The Lowdown
Alright, my friends, Rusty here, and I’m not gonna sugarcoat it—this is a rough stretch. The surf is practically non-existent for the next week and a half.
We’re staring down a long, dry gap. From right now all the way through the end of July, there’s nothing worth your time. Tiny surf, wind blowing sideways or onshore, and just a whole lot of nothing. The water is a warm 84°F, which is pretty normal for the season, so at least a swim won’t be cold. But you’ll be floating, not surfing.
The first pulse of swell doesn’t even show up until Monday, July 28th, and it’s a tough one. The morning at Fish Pass Jetty sees a bump to 6ft from the southeast. The combined energy climbs to 602 (moderate wave energy), so there’s some weight behind it. But the wind is a cross-onshore breeze at 15 mph, making it choppy and messy. The period is only 7 seconds, so it’s a weak, short-period wind swell. This is not the clean, glassy stuff you want. It’s rough. With that wind and the beach/jetty setup, it looks more like a kite-surfing day than a paddle-surfing one.
For the rest of the week and into early August, it’s more of the same. The swell stays around waist-high, but the wind keeps coming onshore or cross-onshore, ruining any chance of a clean wave. The energy stays weak, and the period is short. It’s just not good.
Honestly, there’s no standout day in this entire 16-day outlook. The only time the swell gets big enough to be interesting (6ft) is completely blown out. If you’re really itching, you might find a chance on the morning of the 28th, but don’t expect much. It’s a rare quiet spell for this area, but it never stays dead for long.
Rusty, out.
