Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fingal Point and Beach over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. I’ve chewed over the scene at Fingal Point and Beach, and I’ll lay it out plain—there’s a dry spell at the start before things get interesting. The first week’s a bust for anyone after a decent wave, but the second week starts to wake up.
From Sunday the 12th of July right through to Saturday the 18th, the surf is tiny and the wind’s all wrong. Swell heights are mostly under 3 feet, and the wind is cross-shore or cross-off, kicking up mess. Even when the swell jumps to over 13 feet on the 18th, the wind is howling at 19 mph cross-shore, making it lumpy. The combined energy stays low for days, barely cracking 200, then spikes to 4271 on the 18th but it’s still a messy chop. Not worth paddling out.
The real window starts on Sunday the 19th of July. The swell is big—around 13 feet from the SE, period 11 seconds—but the wind is cross-shore at 16 to 19 mph, so it’s rough. Still, the energy is huge, over 3500. On Monday the 20th, the swell drops to around 10 feet, period 10 seconds, and the wind eases to a gentle breeze. The combined energy is still massive, around 3832. This is heavy stuff, only for experienced surfers.
The pick of the whole run is Tuesday the 21st of July morning. We’ve got a 7 foot swell from the ESE, period 11 seconds, and the wind is dead calm—glassy, glassy, glassy. The combined energy is 1100, so it’s got power, and the conditions are excellent for experienced surfers. The swell direction suits this point setup, so expect some clean lines. After that, the swell holds around 5 feet through the week, with glassy mornings on Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd offering clean conditions again. Crowds can show up sometimes, so expect a few other surfers around.
Water temp on the 12th is about 69°F, normal for this time of year.
So, the first week’s a scratch, then from Tuesday the 21st onward we’ve got some real gems, especially that Tuesday morning glass-off. That’s the one I’d be stoked on. Keep your fingers crossed.
Rusty.
