The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's coming up for Kisami-Ohama Beach.

Right now, things are looking a bit bleak. There's a long stretch of poor to marginal conditions ahead. Honestly, it's a tough start to the outlook. The first real chance of anything worth paddling out for is on Thursday the 27th of August into the afternoon. That afternoon window is the standout – the wind goes glassy, calm, and you've got some clean, knee-to-waist high swell (3ft from the SW) rolling in. The water temperature is bang on average for this time of year at 81°, so no surprises there. The combined swell energy is weak to moderate (356). It's not big, but for a break that's inconsistent and a beginner-friendly spot, that glassy session will be the best of a quiet week. It's also the only time where the wind truly cooperates.

From Friday the 28th onwards, it's a write-off for a solid week. The onshore winds kick in from the NE and ENE, and the swell drops right off, barely hitting 2ft. The combined energy is low (as low as 67) and the surf quality is marked as poor. This flat spell runs right through until the end of August and into the first few days of September. There's a pulse of bigger swell around the 1st and 2nd of September (4ft to 6ft from the S), but the wind is cross-onshore or onshore, so it's going to be choppy and messy. The long period groundswell (15 seconds) on the 1st is promising in theory, but with onshore winds, it'll just be a lumpy mess at the beach.

The second week doesn't get much better. From the 4th of September onwards, there's consistent chest-to-head high swell (4ft to 8ft from the S and SSE) with moderate energy (565 to 2018). But the wind stays locked in from the ENE or NE, straight onshore or cross-onshore, creating choppy to lumpy conditions. The waves will be powerful – over 5ft this is not for beginners, and by the 9th of September (7ft to 8ft), it's expert-only territory anyway. With that onshore wind, even the bigger swell looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer.

So, the honest truth: there's one brief, glassy window on the afternoon of the 27th. If you can get out then for some clean, small waves, you'll be rewarded. The rest of the 16 days is a washout. Hang in there, mate. Conditions like this don't stick around forever.

Rusty.
