Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright lads, Rusty here. Let's chew the fat on what's coming our way. It's going to be a quiet period overall, so don't go in expecting a monster session, but there are a couple of windows that are worth keeping an eye on.
Right off the bat, there's a dead stretch. From now through Wednesday, July 8th, the surf is flat or just too ugly to bother with at Fingal Point and Beach. Tiny swell and a solid southerly breeze chopping it all up. Save the wax.
The first real sign of life hits us on Thursday, July 9th. A southeasterly groundswell with a 11-second period pushes wave heights to around 8 feet. The combined energy is strong, hitting 1227, so there's some proper power behind it. Thursday morning is the go, with a cross-offshore wind cleaning things up. That 8-foot range puts this firmly in the expert category, so don't paddle out if you're not confident. The swell is coming from the SE, which isn't the ideal NE direction for this spot, but the size and the clean morning wind should make for some solid, walled-up waves. This is the standout for the big-wave crew.
Friday the 10th backs off a bit to 6-foot waves with a cross-shore wind making it a bit bumpy. Ridable, but not pretty. Then we hit a lull.
Sunday, July 12th is the real gem for everyone else. The swell drops to a nice 4 feet, but the wind is a beautiful offshore from the WNW, and the period is a clean 10 seconds. Water temp is the usual for this time of year. This is the session you want. The combined swell energy is moderate at 242, but that offshore wind is pure gold, giving you clean, glassy shoulders. Grab your log or a funboard and enjoy.
Looking into the second week, it's thin. July 19th, a Sunday, shows some tiny 3-foot waves with glassy conditions again, but the energy is weak (73), and that's about as good as it gets. There's a little bump on the 20th of July with 4-foot northeasterly windswell, but the wind is messy. Honestly, after that Sunday the 12th, the outlook is mostly small, weak, and wind-affected. The 16th and 17th of July show a spike in southerly windswell, but with terrible wind, it's a no-go. The best bets are Thursday the 9th for the experts, and Sunday the 12th for anyone wanting a clean, fun day in the water.
Rusty, out.
