The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty. Let's have a look at what's in store for Bogliasco over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, mate, I'm looking at this and it's a tough stretch. The whole 16-day window is basically a flat spell for Bogliasco. We're not seeing any real quality on offer, not a single standout session to get excited about. The first few days are a write-off for any real surfing.
We start on Monday the 24th of August and it's a full-on flat day with a tiny 0.3ft southerly swell and combined energy of just 1. The water is a warm 82°, but that's 6° above the long-term average for this time of year, which is really unusual. For the rest of the week into the start of September, we're looking at tiny waves, mostly under 2ft, with periods all under 7 seconds. The wind is mostly light and messy, often cross-onshore or onshore. There's a brief moment on Thursday the 27th afternoon with a glassy 2ft wave, but it's still a poor surf condition with no real power.
The swell does try to push a little towards the end of August. On Saturday the 29th, we get a 4ft SSW swell in the morning, with combined energy of 114, but it's ruined by a cross-onshore wind. The only moment that's even worth mentioning is Sunday the 30th morning. The swell drops to 3ft from the SSW, but you get a clean, cross-off wind from the ENE. The energy is a weak 64 (moderate), and the period is only 6 seconds, so it's small, weak, and average. The spot is a sandbar that's fairly consistent, but with water that warm, the crowds are possible sometimes. Still, it's the closest thing to a surfable session in the whole outlook.
After that, it's a huge gap. From the 31st of August right through to the 8th of September, the waves just disappear. We're talking days of flat conditions, with combined energy values of 0, 1, or 2. Winds are often clean and offshore, but there's no swell to ride. It's a proper blank run, which is more normal for this area when the conditions line up like this.
So, to be straight with you, there's no real standout here. The best you can hope for is a small, weak, clean wave on the morning of the 30th of August. If you're a beginner, the 3ft swell is manageable, but the short period means it'll be a bit gutless. For everyone else, this is a time to check the forecasts again in a few days. The conditions can change, but right now, it's a waiting game.
Rusty.
