Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fingal Point and Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get into it. Rusty here.
Right off the bat, I gotta be honest with you – the next week and a bit is looking pretty grim. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing much happening before things finally start to look interesting again towards the end of the month. For the first week, there’s barely a decent wave in sight, so don’t get your hopes up.
The only real standout in this whole 16-day window comes on Tuesday, July 21st. That morning at Fingal Point and Beach, we’ll see a clean 6ft swell rolling in from the ESE with a solid 9-second period. The water temp is sitting at 69°, which is about normal for this time of year. The wind is glassy – dead calm from the SSW – so the surface will be silky smooth. The combined energy is moderate, reading 605, so there’s some real push behind it. This is your best bet by a long shot. It’s a point break, so it’ll handle that ESE swell nicely, and with glassy conditions, it’ll be a joy. Crowds are possible here sometimes, so get there early if you can.
Before that, we’re looking at a real drought. From now right through to the morning of the 21st, it’s pretty much a write-off. We’ve got a few days of tiny, weak waves, followed by a nasty spell of strong southerly winds. By Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th, the swell pumps up to 10ft, but the wind is howling cross-shore at 18-22 mph, making it a lumpy, choppy mess. That amount of energy is huge – we’re talking 1509 on the Saturday morning – but with those winds, it’s more of a kite-surfing show than a paddle session. That swell is also too big for beginners, and only for experts if you’re looking for a challenge, but honestly, the wind kills it.
After the 21st, things settle down a bit. The rest of the week has some smaller, cleaner windows, but nothing that’ll match that Tuesday morning. The 23rd and 24th offer some knee-to-waist high waves with clean winds, and the 26th has some cross-off breezes, but the swell drops back to around 3ft. It’s surfable, but average.
So, keep your eyes on Tuesday, July 21st. That’s the day. Until then, maybe wax the board and wait.
