The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for the next stretch.
Well, I gotta be straight with you – this is a tough run. We're looking at nothing but poor surf conditions across the entire 16-day window at Fish Pass Jetty. The first day showing any swell at all kicks off on Saturday the 25th of July, but it's just not happening. The wave energy is weak across the board, and we go from just 37 on Saturday morning up to a moderate 124 on the 5th of August Wednesday morning, but even that comes with the same "poor surf conditions" tag.
The problem here is that the wind is almost always onshore or cross-onshore, keeping everything chopped up. The swell heights max out at a tiny 3ft, and the periods are short, around 5 to 6 seconds, so there's no power behind 'em. From the 25th of July all the way through to the 9th of August, it's just a flat, bumpy mess. The water temp is a warm 84°, about average for this time of year, but you won't be caring about that when you're sitting on a groveler in junk.
Honestly, this looks more interesting for a kite than a paddle, if you've got the gear. There are no standouts here, no hidden gems. We get one glassy moment on the morning of Sunday the 2nd of August, with 2ft of S swell, but the comment is still poor. A blank run like this is just how it goes here sometimes – the region goes quiet, and you wait for a change. Forecasts can shift, but right now, it's a long stretch of nothing.
Rusty.
