The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's on the menu for the next 16 days, and I gotta be straight with you—it's a pretty lean stretch.
First off, the only spot we've got any info on is Bogliasco. It's a sandbar setup, and it's fairly consistent, but the crowds can pop up sometimes. The water temp is sitting at a steamy 84°F, which is a massive 8°F warmer than normal for this time of year, so that's some seriously unusual bathwater.
The overall pattern is bleak. We're looking at a long, dry spell with hardly any energy. The combined swell energy is a big fat zero for most of the period, with only a few tiny pulses of weak wave energy (values like 3, 2, 1, 33, 39, and 91) that barely register. The swell that does show up is short-period stuff, under 8 seconds, so it's weak and lacking any punch.
The week starts on Tuesday, 21 July, but it's a total write-off. Tuesday morning has a slight cross-offshore breeze but zero swell. Tuesday afternoon brings a tiny 0.3ft SW swell at 4 seconds, but it's glassy. Still, it's barely a ripple.
Wednesday, 22 July, is clean with a morning offshore wind, but there's no swell at all. Thursday and Friday follow the same pattern—clean mornings with offshore wind, but the swell is a pathetic 0.3ft to 0.7ft. Not worth paddling out for.
The weekend of 25-26 July sees a tiny bump. Saturday is clean but flat. Sunday, 26 July, has the biggest swell of the whole run at 2ft from the SSE, but it's wind-affected and choppy. The energy is weak (33). Not a standout.
Then on Monday, 27 July, we get the best of a bad lot. The morning has a clean 2ft SSE swell with a period of 8 seconds, and a nice offshore wind from the north. The combined energy is 91—still weak, but it's the highest we'll see. The conditions are ordinary, but it's the only surfable moment in the whole forecast. The southerly direction is what this sandbar likes, so that's a plus.
After that, it's a dead zone. From Tuesday, 28 July, all the way through to Wednesday, 5 August, there is absolutely no swell on the cards. The mornings are clean and glassy with offshore or light winds, but there's nothing to ride. It's a solid 9-day stretch of flatness.
So, if you're really desperate, Monday, 27 July, in the morning is your only real shot. It's not going to be anything special, but it's the only window with a wave that's surfable.
Rusty.
