The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it. This stretch from August 4th right through to the 19th is a real tough one for the shores around Meacom Pier. Honestly, there’s not a single standout session in the whole 16-day window. It’s a flat spell with barely a ripple worth getting wet for.
The water is sitting at 87°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only interesting thing going on.
The first few days, from the 4th up to the 8th, we’re looking at tiny swell – barely 1ft to 2ft from the south and southeast, with a period of just 4 to 5 seconds. That’s weak, short-period wind chop, not proper surf. The combined energy never gets above 27 (weak), and the wind is cross-on or onshore, making it choppy and messy. Thursday the 6th afternoon has a bit of onshore wind, but the swell is still junk.
Through the second week, from the 10th to the 16th, it’s the same story – swell heights stuck between 1ft and 2ft, periods still short, and the wind almost always cross-on or onshore. The combined energy flirts with the 20s and 30s, but that’s still weak. There’s a brief moment on the morning of the 17th and again on the 18th and 19th mornings where the wind turns light cross-offshore from the WSW, cleaning the surface up. But even then, the swell is only 1ft to 2ft with a 4 to 5 second period. It’s flat, clean, and glassy-looking, but there’s no power behind it. Not enough to surf.
The bottom line: there’s absolutely nothing worth paddling out for. For a beginner-friendly beach/pier setup like Meacom Pier, this is a typical dead period. The only thing remotely interesting is the odd clean morning, but with no swell, it’s just a pretty lake. If you’re desperate for a splash, maybe a longboard on the 17th or 18th morning, but don’t expect a wave. It’s a total blank run.
Stay patient, folks. The forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a no-go.
