The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's shaping up.

Honestly, for the next two weeks, it's pretty flat out there. We've got a solid run of days with nothing much to get excited about. The first real chance of anything worthwhile doesn't pop up until the very end of the window.

Right now, going into Tuesday the 15th, it's all small, weak, and onshore. The water temperature is sitting at 86°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. But with the wind coming from the SSE at 12 mph and cross-on, it's just messy. Swell is a tiny 3 ft from the SSE with a short period of 5 seconds and weak energy (48). That's not surf, that's just bump.

That pattern basically holds through the rest of September. We get a little bump in energy on the 18th, but it's still cross-on and choppy. The morning of the 24th actually cleans up with a light NNE cross-off breeze, but there's almost no swell to work with. The 25th morning has another clean window, same story.

The only real pulse of energy arrives right at the end of the forecast period. On Monday the 28th, the afternoon shows a 3 ft swell from the east with a 8-second period and moderate wave energy (128). That's the start of something. Then Tuesday the 29th picks up steam: morning has 3 ft from the east with energy climbing to 153, and by the afternoon it's 4 ft from the east with energy jumping to 338. That's a notable jump. The issue is the wind is cranking from the east at 16 mph and cross-on, so it'll be choppy and hard to enjoy. Then Wednesday the 30th morning brings a strong NNE wind at 25 mph, but it's cross-off, so it'll be clean. The swell holds at 3 ft from the ESE with energy at 127. That Wednesday morning might be the best of a tough run, but with that wind strength, it's more of a windsurfing or kiteboarding proposition than a clean paddle session.

Fish Pass Jetty is a beach/jetty setup and fairly exposed, but the combination of onshore wind and small, weak swells just doesn't give us anything to work with for the vast majority of this outlook. The crowds at Fish Pass Jetty can be an issue sometimes, but with conditions like these, it'll be empty anyway.

So, to sum it up: a long stretch of almost nothing, with the only real swell showing up in the final few days of September, but it's got wind issues. Keep an eye on that Wednesday the 30th morning for a potential clean, if windy, session.

Rusty.
