From Saturday the 29th of August through to Tuesday the 8th of September, it’s basically flat or junk. We’ve got tiny dribbles of swell—0.3ft to 3ft—with cross-off winds that are too strong, and then a stint of lumpy, cross-onshore slop that’s not even worth paddling out for. The wave energy is weak, barely hitting 54 (combined energy) on the best of those days, and often just single digits. The water temp is sitting around 72° with a slight anomaly of -2°, so it’s marginally cooler than usual for this time of year, but nothing to write home about. For the first few days, it’s just a tease.

Now, the standouts—and there’s really only one window that’s got my blood pumping. On Tuesday the 8th of September, Coral Dois (reef) wakes up proper. The morning is where it’s at: a clean 5ft groundswell from the SSE, with a very long period of 16 seconds, and offshore winds out of the north at just 3 mph. That’s glassy, that’s groomed, and the combined energy hits 937—strong wave energy. This is the kind of swell that’ll wrap into the reef with real push, but that long period means it’ll be better for the reef setup than a beach break. It’s a consistent spot, so you’ll get sets, but expect crowds sometimes.

The Tuesday afternoon eases a bit—4ft from the SSE, 15-second period, cross-off breeze from the NE at 9 mph—still good, but not as clean as the morning. The combined energy is still solid at 699.

Then Wednesday the 9th of September morning is another gem: 3ft SSE swell, 14-second period, with glassy conditions—northeast wind at 3 mph, basically nothing. The combined energy is 376, moderate, but the glass-off makes it perfect for a long, smooth session. Crowds are likely, so get in early.

After that, it fades again. The 10th and 11th bring cross-onshore winds and smaller, lumpy surf, and the energy drops back to two-digit numbers. By the 12th and 13th, we’re back to tiny, clean but small stuff—1ft to 2ft—with moderate energy, not enough to get excited about.

So, bottom line: if you’ve got patience, the real swell hits on the 8th and 9th of September. That’s your window. The rest is a waiting game.
