The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for the next stretch.
Honestly, mate, I’m looking at this forecast and it’s a tough one. We’ve got Fort Pierce North Jetty, and for the next two weeks, the surf is just not showing up. It’s going to be a real flat spell. There’s a solid gap right from the start with no surf worth paddling for. You’re looking at day after day of tiny, weak waves.
The first few days, Monday the 13th through Tuesday the 14th, are basically flat. We’re talking 0.7 ft of easterly slop with a short, weak period around 8 seconds. The energy readings are in the single digits – 7 and 9 – just pathetic. Winds are light and mostly cross-off or onshore, but there’s nothing to ride.
Wednesday the 15th morning, the swell tries to nudge up a bit to 1 ft from the NE, period only 7 seconds. Energy hits 19, still junk. But it’s glassy, which is a tease. That’s about the best the whole outlook gets, and it’s still a poor surf call.
From Thursday the 16th right through to the end of the month, the 28th of July, it’s the same story. Swell heights rarely top 2 ft, most days are 0.7 ft to 1 ft. Periods are all over the place – some 4 second wind slop, some 8 or 9 seconds – but the combined energy stays weak under 100 for most of it. The only time it breaks into the triple digits is Tuesday the 28th afternoon, hitting 113 from an easterly 3 ft swell... but that’s still poor surf conditions with a moderate cross-onshore wind making it choppy. Not a day to get excited about.
The water temp is sitting at a warm 86°, which is about average for this time of year. Nothing unusual there.
For the whole 16-day window, there is no standout. Nothing even comes close to being good. The surf quality is consistently rated as poor. If you’re determined to get wet, the best you’ll get is that Wednesday 15th morning glass-off, but you’ll be fighting 1 ft of inconsiderable energy. It’s far more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer given the persistent onshore breeze later in the period.
That’s the reality for Fort Pierce North Jetty right now. We’re in a flat spell, and it’s going to take a while for things to turn around.
