The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for the Bogliasco area over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough outlook. The whole 16-day window is pretty much a write-off for any decent surf. We’ve got a long dry spell starting from now, with only a few tiny, weak pulses that don’t really amount to anything rideable. There’s no standout session, no day to circle on the calendar. It’s one of those stretches where the ocean just goes to sleep.
The best of a bad bunch is barely worth mentioning. Monday morning, the 27th of July, we might see a tiny bit of life with a 2ft swell from the SW, but the period is short at 7 seconds, so it’s weak and gutless. The combined swell energy is a paltry 70 (moderate energy). The saving grace is a light cross-offshore breeze from the NE, which will keep the surface clean. But honestly, it’s still just "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions". You’d be lucky to get a little knee-high ripple.
After that, it’s back to nothing. We get a few days of tiny, almost flat conditions with combined energy readings dropping to single digits. The morning of the 28th and 29th of July are glassy, but with only 0.7ft of swell, it’s not worth paddling out for. The water temperature is a whopping 82°, which is 6° warmer than normal – very unusual for this time of year, so you’ll be comfortable in boardies, but that’s about the only positive.
The whole stretch from the 30th of July right through to the 10th of August is essentially flat. We see a few tiny spikes of 1.0ft or 2ft near the end of the first week of August, but with onshore winds and short periods, it’s just messy. The 7th of August morning has a 2ft swell from the SW with a 7-second period and 67 (moderate) energy, but it’s a cross-shore wind and still labeled "poor surf conditions". Nothing to get excited about.
Take it from me, this is a classic summer flat spell. The forecasts can change, but as it stands, leave the board at home and go for a swim. The water is warm, but the waves are just not there.
