The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down Fish Pass Jetty. The outlook is flat and quiet across the full 16 days. Don’t expect any real waves to ride.

Starting Monday, August 24th, we’ve got tiny swell at about 1 ft, coming out of the southeast with a short period of 4 seconds. The wave energy is weak (9). Wind is onshore from the southeast at 12 mph, so the surf is small and choppy. Water temps are around 86°, running a touch warmer than average for this time of year – nothing wild, but you’ll feel it.

Through Tuesday the 25th and Wednesday the 26th, swell bumps up to 2 ft, still from the SSE or SE, periods of 5 seconds. Winds stay cross-onshore or onshore, light to moderate. It’s all poor conditions – small, lumpy, not worth getting wet for.

Thursday the 27th and Friday the 28th, the swell drops back to 2 ft, period down to 4 seconds, wave energy in the teens. Saturday the 29th is the same – tiny waves, onshore breezes. No clean windows.

Sunday the 30th through Monday the 31st, nothing changes. Still 2 ft, short period, onshore winds. Energy climbs a little into the 20s, but it’s still poor. Tuesday the 1st of September to Wednesday the 2nd, same story. Thursday the 3rd brings a fresh breeze from the east-southeast at 22 mph, but the swell stays tiny at 2 ft – windy and useless.

The final days from Friday the 4th to Tuesday the 8th of September see the swell creeping up to 3 ft, period hitting 6 seconds. The wave energy maxes out at 71 on Sunday the 6th morning, but the wind stays onshore or cross-onshore, and every report says “poor surf conditions.” No clean faces, no quality.

Nothing to get excited about. No standout days. Beginners might find something in the lighter morning wind for knee-high splashes, but that’s the best I can say. This is a big dry spell – the whole 16 days is a bust. Fish Pass is usually fairly consistent, so a flat run like this is uncommon, but forecasts can shift.

Rusty.
