The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Foz do Lizandro over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a bleak stretch, mate. We’re lookin’ at a real flat spell with barely a wave worth paddlin’ for, and the wind’s just makin’ it worse. The water temp is sittin’ around 68°, which is pretty much about average for this time of year, but that ain’t gonna make up for the lack of swell.
First up, Thursday the 20th and Friday the 21st – total write-offs. We got tiny little 2ft to 1ft slop, mostly from the WNW, with periods around 8 to 9 seconds, and the wind is either cross-on or cross. The combined energy is pitiful, 44 to 62 (weak). Just messy, choppy garbage. Don’t even bother.
Saturday the 22nd isn’t any better. Still tiny 2ft, still cross-onshore winds. The water’s gonna be bumpy and small. Not worth the wax.
Right, there’s a glimmer on Sunday the 23rd. The morning shows a pulse of 6ft swell from the WNW with an 11-second period, and the wind is cross-offshore – that means clean faces. The combined energy jumps to 880 (strong), but the forecast says “marginal surf forecast or questionable tide conditions”. So, it’s a maybe. That’s the only real chance in this whole window, but it’s not a dead-set guarantee. Crowds are “sometimes” here anyway.
From Sunday afternoon onwards, it’s back to poor conditions. Monday the 24th has a bump to 8ft, but it’s a short-period 8-second swell with strong cross-onshore winds. That’s gonna be a choppy, blown-out mess – more for the kite crew than us. Combined energy is 726 (strong), but the quality is just not there.
Tuesday the 25th through to Wednesday the 4th of September is just a long, sad run of tiny to small waves with poor winds. Most of the time it’s cross-on or cross, and the swell’s too small or weak. The last day, Friday the 4th, is dead flat: 0.3ft. Glassy in the morning but with zero swell.
To be fair, Foz do Lizandro is a consistent spot at times, but this 16-day run is a total dud. There’s one maybe-morning on Sunday the 23rd, and that’s it. The rest is for the sunbakers.
Rusty.
