The Lowdown
Alright. Let’s break down Bogliasco in feet and miles per hour for you.
Honestly, this stretch is pretty flat for the most part. From Sunday the 23rd through the whole 16-day window, there’s hardly any real surf to get excited about. There are big gaps with boring, tiny waves, and only a couple of mornings that look even halfway decent.
On Sunday morning the 23rd, we get a 2ft SSW groundswell with a short 7-second period. The wind is light offshore from the NNE, so the surface will be clean, but the energy is weak (29). That afternoon it drops to a tiny 1ft and glassy – pretty much useless.
Monday the 24th is flat as a pancake. Tuesday and Wednesday stay dead or barely ankle-high. Thursday the 27th morning shows a tiny 2ft SSE pulse – still nothing worth getting out of bed for. Friday the 28th picks up more south swell, hitting 3ft in the morning and 5ft in the afternoon, but the wind is onshore and strong, blowing out any shape. The wave energy gets moderate (150), but it’s messy and poor for paddling.
Saturday the 29th is the one day to aim for. That morning, we’ve got 5ft of clean SSW swell with an 8-second period, and a light cross-offshore wind from the NNE (253 combined energy). The water will be glassy, and the waves will have a bit of push. It’s a sandbar break that’s fairly consistent and beginner-friendly, but 5ft might be a bit much for total beginners. Water temp is 82°F, which is 5°F warmer than normal – very unusual for this time of year.
Sunday the 30th morning still has 4ft of clean, offshore SSW swell (7 seconds, 160 energy), but it’s a step down from Saturday. After that, it drops off hard. Monday the 31st and beyond are mostly flat, with tiny 2ft or less swell, and many days show zero waves. The very end, on Saturday the 6th of September morning, shows a last little bump of 3ft SW swell with a 7-second period and clean cross-offshore wind (104 energy), but it’s a long way out and still pretty ordinary.
So, your best bet is Saturday morning the 29th of August. That’s the standout: clean, offshore, waist-to-chest high sets from the southwest. The rest of the two weeks? Mostly a flat, wasted window. You might as well hang out on the beach.
