The Lowdown
Alright folks, it's Rusty here. Let's be straight with you – the outlook for the next 16 days here at Bogliasco is a bit of a heartbreaker. We're looking at a long stretch of tiny, weak surf with barely enough energy to push a sea-weed noodle, so don't expect much.
We start off on Saturday morning, August 1st, with a tiny 2ft swell from the SW, but it's a short period 5 second wave with weak energy (14). The wind is a cross-offshore from the NE at 3 mph, so the surface is clean, but the waves are just too small and weak to bother with. The water is a very unusual 83° – that's much warmer than normal for this time of year.
The whole first week is a write-off. We have a few glassy mornings with tiny bumps, but nothing rideable. From Monday the 3rd through to Saturday the 8th, there are days with zero swell. It's a real flat spell.
Then, on Monday morning, August 10th, we get a bit of a pulse. A 2ft SW swell with a 7-second period and moderate energy (89) rolls in. The wind is a moderate offshore from the NNE at 12 mph, which will clean things up. This is the closest we get to a surfable wave, but it's still pretty ordinary. For a beginner, that 2ft is fine, but the quality is poor.
After that, it's back to tiny, weak surf for the rest of the outlook. There's a small bump on Friday morning, August 14th, with 2ft from the SSW, again with weak energy (36) and a light cross-offshore wind, but it's just not enough to get excited about.
The bottom line: there are no good surf options in this 16-day window. The swell energy is just too weak. It's a tough run for the area, but it tends not to stay poor for long. Keep an eye on the forecasts, things can change.
