Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fingal Point and Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let’s talk about the next couple of weeks at Fingal Point and Beach.
Right now, the ocean is flat. We’re looking at a solid run of weak surf for the next week and a half. The first real chance of a wave isn't until Thursday morning, July 10th, and even then it’s nothing to get excited about. We’ve got a long gap of poor conditions for the first week of the forecast. Honestly, it’s a bit of a bummer.
Thursday morning, July 10th, offers a 6 ft SE swell, but it’s a cross-off wind from the SSW at 12 mph. The wave energy is moderate (925) and the period is 10 seconds, so it’s a bit of a lumpy, average wave. It's not terrible, but it's not good. The swell drops off through the end of the week.
Then, on Saturday, July 12th, we get a brief moment of calm. The wind goes glassy in the morning, with a 3 ft swell from the ESE. The period is 13 seconds, which is a nice long groundswell, but the energy is weak (195). It’s clean, but you’ll be hunting for a ripple.
The real standout, the one you’re waiting for, is on Thursday, July 23rd. This is a proper event. The swell jumps to 10 ft in the morning, hitting 13 ft in the afternoon, from the SE. The energy is a massive 3169 – that’s very strong. The wind is offshore from the WSW at 9 mph, creating clean, glassy conditions. The period is 10 seconds. This is excellent surf, but it’s big. At 10 ft to 13 ft, it’s for experienced surfers only. The water temperature is 70°F, which is bang on average for the time of year.
Friday, July 24th, holds the swell at 12 ft in the morning with glassy conditions and a 10 ft afternoon. The swell direction shifts to ESE with an 11-second period. It’s still big and powerful, but the afternoon wind turns cross-on, so the morning window is the one to aim for. This is a powerful, long-range swell that will be breaking a bit straight at the beach, so the point itself will be the pick for the best shape.
If you're a beginner, the July 23rd and 24th swell is way too big. For everyone else, July 23rd morning through July 24th morning is the absolute best on offer. The rest of the period is a write-off. The crowd will be there at Fingal when it’s on, but on a swell this good, it’s worth it.
Rusty.
