Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve been staring at Fingal Point and Beach for the next sixteen days, and I gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch. We’ve got a whole lot of nothing happening, with the odd little spike that’s still barely worth paddling out for. The water temp is hanging around 70.9° Fahrenheit, which is pretty average for this time of year, so nothin’ to complain about on that front. But the surf? It’s lean.
Right at the start, Saturday the 4th through to Tuesday the 8th, it’s flat or tiny, mostly messy cross-shore wind from the south making everything choppy. You’re lookin’ at waist-high or below swell from the ESE, period’s all over the shop, but the combined wave energy is weak – barely cracking triple digits most days. Not worth wetting a wetsuit for.
Then Wednesday the 8th afternoon, we get a sudden jump. Swell comes up to 8.2 ft from the SE with an 11-second period, and the combined energy hits 1661 – that’s a proper pulse of energy. But here’s the catch: it’s cross-onshore wind from the south at 12 mph, and the report says marginal surf with questionable tide. That size at Fingal? It’s pushing into expert territory, and the wind’s gonna rip the face off it. Honestly, that setup looks more interesting for kite surfers than paddle surfers – it’ll be lumpy and tough.
From Thursday the 9th onwards, we’re back to tiny dribble. The morning of Saturday the 11th looks glassy with 0.7 ft from the ESE, dead calm wind, but it’s basically a pond. That’s a stand-out for how clean the surface is, but there’s no swell to ride. By Sunday the 12th we see a little bump to 2.3 ft from the SE on the afternoon, but cross-shore wind keeps it ordinary. The only other semi-interesting moment is Monday the 13th afternoon – 2.3 ft from the SE, clean with light offshore from the NW. That’s surfable but very ordinary, as they say – a total knee-high dribbler for a local.
Overall, you’re looking at nearly two weeks of underwhelming conditions. No real standout windows for quality waves. If you’re keen for a splash, the glassiest morning is Saturday the 11th, but you’ll be paddling on a mirror. For any real size, Wednesday the 8th afternoon is it, but only for the brave and the expert. Otherwise, keep the board in the car and wait for a better run – that blank stretch is pretty normal for this region when the swell dies off.
