The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty, and I’m lookin’ at the charts for Fish Pass Jetty. I gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch ahead. The whole 16-day window is practically a write-off for decent waves. We’re talkin’ a full two weeks and more of nothing that’s really worth paddling out for.
The water's sittin' real warm at 85°, which is about normal for this time of year, so at least you won't be cold while you're staring at the flatness.
The problem is the wind. It’s locked in from the SSE and SE, which is onshore or cross-onshore for this beach/jetty setup, and it’s choppy or lumpy nearly every day. The swell is tiny, mostly under 3ft, and coming from the S or SSE with short periods of 4 to 6 seconds – that’s just wind slop, not real surf. The combined energy of all swells directed here is weak, barely cracking 100 (19 to 106), so there’s no power in the water.
There’s a bit of a spike on Thursday afternoon, the 23rd of July, with a 6ft SSE swell, but the wind is a fresh 22 mph cross-onshore. That’s going to be a washed-out, lumpy mess. Too big for the conditions, and honestly, it’d be more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer. The rest of the time, the "poor surf conditions" tag is all you need to know.
There’s no standout day. No clean, glassy windows. No groundswell. Just a long, flat spell where the forecast could change, but right now, there’s nothing to get excited about.
