The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's cut straight to it. I've scanned the charts for our local stretch, and honestly, it's a pretty quiet picture. There are no good surf options in this 16-day window for us. The energy just isn't there to get anything worthwhile breaking.
Looking at the data, most of the time the swell is tiny or flat, and when there's a little bump, the wind or conditions are against us. This kind of blank run, while frustrating, isn't unusual for this area.
The only pulse of any note comes on Friday 18 September morning. We'll see a small bump from the SSW pushing in around 3 ft, but with a short period of just 6 seconds, it's going to be weak and lacking any punch. The combined wave energy is only moderate at best (75). The wind is swinging light cross-offshore from the ENE though, which will keep it clean. It's surfable, but it's a real grinder. Bogliasco is a sandbar, so the short period swell won't have much shape to it.
The water temperature is a massive 4° warmer than normal, sitting at 79°, which is very unusual for this time of year.
After that, the plug gets pulled. From Saturday 19 September until the 29th, the numbers flatline at zero or nothing of any real size. The morning of Tuesday 30 September has a clean, moderate offshore wind from the N at 12 mph, but the swell is only 1 ft with an 8-second period and energy readings in the teens. It's barely a ripple.
So, to sum it up: don't hold your breath. The next week and a half is a write-off for getting wet. Keep the board in the car just in case, but the forecast is what it is.
Rusty.
