The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get into it.
Well, truth be told, this is a tough stretch for Foz do Lizandro. For the next week and a half, we are looking at a whole lot of nothing. It's a grim run of small, weak, and messy conditions. The wind is almost always either cross or cross-onshore, and bumpy, lumpy chop is the name of the game. From Wednesday the 19th all the way through to Monday the 31st of August, the surf is flat out poor. You'd be wasting your time.
We do see a pulse of bigger energy showing up around Wednesday the 26th, with the combined swell energy climbing into the moderate range (364) and swell heights around 5ft. But don't get too excited. The wind is a moderate cross-onshore, and the whole event is written off as "poor surf conditions." It'll be a wind-blown mess at a river mouth, which isn't ideal.
The real stand-out, and the only time I'd even think about paddling out, comes on Monday the 31st of August. A solid groundswell moves in from the NW at 6ft to 7ft, with the period stretching out to 10 seconds. The combined energy jumps right up to strong levels (600-883). The morning looks like it might be a bit of a washout with cross-on wind and a "marginal" call, but the afternoon has clear skies and a lighter onshore breeze. The data says it's actually *too big* for this spot, but for you experienced locals who know how to handle a river mouth when it's pushing, that afternoon could offer the only real waves of the entire forecast. At 7ft with decent period, it's strictly for those who know what they're doing though. Beginners, stay well clear.
Water temp is sitting around 68°, which is pretty standard for this time of year, so nothing to write home about there.
So, to sum it up: you're waiting until Monday the 31st of August. That's your only real shot at something worth the paddle, and even then, it's a tricky, powerful swell for experts only.
Rusty.
