Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – looking at Hakalau for the next couple of weeks, it’s a bit of a flat spell. The surf just isn’t cooperating.
We kick off on Saturday, July 4th with a weak 4ft NE windswell, only 8 seconds between waves and pretty weak energy levels (352). The wind is blowing straight onshore from the ENE at 9 mph, and with rain showers in the mix, it’s just not worth paddling out. That same story runs right through the first week. We get little pulses of swell, none of them topping 6ft, but the wind stays stubbornly onshore or cross-onshore from the east. The wave period is short, hovering around 7 or 8 seconds, meaning weak, bumpy lines. The combined energy stays mostly in the 200 to 400 range, which is weak to moderate at best. Every single session is marked "poor surf conditions" or "marginal" at best. There are zero standouts here.
Into the second week, nothing changes. Monday the 13th through to Saturday the 18th is more of the same: 4ft to 6ft of short-period windswell, with that persistent onshore or cross-onshore breeze. The best we see is on Saturday the 18th afternoon when the swell bumps up to 6ft from the east at 9 seconds, with energy hitting 502 (moderate), but the wind is still cross-onshore. Even then, it’s only rated as "marginal." Honestly, this whole period looks more interesting for kite surfing than for paddle surfing, given the consistent wind and messy waves.
For the entire 16-day outlook, there are no recommended days. No clean glass, no proper groundswell. Just a long stretch of poor to marginal conditions.
Rusty, signing off.
