Honestly, the next sixteen days are a flat spell for Bogliasco. The ocean’s pretty much asleep. There’s a big gap of nothing from the start, with the first real surfable energy not showing up until Friday the 11th. Even then, it’s tiny. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Sunday, September 6th through to Thursday, September 10th is a write-off. Swell heights are barely a wobble, mostly 0.3 ft to 1 ft, and the energy is pathetic (6 to 2). Winds are a mix of cross-off and onshore, but it doesn’t matter because there’s nothing to ride.
Friday, September 11th is the one day that gets a little pulse. Early morning, the wind turns offshore from the NNW at 15 km/h, and we get a tiny 1 ft swell from the SSE with a period of 5 seconds. The combined energy reads a weak 9 (moderate energy). It’s clean, and it’s the best of a very bad bunch. That afternoon the wind drops to a slight air offshore, but the swell fades fast.
Saturday, September 12th through to Monday, September 21st is a long, drawn-out nothing. Swell stays below 0.7 ft, periods are short, and energy is mostly 1 to 3. The wind is occasionally offshore or glassy, but there’s no wave to shape. The period on the 14th afternoon hits 9 seconds, but with only 0.3 ft of swell, it’s a ghost.
The only true standout is the Friday morning of the 11th if you’re desperate for a paddle. It’s the only time the stars align for a tiny, clean, offshore wave. For everyone else, this is a classic bogliasco flat spell. It’s a beach-and-sandbar setup, and with these conditions, it’s more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. Don’t hold your breath.
