The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the local stretch.

To be honest, it’s a pretty grim outlook for the next couple of weeks. The swell is just not showing up with any real energy, and the wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, messing up what little there is. The only spot with any kind of forecast is Fish Pass Jetty, but even that’s a tough sell.

The first real chance of anything surfable kicks off on the morning of the 11th of September. A new swell starts to build, pushing 5.2 ft from the SE with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy climbs to a moderate 234, but the wind is a light cross-shore from the SSW, which will keep it a little cleaner than usual. The real standout, though, looks like the morning of the 12th of September. The swell hits 6.6 ft from the SE, with energy ramping up to a strong 363. The wind is light from the S, making it cross-onshore but still light enough that it won’t be too choppy. That’s the biggest and best combo on offer, though with a period of 7 seconds, it’s not going to be the most lined-up ride. The water temp is about average for the time of year.

Now, into the second week, the 14th of September Monday morning has a solid 5.2 ft SE swell with a period of 7 seconds and a very strong energy reading of 406, but the wind is onshore from the SE, so it’ll be a messy, blown-out wave. Not one to get excited about. Then, on the 15th of September Tuesday morning, the swell drops right back to 2.3 ft from the SE, but the wind goes glassy from the WNW. It’ll be tiny, clean, and perfect for a beginner or a longboard, but it’s really just a small wave.

The rest of the days are all poor surf conditions with tiny swell and rubbish wind. It’s a long wait for a few decent sessions. The best of the bunch is definitely the morning of the 12th of September at Fish Pass Jetty, but even that’s not a world-beater. Keep your expectations low, and if the wind switches, you might get a surprise.
