Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's on the table for the next couple of weeks.
Well, I gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch ahead. The short-term forecast is pretty grim, and we’ve got a long wait before anything even remotely fun shows up. For the first couple of weeks, it’s just a whole lot of nothing. There’s a long gap with no real recommendations, so you’re looking at a lean period.
The only spot on the radar is Foz do Lizandro (Portugal). It’s a river mouth setup, exposed to the southwest, which is the direction it likes best. The water temp is sitting around 65.7°F, which is pretty normal for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The real kicker is, we’ve got a tiny window of something to surf on the morning of Saturday, July 4th. The swell is a mere 2.0ft from the WNW, but the wind goes glassy – light and offshore from the NW. That’s a major positive. It’s going to be clean, but with only 2.0ft of swell, it’s small and weak, with wave energy only around 76 (weak). The swell period is 11 seconds, which is a bit of groundswell, so it’ll have a little more push than a typical windswell, but it’s still tiny. This is the only real standout, and it’s a mellow one for beginners. Being a river mouth, it might handle that longer period better than a beach break. Keep in mind, crowds are sometimes an issue here.
After that? It’s all downhill. From Sunday, July 5th, all the way through to Saturday, July 18th, the forecast is a mess of poor surf conditions. Strong cross-shore winds, small, weak, and choppy waves. The swell barely gets above 1.6ft, and when it does, like on the 18th, it’s accompanied by a fresh onshore breeze. The wave energy on the 18th hits 110 to 117 (moderate), but the wind is cross-onshore, so it’ll be blown out. Honestly, for a beach-and-river setup like this, those conditions look more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
So, wrap your head around this: the only real chance for a decent surf is a brief, clean window on the morning of July 4th. It’s small, but it’s the best we’ve got. The rest of the 16-day outlook is a write-off. Hang in there.
