The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this forecast is a total blank. There’s nothing worth paddling out for in the entire 16-day window at Fish Pass Jetty. Every single day is tagged as poor surf conditions, and honestly, the numbers back that up.
We’re looking at weak, short-period wind swell from the SE, with combined energy reading mostly in the double digits – peaking around 161 (moderate) on Friday the 17th, but the wind is onshore and the period is a dismal 6 seconds. That’s just messy, choppy, and gutless. The water temp is a warm 84°F with a normal anomaly for this time of year, but that’s the only nice thing I can say.
For the first week, from Monday the 13th right through to Sunday the 20th, the onshore and cross-onshore winds are a constant problem – 12 to 19 mph from the S, SSE, and SE. That’s junk. The swell never gets above 5 ft, and with a period of 5 to 7 seconds, it’s all wind chop. Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th see the energy nudge up a bit, but don’t be fooled – it’s still poor quality, onshore wind, and risk of thunderstorms mid-week.
After that, from Monday the 21st through to Tuesday the 28th of July, the energy drops off a cliff. We’re talking 27 to 56 combined energy, swell heights below 3 ft, and period dropping to 5 seconds. The wind stays fresh and onshore. This is not surf. This is a lake with a breeze. If you’re a kite surfer, the constant cross-onshore wind might get you going, but for a paddle surfer, there’s zero reason to get wet.
This is a blank run, and for this area, it’s not that unusual. It tends not to stay this poor forever, but for now, the forecast is a hard pass. Save your wax.
Rusty.
