The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. I’m not gonna sugarcoat it – the surf menu is pretty bare for a while. We’re looking at a long, flat spell starting now, stretching all the way to the morning of Monday, September 21st. That’s almost two weeks of nothing. The only thing that stands out is the water temp at Bogliasco, which is a balmy 82° – way warmer than normal for September.
Don’t bother paddling out until that Monday. On the morning of the 21st, we get a lift from a southwest swell, pushing to about 4ft with a 9-second period. It’s got moderate energy behind it (253) and the winds look clean, blowing offshore from the north. That’s your window. The sandbar at Bogliasco will be the spot to be. It’s fairly consistent, and with the offshore breeze, the waves will have some shape. The afternoon will see the swell drop to about 3ft from the southwest, still with a clean cross-off wind.
That Monday is the only real shot you’ve got. After that, it’s back to tiny, unrideable junk. Mark the date.
