The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Bogliasco over the next couple of weeks.

Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it’s looking pretty grim. We’ve got a massive gap here with no real surf to speak of. From now until Monday, August 17th, it’s a flat spell. Yeah, you heard that right. Day after day of nothing but tiny, unridable dribble. The water is a warm 84°, which is a solid 7° warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s very unusual, almost like sitting in a bath, but there’s just no waves to enjoy it in.

We finally see a little pulse of life on Monday, August 17th. The morning brings a small SSW swell around 3 ft with a period of 6 seconds – that’s short period, weak stuff. The combined energy is only 64, so it’s weak. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. The wind is light and cross-offshore, so it’ll be clean, but don’t expect much push. By the afternoon, the wind swings onshore and it gets messy.

Tuesday, August 18th looks a bit better. The morning has a 2 ft SW swell, still short period at 7 seconds, but the real highlight is the clean offshore wind from the north at 12 mph. The energy is still low at 58, but with that offshore wind, the sandbar might offer a few fun little shoulders. It’s not gonna blow your mind, but it’s the best we’ve got in this stretch.

Now, the standout for the whole forecast comes on Thursday, August 20th. This is the one to circle. The morning brings a 6 ft swell from the SW with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 425 – that’s moderate, but solid for this area. The wind is a clean offshore from the north at 12 mph. This will be the best quality surf of the whole outlook. The sandbar should be holding shape, and with that offshore breeze, it’ll be a proper session. Just keep in mind, at 6 ft, it’s starting to get a bit much for absolute beginners, but for anyone with a bit of experience, it’s on.

After that, it fades back to nothing. A few tiny bumps on the 21st and 22nd, but nothing worth paddling out for. The 23rd of August is the same story – small, weak, and onshore in the afternoon.

So, to sum it up: don’t bother for the first week and a half. The only real window is Monday, August 17th for a very average session, Tuesday, August 18th for a clean small wave ride, and the clear winner is Thursday, August 20th. That’s your best bet – get on it.

Rusty.
