The Lowdown
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s talk about what’s cooking at Bogliasco over the next couple of weeks.
Right now, the ocean is dead flat. The first ten days are a total bust – from Monday 7th September right through to Wednesday 16th September, there’s barely a bump. A few 0.4m or 0.6m swells try to show up, but with periods of 3 to 4 seconds and onshore or cross-onshore breezes, you’re just wasting your time. The water temp is about normal for this time of year. That’s a solid run of more than a week with nothing worth paddling for.
Then, on Friday 18th September morning, we finally get a pulse. That’s the standout window. A 1.5m SW swell comes in with a 6-second period, and the wind is a clean offshore from the north at 10 km/h. The combined energy is moderate (301). The Bogliasco sandbar should handle the southwest direction, and with that light offshore breeze, the surface will be clean. It’s not a big day, but it’s the best we’ve got. The afternoon of the 18th drops to 1.2m and goes glassy – still surfable, but less power.
Saturday 19th September morning hangs on with 1.0m SSW and a cross-offshore breeze, but it’s fading fast. By the afternoon, the wind turns onshore and the swell collapses. After that, it’s back to near-flat conditions for the rest of the 16 days.
So, if you want a wave, mark the morning of Friday 18th September. It’s the only real chance in a long, quiet stretch. The rest of the forecast is a dud. Things can change, but right now, I’d keep your board in the bag.
Rusty.
