The Lowdown
Alright, well, grab a coffee ‘cause it’s a quiet one for Bogliasco. Gotta be straight with you – the next 16 days are looking pretty grim. We’re talking a long stretch of barely a ripple. The whole thing starts with a real flat spell and honestly, outside of one window that’s still pretty weak, we’re looking at a whole lot of nothing. The first bit of swell that even registers as surfable doesn’t show up until the morning of Sunday the 26th of July, and even then it’s a struggle.
We’ve got a small window starting Sunday the 26th into Monday the 27th where the sandbar might just hold a little something. The water temp is running way warmer than normal for this time of year at around 84°F, which feels more like a bath than a surf session. On Sunday morning, the swell comes from the SSE at 3 ft with a period of 6 seconds. The combined energy is still pretty weak (60). The wind is blowing cross-offshore from the ENE at 6 mph, so it’ll be clean. That afternoon, the swell switches to the SW, still 3 ft but a 7-second period, pushing that energy up a slight touch (132) with glassy conditions from a light NW 3 mph breeze. Monday the 27th morning holds a similar 3 ft swell from the SW with a 7-second period, but the energy drops back (76). You get light offshore winds from the NNE at 3 mph. It’s surfable, but just barely. Honestly, that whole stretch is for the dedicated soul on a log; it’s tiny, low energy, and not really breaking with any punch. For a beginner, it’s small enough to be fine, but for anyone else, it’s a frustrating paddle for a gutless wave.
After that Monday, it drops off a cliff again. Everything from Tuesday the 28th of July right through to Wednesday the 5th of August is a write-off. Tiny dribbles, onshore winds, and flat spells dominate. The swell is either non-existent or junk under 1 ft. There’s nothing else to recommend.
So, the bottom line: Bogliasco is having a very ordinary July and August kick-off. Your only real chance is that Sunday 26th to Monday 27th window, and even then, it’s more about being in the water than catching good waves. Keep an eye on it, but don’t hold your breath.
