The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this 16-day window for Fish Pass Jetty is a total dud. There’s not a single session worth paddling out for. The whole run is flat, choppy, and blown out.
We start from Thursday, July 16th, and it’s all downhill. The swell is tiny, mostly around 0.7 ft to 4 ft, with a short, weak period of 4 to 6 seconds, and onshore winds from the SSE or SE howling at 12 to 16 mph. The combined wave energy is pathetic, sitting in the double digits most of the time (72 to 102), so there’s no power behind it. The water temp is a warm 83°F, which is about average for the time of year, but you won’t care because the surf is junk.
The wind stays onshore, cross-onshore, or just plain messy right through to July 31st. There’s no standout, no pulse, no hope. The only break on offer, Fish Pass Jetty, is a beach/jetty setup that’s fairly consistent but with this small, weak, onshore slop, it’s not even worth a look. The short period means the waves are just bumpy, close-out shorebreak. If you’re a kite surfer, the steady onshore breeze might get you excited, but for paddle surfing, it’s a hard pass.
We’re looking at a solid 16 days of nothing. The pattern is locked in, but hey, it’s not always this quiet around here. Forecasts can change, so don’t lose hope entirely. For now, leave the boards in the shed.
