The Lowdown
Hey crew, Rusty checking in. Let's get real about the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it's a tough sit. We've got a massive dry spell from now all the way through to Sunday, August 16th. For more than ten days, the ocean is gonna be flat or just offering tiny, gutless bumps that aren't worth paddling for. It's gonna be a long stretch of empty beach walks.
We finally see a little pulse on Monday morning, August 17th, at Bogliasco (sandbar). There will be about 3ft of swell from the SSW. The energy is still weak (78), and the period is short at 6 seconds, so don't expect any power. The wind will be light and cross-shore, keeping the surface clean, but it's a real scraper's session.
The only true standout in this whole outlook, and the best chance for a decent wave, lands on Thursday morning, August 20th. The swell pushes up to a solid 4ft from the SSW with an 8-second period. The combined energy is a moderate 217, so there's finally some push behind it. The wind will be light and cross-onshore from the SE. It won't be glassy perfection, but after the flat spell we're in, this is the session to circle on your calendar. For beginners, 4ft is pushing the limit, so know your limits.
Water temp is pretty standard for the season, nothing crazy. It's a long wait, but things can always change. Stay tuned.
