The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you – the outlook for Fish Pass Jetty over the next 16 days is a tough one. We've got a long stretch of small, weak, and messy conditions staring us down. The first decent bit of energy doesn't show up until we're well into the second week, so patience is the name of the game.

Right now, through the first week, it's a write-off. We're looking at tiny swell under 3 ft with a short, weak period of just 5 seconds, coming from the SSE. The wind is mostly onshore or cross-on, keeping things choppy and poor. The combined energy is pitiful – we're talking values like 48 and 35, which is barely a ripple. Honestly, the water temp is about what you'd expect for this time of year, but with surf this flat, you won't be in it long enough to care.

There's a glimmer of hope starting around the 12th of September. The swell finally bumps up, hovering around 4 ft to 5 ft, and the period stretches to 6 seconds. The combined energy kicks into triple digits, hitting 115 and 152 on the 12th and 13th, which is at least some moderate wave energy. It's still coming from the SE and SSE, which is okay for this spot. But here's the kicker – the wind is still onshore, blowing at 12 to 15 mph. That's going to keep it bumpy and unruly. It's not a standout, it's just the best of a bad lot. For a confident surfer, the 13th of September morning might offer the most push, but you'll be battling the chop.

The end of the run, from the 15th onward, sees the swell drop back down to 3 ft or less, and the wind turns more cross-on from the east, making it choppy again. The energy drops back into the double digits. It's a long, flat, and frustrating outlook.

For a break like Fish Pass Jetty that's a beach/jetty setup, this kind of blank run is more normal than not. It's a waiting game.

Keep an eye on the forecast, 'cause it can't stay this poor forever.

Rusty.
