The Lowdown

Alright, I’m looking at this 16-day window and right now… it’s a tough one. The swell is basically non-existent for the first several days, so we're stuck with a flat spell before anything even starts to show. The first real wave energy worth talking about doesn’t kick in until around the 6th of August. Even then, it’s not exactly firing, but let’s get into what's on offer.

For this stretch, everything points toward Bogliasco. That’s all we’ve got in the mix, so it’s the only break in town.

The forecast kicks off with almost nothing. From Saturday the 25th through to the end of July, we’re looking at tiny leftovers and mostly clean conditions but no power. Swell heights sit between flat and 2ft, mostly from the SE to SW, and the combined wave energy is extremely weak—stuck in the single digits (1 to 45), barely enough to get your fins wet. Winds do offer some light offshore or cross-off moments, especially on the mornings of the 27th, 28th, and 30th with a north wind, but there’s just no push. A few sessions on the 27th and 28th see a touch more period (6 to 7 seconds), but it’s still tiny and pretty poor for riding. The 31st of July goes completely flat and glassy.

By the 2nd of August, we get another little pulse of 0.3ft swell, still with weak energy, and it stays that way into the 3rd. Nothing worth paddling for. The whole first week-plus of August is flat to near-flat, with the 5th offering a glassy morning but zero swell.

Now, if you’re patient, the best window looks like Thursday the 6th of August. The morning shows 2ft from the SSW with a 6-second period, and the combined energy finally climbs to 51—still weak but the highest in the whole outlook. What makes this a standout is the wind: it’s glassy. No wind at all. That means the surface will be clean and smooth, even if the waves are small. The wind stays glassy into the afternoon too, but the energy drops to 38. For a spot like Bogliasco, a light north-easterly offshore or glassy conditions are a major bonus, giving you the cleanest possible ride on what little swell there is. The swell direction is from the SSW, which is not its absolute optimum (the spot prefers S), but it’s close enough to wrap in a little. This is a beginner-friendly break anyway, so the tiny size is fine for learners. Just don’t expect any punch.

The 7th and 8th of August see a slight increase in period (up to 8 seconds) but with onshore and cross-onshore winds that mess up the surface, making it choppy and less appealing.

Honestly, the overall pattern is a long dry spell. Over a week of near-zero surf from the start, then just a moment of glassy small waves on the 6th. If you’re desperate for a paddle, that Thursday morning is the only one that looks clean. The rest is a write-off or rough. For an area like this, a blank run is pretty normal when the swell just isn’t there.

Stay patient, keep an eye on the forecasts—things can change. But for now, it’s a quiet couple of weeks.

Rusty.
