The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' for Bogliasco over the next couple of weeks. I'll be straight with you – it's a pretty quiet stretch, so don't go getting your hopes up too high.
Right now, the water is feeling more like a warm bath at 28°, which is *much warmer* than we'd normally expect for this time of year. That's a real oddity.
Honestly, for the first week and a half, it's pretty grim. We're looking at a whole lot of nothing, with maybe a few scraps of waist-high swell, but the wind is constantly messing it up. Through the end of August and into the first days of September, the swell energy is mostly weak, with readings in the single and low double digits. You'll see the odd pulse, like on Saturday the 29th of August morning, where we get a jump to 2.1m SSW swell, but the wind is cross-onshore and the energy (749) is actually pretty strong. But with that wind, it's going to be a messy, choppy mess. That's more of a kite-surfing day than anything for a paddle board.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel, though. After a real dry spell from the 31st of August right through until the 7th of September, when there's practically no swell at all, we start to see a pulse. It's not world-class, but it's the best we've got. On Tuesday the 8th of September, the morning is looking like the standout window. We've got a clean, gentle offshore wind from the N, with a 0.9m SSW swell. The period is 7 seconds, so it's a short-period wind swell, but with that offshore airflow it'll be clean and surfable. The combined energy is 90, so it's weak, but it's the most promising moment in the whole outlook. After that, it fades right back out to flatness.
So, if you're desperate for a paddle, the morning of Tuesday the 8th of September at Bogliasco is your best bet. It'll be small and weak, but at least it won't be blown out. Keep an eye on the charts, because this long-range call is promising but less certain. For now, the rest of the fortnight is a write-off.
