Capo Bianco (Elba) Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the menu for Capo Bianco on Elba over the next couple of weeks.

First off, I gotta be straight with you: it’s bleak. A long stretch of flat days and tiny, weak waves. The water temp is sitting at a very toasty 82° on Wednesday, which is 8° warmer than average for this time of year – that’s freakishly warm, like bathwater. But that’s about the only highlight for a while.

From Wednesday 2 September right through to Tuesday 15 September, you’re looking at a near-total drought. We’re talking zero combined swell energy for days on end, with the odd blip of 1 to 10 on the energy scale (combined energy of all swells directed here). That’s nothing. No height, no power. The conditions are clean and glassy at times, especially Sunday afternoon 6 September when the wind goes glass and Monday 7 September is calm and glassy too, but with no swell whatsoever, it’s a flat calm ocean. There’s a tiny pulse on Wednesday 9 September—0.7 ft to 1.0 ft from the WNW with a period around 7 seconds and a clean offshore wind—but the energy is still pitiful (9 is the best it gets). That’s not surfable.

Now, if you’re hanging on for something, you’ll need to wait until the very end of the forecast. On Sunday 13 September, finally a hint of life. Morning shows the best swell of the whole window: 2 ft from the WNW, period 7 seconds, and the combined energy hits 40 (still weak, but it’s something). The wind is a light cross-offshore from the ESE, so it’ll be clean. This spot, Capo Bianco (Elba), is a point break but it rarely breaks, so the fact that it’s showing any pulse at all is notable. The afternoon keeps a 2 ft offering with a clean offshore from the S, energy at 25. For a spot that’s mostly flat, this is your best shot. But let’s be real, 2 ft is tiny, and with a period of 7 seconds, you’ll be on a fun-sized mal or a log. Crowds can pop up here sometimes, but on a day this small, you’ll have it quiet.

After that, Monday 14 September and Tuesday 15 September drop right back to nothing again. Thursday 17 September has a clean offshore wind (SSW at 12 mph) but only 0.3 ft of swell. So really, the only game in town is that Sunday 13 September. It’s not a standout by any stretch, but it’s all we’ve got. If you’re desperate for a paddle, that’s the day.

Otherwise, the whole 16-day window is a write-off. Not much you can do but wait for the next system to roll in.
