The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it. Gotta be honest with you, the next 16 days look pretty grim for a proper paddle. We’ve got one spot on the radar, but it’s a tough sell.

The only break showing any pulse at all is El Tiburon - Playa Honda. The water is sitting at 74°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only good news.

We start off with a little bit of hope on Friday morning, August 7th. There’s a small NE swell coming in at 5 ft, with a short period of 7 seconds. Combined wave energy is weak at 199. The wind is a cross-offshore from the north at 16 mph, so it’s not terrible, but the call is "poor surf conditions." After that morning, it’s a total dead zone. From Friday afternoon all the way through to late in the day on Saturday, August 22nd, the forecast is basically flat. There are tiny little pulses of 0.3 ft and 1 ft showing up from the 15th onwards, but with periods all over the place and energy levels barely registering (single digits), you’re not getting a ride. The wind stays a persistent cross-off breeze, mostly 16 to 22 mph, which keeps the surface clean, but there’s simply nothing to push into it.

The best we can say is that Friday morning, August 7th, is the only real window. The swell is small, the period is short, and it’s inconsistent. Given the combined energy is under 200, it’s weak. For a beginner, that 5 ft is manageable, but with the short period and poor surf quality tag, it’s not going to be great. For the experts, it’s a frustrating one. The spot is sheltered and the optimum swell direction is ENE, but the swell is coming from the NE, so it’s not even properly lined up. The crowds are listed as "sometimes," so you might have it quiet, but honestly, it’s not worth the trip unless you’re desperate for a stretch.

Overall, this is a blank run. There’s a massive gap from the 7th afternoon through to the 22nd with no real surf on offer. It’s a dry spell. Keep the board waxed, but don’t get your hopes up. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a tough outlook.

Rusty.
