Fish Pass Jetty Surf Guide

Fish Pass Jetty in Texas is a fairly exposed beach/Jetty break that has reasonably consistent surf. The best conditions for surfing are during the hurricane season. Offshore winds blow from the northwest. Waves more likely to be from local windswells than distant groundswells and the ideal wave direction is from the southeast. The beach break provides left and right handers. Good surf at all stages of the tide. When the surf is up, it can get quite busy in the water. Watch out for rips, obstacles, sharks and jellyfish.

Paul Orchard from United States
“A pair of jetties at the northern end of Mustang Island State Park. The predominant wave breaks on the north side of the north jetty. Currents and winds affect the break differently depending on the time of year, although the idea for this spot is basically the same. When the wave is breaking at the end of the jetty it is a fast peeling right. The wave is best in the head-high range. Anything more and it closes out. Surfing between the jetties closes out at about head high. The south side only works when there is a southbound current. This is a great spot to longboard when the surf is in the knee high range. It is the most finicky spot on the island, and hard to judge. It is lonely, few people surf there because of the drive. You will have plenty of tourists and fishermen hanging around the rocks though. Bring food or water; it's 17 miles to the nearest store.”
