The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight up about Bogliasco – it's a grim outlook for the next couple of weeks. We've got a sandbar set-up that's pretty exposed to the south, and honestly, there's just nothing doing for paddle surfing. The whole 16-day window is a write-off for decent waves.
Looking right through from late August into mid-September, the swell stays tiny. We're talking little knee-high slop at best on the Saturday afternoon of the 29th with a weak 3ft from the SSW but a short 6-second period and onshore wind, so it's a mess. The combined energy is just a paltry 95, barely a ripple. The water is a very unusual 81°, which is 7° warmer than normal for this time of year – super warm but no good surf to enjoy it in.
Most mornings offer some light offshore or glassy conditions, which is the only positive. On Sunday the 30th, there's a clean 3ft swell in the morning with light NE winds, and again on the morning of September 1st with a clean 2ft, but the swell is just too weak and short-period to do anything. The energy numbers are all in the teens or single digits. We get a couple of glassy mornings like September 2nd and 8th, but with absolutely zero swell, you might as well be staring at a lake.
There's a tiny blip around the 9th of September, with a 2ft S swell and a combined energy of 50 on the Wednesday morning, and another 1ft with a longer 9-second period in the afternoon, but it's still too small to surf and the onshore wind in the afternoon will mess it up.
Honestly, there are no standout days. For the next 16 days, the best you're going to get is a clean, glassy flat spell. The whole stretch is a gap. There's just no energy in the water. If you're desperate for a bump in the ocean, you could paddle your board around, but don't expect to catch anything. For anyone looking for a wave, it's a total blank. The setup here is better suited for a sit-on-top kayak or just enjoying the unusually warm water from the beach.
