The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's get into it for the Bogliasco stretch.
We're in for a quiet spell. The first proper surfable day isn't until the 21st of August, so there's a solid gap of nothing but flat, clean conditions with no energy. From today, the 12th, right through to the end of the 20th, you can leave the board in the car. Water temp is running much warmer than normal at 83°, so it’s a good time for a swim.
Our first real option pops up on Friday the 21st. Bogliasco (sandbar) will have a tiny 3ft SSW swell rolling in with a short period of 7 seconds. It’s tiny, but the morning brings an offshore breeze from the N at 9 mph, keeping it clean. The combined energy is only 59, so it's weak, but at least it's surfable. Conditions are very ordinary, but beggars can't be choosers.
The best of what little we have comes on Saturday the 22nd. Early morning again, with a 3ft SSW swell and those clean offshore winds from the NNE at 6 mph. The energy bumps up to 71, still weak. The swell direction from the SSW does match what this spot likes. It’s a ‘fairly consistent’ break, and crowds are only a ‘sometimes’ thing, so you might get a couple of waves to yourself. That's your standout, right there. For you beginners, the swell is under 5ft, so it’s totally manageable, but don't expect any power.
Everything after that fades back into the weeds. By the 25th and 26th, there’s even less size and wonky periods, despite a few offshore breezes. Nothing worth setting an alarm for.
So, bottom line: the 22nd morning is your best bet for a little slide on a clean, tiny wave. The rest of the 16 days is a write-off.
Rusty.
