The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, let’s talk about Bogliasco for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, this is a tough stretch. The first week looking at the charts is pretty grim; there’s almost nothing rideable heading our way. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with barely a ripple. The water is sitting at a very unusual 82.4°, which is way warmer than normal for this time of year at Bogliasco.
The only real glimmer of hope, and I mean the only one worth paddling out for, arrives on Thursday morning, the 6th of August. That morning, we finally see a pulse of swell, with waves building to about 3.6 ft from the SSW. The combined energy reads at (104), which is moderate, and the wind is glassy—dead calm. That offshore breeze from the ENE will keep the surface smooth. It’s a sandbar setup, so expect it to be pretty inconsistent, but for a Thursday morning, you might get some clean little waves to yourself. It won’t be world-class, but it’s the best we’ve got.
Before that, the only other remotely surfable moment is Monday the 27th of July in the morning. The swell is tiny at 2.9 ft from the SSW, with a light offshore wind from the NE. The energy is weak (69), and the period is short, so it’s not going to be great, but it will be clean. You could maybe get a few closeouts if you’re desperate.
After the 6th of August, it looks like the tap turns off again completely, with flat spells and nothing of consequence for the rest of the window. For kite surfers, the afternoons with a cross-onshore breeze might offer something, but for a paddle surfer, the pickings are very, very slim.
