The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, giving you the lowdown in feet and miles per hour. It’s looking like a pretty quiet stretch for the local break, with a big lull coming. Don’t rush to get your suit on.
The first few days are a bust. Wednesday the 29th and Thursday the 30th of July, we’re looking at tiny 0.3ft to 0.7ft swell from the SSE and S. The wave energy is almost nothing (combined energy of all swells directed here is just 6). A few mornings have glassy or light offshore wind, but with waves that small, it’s just a flat lake. Not worth it.
From Friday the 31st through to Wednesday the 6th of August, it goes dead flat. The swell stays tiny, 0.3ft to 1ft, but most days the combined energy hits zero. You’ll see some glassy mornings, like the 5th and 6th of August, but with swell period as low as 4 seconds, it’s just wind ripples. Water temp is about normal for this time of year.
The only possible window comes on Saturday the 8th of August. The morning shows a 3ft swell from the SW, period of 7 seconds. The combined energy bumps up to 115 (moderate wave energy). The wind is light cross-shore, so it’ll be a bit messy but not howling. That’s the most size we see, but it’s still poor surf conditions and the short period means weak, crumbly waves. Bogliasco is a sandbar that breaks fairly consistently, but the swell direction from the south isn’t ideal. Crowds can pop up sometimes, so you might have a few friends out.
After the 8th, from the 9th through the 13th of August, it’s back to nothing. The swell drops, energy is weak (28 down to 0), and the winds mix between cross and onshore. The 13th has clean offshore wind, but no swell at all.
The only real standout is the morning of August 8th. It’s the only time we see some 3ft waves, and with light cross-shore wind, it’s your best shot for a couple of small, weak waves. But don’t get your hopes high – it’s a quiet run. Sometimes that’s just how it goes.
Rusty.
