The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s coming up for the next couple of weeks.
Well, I gotta be straight with you – it’s a pretty grim stretch ahead for Bogliasco. The surf is just not showing up for most of the next 16 days. We’ve got a long gap of really poor conditions, so don’t get your hopes up.
The only glimmer of action comes on Saturday morning, the 22nd of August. We’ll see a 5ft swell from the SSW, with a short period of 8 seconds. The combined swell energy is a moderate 240, so there’s some push there. The water temperature is a very unusual 83°F, which is 7°F warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s a big anomaly. The morning wind is a light offshore from the NNE at 6 mph, so the surf will be clean. It’s surfable, but honestly, it’s very ordinary. This is a beginner-friendly sandbar that’s fairly consistent and sometimes crowded, but for this small, short-period swell, it’s not going to have much shape. The swell direction is SSW, which is not its optimum S direction, so don’t expect anything special.
After that, it’s a desert. Saturday afternoon on the 22nd gets a tiny 3ft swell with a rainy cross-onshore wind. Sunday the 23rd and Monday the 24th are a complete write-off with tiny waves. From Tuesday the 25th of August all the way through to Sunday the 6th of September, the swell is practically non-existent, with most readings showing zero energy. There are a few days with a weak 0.7ft to 1ft bump, but with poor winds and periods of just 3 to 6 seconds, it’s all flat and messy. Not worth paddling out for.
If you’re a kite surfer, the afternoon of Friday the 28th of August might catch your eye with a 5ft SSW swell and a solid 12 mph onshore wind, but for a paddle surfer, that’s just a blown-out, stormy mess.
So, the honest truth is: there’s no standout session here. The best you get is that one clean, average morning on the 22nd. Take it or leave it, but don’t hold your breath for the rest of the forecast.
Rusty.
