Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for the next couple of weeks in our neck of the woods. Honestly, it’s a bit of a slow stretch. The first week and a half is looking pretty flat and not worth paddling out for. We’re talking about a solid 10-day gap with barely a ripple – most of those days the swell energy is down in the single digits. It’s a bit of a bummer.
Things start to show a slight pulse of life on the morning of Sunday, the 19th of July. That’s when we finally see a little 2ft swell from the SSW creeping in with a period of 6 seconds. The energy is still weak. The morning is looking good though – glassy conditions with a light offshore breeze from the E. Things get a touch bigger that afternoon, hitting 2ft from the same direction, but the wind swings onshore from the S, so it won’t be clean.
For the standout in this outlook, you’ve got to be sharp on the morning of Sunday, the 19th at Bogliasco (sandbar). It’s a beginner-friendly spot that’s fairly consistent usually. The swell will be tiny at 2ft from the SSW, which suits the optimum direction for this break, and the wind will be glassy and offshore. That’s your best shot for a clean little wave, even if it’s small. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so nothing odd there.
After that, Monday the 20th brings a similarly small morning – 1ft from the SW with an 8-second period and glassy conditions off a light WNW wind. Still small, but it could be rideable on the right gear. After that, it looks like we sink back into flatness again. It’s a lean period overall, but for those patient enough, the 19th and maybe the 20th morning offer a tiny window. Forecasts are fairly solid this close in, so that’s your best bet. Otherwise, keep the board in the car and hope for a change.
