The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let me tell you straight up, this next couple of weeks is a tough watch for us at Bogliasco. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with hardly a wave to speak of for most of the period.
Right from the start, it’s flat. Sunday the 13th and Monday the 14th have tiny, unrideable bumps. The water temp is sitting at 80°F which is a wild 8°F warmer than normal for this time of year—feels like a bath out there, but there's nothing to ride.
We’ve got a stretch from Tuesday the 15th all the way through to Wednesday the 23rd where the combined swell energy barely registers, often just 1 or 2 and sometimes zero. On Thursday the 17th, there’s a blip of swell energy (207) with a 4ft SSW swell at 6 seconds. That’s got some push, but the conditions are poor with rain and onshore wind. The Thursday afternoon window shows 2ft at 8 seconds with glassy wind, and that’s about the only time all week you might get a knee-high crumbler. It’s surfable, but nothing to get excited about.
After that, it’s back to a dead flat run from Friday the 20th through Tuesday the 23rd. Then on Wednesday the 23rd, we see a tiny 2ft SSW swell pop up, but it’s weak and the conditions are poor again. The following days into the end of the month stay flat with clean offshore wind on the 24th and 25th—typical for this sandbar spot—but no swell to use it.
Honestly, the only window that’s worth a look is Thursday the 17th afternoon, with that glassy 2ft swell at 8 seconds. It’s not a standout by any stretch, just the least bad option. For a beginner-friendly sandbar like Bogliasco, it’s small enough and the wind is clean, but the crowds might show up since it’s fairly consistent. Still, it’s a long wait for not much reward.
If you’re into kitesurfing, the stronger offshore winds on the 24th-27th might be more interesting than anything we’ve got for paddle surfing.
So, the bottom line: there’s no real swell on the horizon for the next two weeks. A tiny window on the 17th afternoon is the only chance to get wet, but don’t expect much.
Rusty.
