The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, the forecast is looking pretty quiet for the most part. We've got a long stretch of small, weak surf and poor conditions to start, so don't be in a rush to grab your board. The first real chance of anything surfable doesn't arrive until Saturday the 22nd of August, and even then, it's just barely holding on.
The first solid week is basically a write-off. There's a lot of glassy mornings and light offshore winds, but the energy is just not there. The swell is tiny, the periods are short, and the sea is flat. You'd be better off taking a swim.
Things finally start to get a pulse on the morning of Saturday the 22nd. Bogliasco (the only spot in the window) offers up a small, clean 2ft SSW swell with a light offshore wind from the north. The combined energy is still weak at 57, but it's the first time we get a "surfable" rating. It's not going to blow your mind, but it's something. The water is running about 83°, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year.
The real standout, and the only period I'd genuinely point you toward, is the morning of Monday the 24th of August. Bogliasco sees a 3ft SW swell with a light offshore wind from the north-northeast. The combined energy jumps to a moderate 67, and the conditions are clean. It's a small day, but it's the best we're going to get.
The following morning, Tuesday the 25th of August, also has a surfable pulse with a 4ft SSW swell and clean conditions, but the energy is just not as good as Monday. After that, it's back to small, poor conditions through the end of the outlook.
So, to sum it up: the pick of the litter is the morning of Monday the 24th of August at Bogliasco. It's a small, clean day for the logs and fun shapes. Not a classic, but it's a window.
