The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it.
Honestly, the next couple of weeks are looking pretty flat and bleak for the most part. We’ve got a lot of small, weak surf on the horizon, and you’ll be waiting a while before anything even gets close to being worth a proper paddle out. We’re looking at a long stretch of nothing, which is a bit of a bummer, but that’s the summer pattern for you.
The first real highlight, if you can even call it that, is the morning of Sunday the 16th. We finally see a pulse of energy, with a 3ft southwest swell rolling in with a 6-second period. The energy is still weak, only hitting 52, but the wind is light and offshore, which will keep it glassy. It’s surfable, but it’s far from epic. It’s the kind of surf you go out for because you need a fix, not because it’s going to be a session you’ll be talking about for weeks.
Then, things get a little more interesting on Monday the 17th. The swell picks up to the same 3ft, but the period stretches out to 8 seconds, and the energy jumps to a moderate 126. That’s the most promising pulse in the whole window. The morning is looking clean with that light offshore wind, and this is probably your best bet for a proper wave. It’s still small, but it’ll have a bit more push and shape to it. The afternoon gets a bit messier with a cross-onshore breeze, so get on it early.
After that, it just fades back out. There are a few little bumps here and there, like the afternoon of the 19th, which has some glassy conditions and a 3ft swell, but it's inconsistent and the energy is still weak. The 20th has a clean morning too, but again, it’s marginal.
Look, the main thing is that we’ve got a long gap of nothing before that Sunday morning. The water is a crazy warm 84° down at Garuglia Point (Lido di Camaiore), which is way warmer than normal for the time of year by over 7°, so a dip won’t be a shock, but the waves just aren’t there. The spot is pretty inconsistent anyway, so this blank run is a bit more normal for the area. It doesn’t tend to stay this poor for long, so hopefully, the forecasts will change for the better.
