Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, let’s break it down. The start of this stretch is dead – from Sunday the 5th through Tuesday the 7th, you’re looking at three days of basically nothing. Dirty cross-shore winds, chop, and waves so small they’re barely ripples. Total energy is weak, under 170. Leave the board in the car.
Wednesday, July 8th brings a massive change. Wednesday morning at Fingal Point and Beach has a 10ft SE swell rolling in, 11-second period, and combined energy cranked all the way to 2197. That’s a lot of water moving. Problem is, the wind is cross-shore from the south at 25 km/h. On a beach-point setup, that’s gonna be rough – big, messy, and not for the faint-hearted. Only experts should even think about it. Afternoon drops to 4ft but still packs 536 energy, and the cross-wind stays. Not clean.
Thursday, July 9th morning goes glassy and clean, but there’s zero swell — zilch. Flat as a pancake. Thursday afternoon bounces back to 7ft SE swell (967 energy) but that cross-shore wind is back again. So it’s big, but not pretty.
Friday, July 10th is another washout – flat and poor.
Here come the good windows. Saturday, July 11th morning is your best bet. Winds go glassy – NNW at about 3 mph – and we’ve got a 5ft SE groundswell (432 energy). That’s clean, solid, and with a 10-second period it’ll have proper shape. Perfect for intermediates, and the glassy surface means smooth, peeling waves. Get out early. Afternoon gets a bit bumpy.
Sunday, July 12th delivers again. Morning has a clean offshore breeze from the west at about 9 mph, with a 2ft ESE swell (161 energy) – small but fun and clean. Afternoon is even better: offshore from the WSW, 3ft SE swell at 11 seconds, 229 energy. That longer period gives it some grunt, and the offshore wind will keep the faces clean. Good quality waves, just not huge.
After Sunday, it’s back to small and weak from Monday the 13th onward. Energy stays below 100 (92, 74, 90) and the swell periods get short – 5 to 9 seconds – so the waves have no power. A few clean moments, like Tuesday morning July 14th with glassy conditions and 3ft of swell, but it’s windswell with only a 5-second period, so it’s pretty ordinary. Saturday, July 18th morning shows a tiny 2ft SE groundswell at 13 seconds and glassy conditions (157 energy) – clean but very small. Not a standout.
Water temp is about where it should be for the season, nothing crazy.
Crowds at Fingal Point and Beach? They show up sometimes, so don’t expect solitude on the good days.
The call: Saturday July 11th morning is the clear winner – glassy, clean, decent size. Sunday the 12th afternoon is your backup. Otherwise, it’s a wait-and-see game.
Rusty.
