The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gonna level with you straight up: if you're looking for a proper surf this next couple of weeks, the Ligurian coast is giving us a whole lot of nothing. The waves are just not showing up. For the first week and a half, from Saturday the 18th all the way through to the end of July, the swell is tiny, the period is short, and the combined energy barely registers a whisper. You're looking at a flat spell with maybe a few knee-high wobbles here and there. It's a grim run, and I don't see any reason to get excited. The area just goes through these quiet periods, and this is one of them.
The only faint glimmer of hope, and I mean *faint*, comes right at the end of the outlook. On Saturday morning, August 1st, Bogliasco might have a pulse. The wind is light offshore from the north, which would clean things right up, and there's a tiny 1.3ft SSW swell with a 5-second period. The combined energy is still weak (7). It's not going to be a classic, but it's the cleanest the water will be. Then, later that same day, the swell bumps up to 2.6ft from the SSW with a 6-second period (energy 40), but it's a cross-onshore wind, so it'll be a bit bumpy. The next morning, Sunday, August 2nd, offers a bit more period (8 seconds) from the SW with a clean offshore wind, but again, the size is only 1.0ft.
To be honest, none of these are standouts. The water temperature is a massive 4.4° warmer than normal, sitting at 82.9°F, which is very unusual and feels more like a bath than the Mediterranean. But with no real swell, you're just floating in warm, flat water. Conditions are more suited to a paddleboard or a swim than a surfboard. For the entire 16-day window, there's nothing worth chasing. Hopefully, a better pattern will set in after this.
