Porto Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, Rusty here again, looking at the same stretch of coast. Let's cut the miles and talk feet, because that's what we do. It’s a tough outlook, I won’t lie. The next 16 days at Porto are mostly flat as a lake, with only a couple of tiny bumps that will have you squinting to see if it’s a wave or just a ripple.

The first tiny pulse arrives on the morning of Thursday the 10th. We've got about 3ft of south swell, but it's short-period, only 4 seconds, so it’s going to be a jumbled mess. The energy is weak, coming in at 43, and with a thunderstorm risk and cross-shore winds, this is one to skip.

Friday the 11th morning looks slightly better organised. The swell settles to around 3ft from the west-southwest, with the period pushing up to 6 seconds. The energy is a bit higher at 76, and a lighter cross-onshore breeze leaves the surface a bit bumpy, but it could be rideable for a fun one if you’re desperate.

Now for the grim part—a proper flat spell from Saturday the 12th afternoon right through to Thursday the 17th morning. There’s nothing on the cards. Clean, glassy mornings will tease you, but the swell is either zilch or just 0.3ft to 0.7ft. That’s a long dry stretch where the only thing you’ll be surfing is the internet.

We get the faintest hiccup of life on Thursday the 17th morning—a pathetic 0.7ft of west-northwest windswell with a 4-second period. It’s barely moving, with an energy value of 2. Friday the 18th has clean offshore winds, but again, there’s no swell to push through.

One thing that is worth noting for the first few days: the water is unnaturally warm. On that first mention, it’s 82°, which is about 8° warmer than it should be for this time of year. That is a massive anomaly, so you can go in with boardies and a smile.

Looking into the latter half of the window, Sunday the 20th and Monday the 21st offer the final glimpses of hope. Both mornings show a tiny 0.7ft of south swell, with a 5-second period. The winds look clean and offshore, but the energy is a meagre 3. These are barely breaking, and with Porto being exposed to the southwest, this direction is right, but the size just isn’t there.

There are no standout sessions here, no hidden gems. It’s flat-out flat. With this warm water and almost no swell, it’s more of a swim than a surf. If it manages to blow, those kitesurfers might be the only ones getting wet and having fun. Stick it out; these things can change, but for now, keep the board in the car and the hopes low.
