Righto, let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Fingal Point and Beach over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s been a pretty flat and messy run to start. We’ve got a solid stretch of quiet, poor-condition days right through from the start of July until midway through the first week. Morning of Wednesday the 8th is the first time anything really shows up, and it’s a big one—but it’s not for everyone. We’re looking at an 8ft swell from the SE, with an 11-second period pushing through moderate wave energy (1692). That’s expert territory, no doubt. The wind’s clean and cross-off in the morning, so the sets will be well-shaped, but at that size on a point, it’ll be pitching and powerful, not a place to mess around if you’re not solid on bigger waves. Crowds are possible here too, so expect some company on the better waves.
After that spike, we drop right back to near nothing, and it stays quiet, small, and mostly cross-windy or onshore for several days. Morning of Sunday the 12th offers a little pulse of 3ft ESE swell at 10 seconds, decent combined energy (185) and clean with a light cross-off breeze, but conditions are very ordinary—it’s more of a limp knee-high option than anything exciting.
Monday the 13th morning has a glassy start with offshore glass conditions and a tiny 2ft SE groundswell, just 100 combined energy, so you’ll be scratching for something rideable but at least it’ll be clean. The real standout, though, is that Wednesday the 8th morning session. If you’re an experienced surfer and can handle the size, that’s your best shot by a long shot in this entire 16-day run. Be aware the water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing unusual.
After that, we’re back to small and messy, with a little bump on Saturday the 18th morning: 7ft from the SE, 8-second period, combined energy 530—but the wind is cross and it’s lumpy. That’s more of a beast for tow or kite gear, not your standard paddle-out. Honestly, for most surfers, it’s a grim stretch.
