The Lowdown
G’day, it’s Rusty. I’ve been staring at the Bogliasco charts, and let me tell you, it’s flat as a tack for most of this outlook. We’re looking at a real dry spell – almost two weeks with nothing worth paddling out for. The first hint of a wave doesn’t even show until Wednesday the 9th, and even then it’s tiny. From the 9th through to the 13th, we’ve got dribbles – knee-high at best, with periods of 4 to 5 seconds. That’s wind chop, not surf. Thursday the 10th might offer a clean little 1ft to 2ft on the dawn patrol with a light northerly breeze offshore – glassy, but there’s just no push behind it. The combined swell energy is weak, down in the single digits and teens (6, 14, 7, 24, 19) – all poor surf conditions, no way around it.
Then from the 14th of September right through to the 23rd, we’re looking at a total blank. Zeros across the board, day after day. The guidance shows the break is a sandbar that’s fairly consistent, but this run is about as dead as it gets. It tends not to stay poor for long, but honestly, this is a stretch where you’d be better off doing anything else. There’s no standout, no hidden gem – the water temp’s about average for this time of year, so no drama there, but that’s the only thing that’s normal.
If you’re desperate, Wednesday the 9th to Friday the 11th has the biggest swell on offer – all the way up to 2ft – but it’s mostly onshore or cross-onshore with rain and storm risk. Not worth the rubber. By Saturday the 12th it’s dropping again into chaotic 0.5ft leftovers. The sandbar doesn’t have the chance to do its thing with this kind of non-energy.
Bottom line: save the wax for later. There’s nothing here that’ll get your heart racing, and unless a miracle low-pressure system slides in, we’re just waiting. Keep an eye on the long-range, but for now, I’d grab the fishing rod instead of the board.
