Il Bunker (Santa Marinella) Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for the next couple of weeks.

Straight up, I gotta be honest with you – this is one of those outlooks where the surf is almost non-existent. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with hardly anything to get excited about. The only spot that even gets a mention is Il Bunker (Santa Marinella), and even then, it’s a tough sell. This break is a point break that rarely breaks, so when it’s flat, it’s just flat. We’re looking at a real drought here.

The first little pulse shows up on Thursday, 6th of August. The afternoon sees a tiny 1.0ft swell from the south, with a short period of 5 seconds. The wind is a cross-offshore from the west at 12 mph, so the surface will be clean. But honestly, the combined wave energy is a measly (4), and the guidance calls it “poor surf conditions.” It’s barely a ripple.

Friday the 7th offers a bit of a glassy morning with an easterly breeze at 3 mph, but the swell drops to just 0.7ft from the west. The afternoon is a little cleaner with a cross-offshore wind, but again, 0.7ft of swell. The energy is (1) and (2) respectively. Not worth paddling out for.

Saturday the 8th morning has a slightly bigger 2ft swell from the WSW, period 5 seconds, but the wind is a light cross-on at 6 mph, putting a bit of a wrinkle on it. The energy climbs to (17), which is still very weak. The afternoon is a cross-shore breeze with 1ft swell. It’s still poor.

We go glassy again on Sunday the 9th morning, but with only 0.7ft of swell. The afternoon is cross-offshore but the same tiny height. The pattern is clear: the swell just isn’t there.

Then, from Monday the 10th of August all the way through to Sunday the 16th of August, it’s a complete blank. Zero swell. The combined energy is (0) for every single session. The wind is often glassy or cross-offshore, but with no waves, it doesn’t matter. That’s a full week of flatness.

We finally see a tiny flicker of life on Monday the 17th of August. The morning shows a glassy 1ft swell from the southwest with a 4-second period. Energy is (4). The afternoon is a bit bigger in wind but with only 0.7ft of swell. Again, poor surf conditions.

Another couple of flat days follow, and then on Wednesday the 19th of August, the morning has a glassy 2ft swell from the WSW, period 5 seconds. Energy is (17). The afternoon has a 1.0ft swell. It’s still not enough to call it a surf.

The last few days of the outlook, Thursday the 20th and Friday the 21st, are tiny or flat. The water temperature is a very unusual 84°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year. That’s the only standout feature of this whole forecast.

Honestly, there’s no standout here. The best on offer might be the morning of the 19th of August with the 2ft glassy conditions, but 2ft with a 5-second period is barely a wave. If you’re desperate for a paddle, you might find a knee-high ripple, but don’t expect a wave you can actually ride. The setup here is a point, but with this little energy, it’s going to be a long, flat wait.
