The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a good look at what’s coming up for us.
First off, we’re in for a bit of a slow period. The water is sitting at 82°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – a solid 8° above average. That’s unusual, but doesn’t do much for the waves.
Right now, and for the next several days, it’s a wasteland. The forecast kicks off with a tiny 0.3m (1ft) SSW swell on Monday afternoon, but it’s coming in with a cross-onshore wind from the SE, and it’s just poor. Nothing to get out of bed for. From there, we’ve got a big gap of essentially no surf worthy of a mention through to the morning of Tuesday, September 9th. That’s a solid 8-9 day stretch with hardly anything rideable.
Then, on the morning of Tuesday, September 9th, we finally see a little pulse. Bogliasco will see a 0.9m (3ft) SSW swell with a 6-second period. The combined wave energy is weak at 60, so it’s not packing much punch. The wind is light and cross-offshore from the NE, which will keep the surface clean. It’s surfable, but very ordinary – a small, weak wave that’s better for a longboard or a funboard. The afternoon goes onshore, so don’t sleep in. This is really the only standout in the whole 16-day window, and it’s not exactly firing.
After that, it drops back to tiny, poor conditions again for the rest of the forecast. The second week of September is looking like a real flat spell. There are some glimpses of very small swell with clean winds, but nothing that cracks a score above a 1. Honestly, if you’re desperate for a paddle, that Tuesday morning on the 9th is your only real shot.
Stay tuned, but don’t hold your breath for anything epic. This is a quiet stretch for the area. Forecasts can change though, so keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
