this setup is more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. It's a long wait for very little reward.

Rusty.
