The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Tough beat for the next couple of weeks, mate – Bogliasco is lookin’ pretty flat with nothin’ worth paddling out for. The whole 16-day window is a real struggle, a long stretch of tiny to no swell, so if you’re desperate for a wave, you might be better off with a longboard and a lot of patience. The water’s sittin’ at 81°F, which is a full 7°F warmer than what’s normal for this time of year – feels like a warm bathtub out there, really unusual.
We start off Wednesday the 2nd with a pathetic 0.3ft of swell out of the west, period a weak 6 seconds, combined energy of just 3 – proper flat. Thursday the 3rd morning has a little 0.3ft from the southwest but at least the wind’s offshore from the NNE at 3 mph, so it’s clean even if there’s nothin’ to ride. The afternoon picks up to 0.9ft from the southwest, but the wind’s cross-onshore, makin’ it messy with small ripples. Friday the 4th is a write-off with 0.3ft and cross-off shore flows, then Saturday the 5th is scratchy with 0.6ft and cross-shore wind bumps. Sunday the 6th has a clean 0.6ft under light offshore winds from the north, but it’s still just knee-high dribble.
Monday the 7th through Tuesday the 8th is completely flat – zero energy, all zeros in the combined energy column, so don’t even bother leavin’ the house. Wednesday the 9th brings a slight pulse, 3ft from the south with a 6-second period and energy of 72, but there’s risk of thunderstorms and cross-shore winds spoilin’ it, so it’s still poor. Thursday the 10th morning is the best it gets – 3ft from the southwest, 8-second period, combined energy up to 75, and a solid offshore wind from the north at 9 mph. That’s clean, but it’s barely surfable and the conditions are ordinary. The afternoon drops off to 0.9ft. Friday the 11th morning has another 3ft from the southwest, 7-second period, energy of 65, and offshore winds, but again, it’s nothin’ special.
From Saturday the 12th onwards, it’s back to flat or 0.3ft scraps through to Thursday the 17th, with only a brief 0.3ft showing on the 17th afternoon. No standout days – the best shot is Thursday the 10th and Friday the 11th mornings for some clean, small ankle-to-knee-high waves, but don’t expect much. Bogliasco’s a sandbar that’s fairly consistent normally, so this blank run is a bit of a bummer, but forecasts can change.
Rusty.
