Alright folks, Rusty here – let’s keep it real. Fish Pass Jetty is a total dud for the next 16 days. Every single session in the data comes back as poor surf conditions, score zero. This break is fairly consistent, but what it’s consistent at is being small, weak and blown out. There’s not a day worth getting wet.
From Tuesday 7 July all the way through to Wednesday 22 July, swell barely reaches 4–5 ft (max 1.4m = about 5 ft). Most of the time it’s 2–3 ft, from the SSE to SE with a short period of 4–7 seconds – pure windswell, weak and mushy. Winds are almost always cross‑onshore or onshore from the south, so it’s choppy. The only brief reprieve is Tuesday 14 July morning when it goes glassy with a light WSW breeze at 3 mph, but the swell is only 3 ft at 6 seconds and combined energy is just 69 (weak). Not worth the drive.
Later in the second week the swell lifts a little – Saturday 18 July morning sees 4 ft from the SSE at 6 seconds, but the wind is cross‑onshore at 12 mph, so it’s lumpy. By Wednesday 22 July morning it’s 5 ft from the SSE at 6 seconds, combined energy 123 (moderate), but the wind is a fresh cross‑onshore at 16 mph. That’s kite‑surfing weather, not paddle surfing – the beach/jetty setup with onshore wind and short‑period chop is just messy.
A blank run like this is pretty normal for this area in July. The break is fairly consistent in that it never goes totally flat, but what’s on offer isn’t surfable. Keep the board in the truck and wait for a proper swell. Forecasts can change, but right now there’s nothing.
Rusty.
