Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get into it. I've got the skinny on what's happening for the next couple of weeks, and I gotta be honest with you... it's a tough one.
The Outlook
Basically, we're looking at a long, dry spell of flat to junk surf. For the next ten days, from Friday the 10th of July right through to Sunday the 20th, it's a desert out there. The wave energy is barely a whisper, with combined swell readings sitting at a measly 2 to 8 (weak energy). The water is a warm 79°, which is over three degrees warmer than usual for this time of year – very unusual. That's about the only thing going for us.
The first real sign of life doesn't show up until Monday the 20th of July. The Bogliasco sandbar might finally wake up with a 3ft SSW swell pushing in. The combined energy jumps to 113 (moderate wave energy), which is a solid step up. The morning looks like the window, with a clean, cross-offshore breeze from the ENE. But it's a one-hit wonder. The afternoon goes glassy, but the swell fades, and the quality drops right back off.
After that, it's back to the small stuff. The rest of the week into the 25th is more of the same: tiny slop with weak energy (1 to 29) and onshore breezes. For the Bogliasco sandbar, this is a pretty standard run of lean times. It's a spot that's fairly consistent, so it tends not to stay this bleak for too long, but this forecast is a bummer.
The Best of a Bad Bunch
If you absolutely have to get a wet suit on, circle Monday morning, July 20th. It's the only time the numbers offer anything. The Bogliasco sandbar will have a clean 3ft SSW swell, with the wind coming offshore from the north. It's a beginner-friendly break, so that size is fine for learning. The swell period is short at 7 seconds, so it won't be packing much punch, but it'll be the cleanest and biggest surf we see in the whole 16-day window. It's a stand-out only because the rest of the month is so flat.
Rusty, signing off.
