The Lowdown

Alright, grab your board, but maybe leave it in the car for this one. It’s looking pretty flat and gutless out here for the next couple of weeks.

Honestly, the whole 16-day window is a bust. We’re looking at a run of weak, short-period wind swell with onshore and cross-onshore winds messing up what little is there. The swell energy is almost non-existent, with values mostly in the low double digits to mid-70s, which is about as weak as it gets. This isn't a case of a few bad days; it's a solid stretch of nothing, and that blank run is pretty normal for this area when the trade winds just don’t line up.

Looking at the first day, Saturday the 15th, Fish Pass Jetty is seeing a little 4ft of swell, but it’s from the SE with a period of only 6 seconds. That’s just choppy, messy wind slop, and with the wind blowing on at 12 mph, it’s going to be a messy one. The water temp is 85°, which is about average for this time of year.

The rest of the week is more of the same. We're talking ankle to knee-high dribble at best, with the swell never really pushing past 3ft and periods staying below 7 seconds. Winds are mostly moderate breezes from the S and SE, keeping things lumpy and uninviting. If the swell is over 5ft it might be too big for beginners, but we won't even get close to that.

Into the second week, the pattern holds. There's a slight bump on Monday the 24th and Tuesday the 25th, but it’s still small, short-period, and won't have any power behind it. The combination of weak energy, poor waves, and onshore winds on a beach/jetty setup like this honestly looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. It’s that poor.

Look, I’m not going to sugarcoat it. There are no standouts here. Not a single day in the entire forecast window that I’d tell you to paddle out for. Keep your board in the rack, check the charts again next week, and maybe work on your pop-up at home. Forecasts can change, but this one's looking grim.

Rusty.
