Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fingal Point and Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here, looking at what the next couple of weeks have in store for us at Fingal Point and Beach. It’s a mixed bag, but we’ve got a couple of windows that are worth paddling out for.
The pattern kicks off with some size, but the quality is a real struggle. We’re looking at a solid pulse of swell from the SE, running 7 to 8 ft, with a moderate 11-second period, packing moderate wave energy (1227). The problem is the wind. A strong SSW breeze is keeping things clean in the mornings, but it’s still a cross-off, and the size is right on the edge. This kind of power at a point break with a cross-off can get tricky. Thursday afternoon (9th July) gets messy as the wind swings south and goes cross, bringing a cross-chop.
Friday (10th July) is more of the same story – still some size, around 7 ft, but the quality is marginal. The morning offers the cleaner window with that cross-off breeze, but it’s nothing to get excited about.
Then we hit a long flat spell. After Saturday the 11th, the swell really drops out. There is a brief moment early Sunday morning (12th July) with clean, 4 ft surf and a light offshore from the WNW, but it’s weak, with low energy (253). After that, we’re looking at days of tiny, poor-quality waves through to the middle of the following week. For about a week, from the afternoon of the 12th right through to the 18th of July, it’s going to be a write-off. A few days of nothing, then some tiny windslop.
The best bet of the whole outlook looks to be on Saturday the 18th of July. We finally get a proper pulse of SE swell pushing back in, hitting 7 ft with that solid 10-second period, and the combined energy jumps right back up into moderate territory (1049). The wind is a cross-off from the SSW, which should keep the peak at Fingal Point reasonably clean. The morning will be the pick, with a fresh breeze but clean conditions. It’s a bit big for beginners, pushing into that expert-only territory over 8 ft, but for anyone comfortable in solid surf, this is the standout window. Sunday morning (19th July) will be a good follow-up, with the swell dropping to a still-chunky 5 ft and lighter winds making for a cleaner, more manageable session.
After that pulse, we’re back into a long spell of tiny surf right through to the end of the forecast period.
So, circle Saturday the 18th of July on your calendar. It’s the only real shot of quality size and clean conditions we’ve got. It’s a long way out, so keep an eye on the forecasts, but right now, that’s the one to chase.
Rusty.
