The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again, this time in the old measures.
It’s a grim outlook for Fish Pass Jetty. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with no surf worth mentioning. The water temp sits at about 84°F – pretty standard for the time of year. From Sunday 9th August all the way through the afternoon of Monday 24th August, the reports are all “poor surf conditions.” That’s a solid two weeks plus of nothing happening.
Let’s break it down. On Sunday 9th, you’ve got a tiny 2ft SE swell, but it’s short period at 5 seconds. The wind is cross-on at 12 mph, making it choppy. Wave energy is weak (18). Not inviting.
Through the week, the swell lifts a bit. Monday 10th to Wednesday 12th sees 3ft to 4ft, but that period stays short (5-6 seconds). The wind is onshore from the SSE or SE at 9-19 mph, keeping things lumpy. Energy climbs to a moderate 91-105, but quality is zero. It’s more of a windsurf/kite day than a surf day.
The second week is more of the same. From Thursday 14th to Monday 24th August, the swell is tiny, ranging from 1ft to 4ft, all with short periods (4-7 seconds). Wind stays onshore. There is one morning on Monday 24th where the wind goes glassy, but with only a 2ft, 4-second swell and weak energy of 17, it's barely a ripple. This break is a beach/jetty setup, and it needs a proper clean swell to work.
This is a very quiet stretch. A blank run like this can happen here. Keep your gear ready, but don’t go out of your way.
