The Lowdown

Alright, let’s be straight with you. The surf for Conado-Beach over the next couple of weeks is pretty grim. We're looking at a breakwater that’s exposed, but the swell just isn’t showing up in any meaningful way.

From now until about the 24th, it’s a write-off. We have tiny, weak swells from the east and northeast, with periods of 5 to 8 seconds – that’s just windswell junk. The wind is constantly cross or cross-onshore, so the surface is always chopped up. The energy readings are mostly in the weak category, like 50 to 116, which tells you everything. This is not surfable.

There’s a slight change around the 26th and 27th. The period finally gets up to 10-11 seconds, and the energy jumps into the moderate range – we see 327, 408, and 314. The swell height gets to around 1.0 to 1.1m. But, the direction is NNE, which is poor for this spot. Plus, the wind is still a cross-shore chop. It’s marginal, a 1 out of 10 at best. Then, by Monday the 28th, the swell is fading again. The afternoon might clean up with a cross-offshore wind, but the size is dropping to 0.9m.

With this inconsistent break, the constant poor conditions, and the onshore wind, this is looking more like a kiteboarding zone than a surfing spot. There’s no power, no shape, and the surface is a mess.

It’s a long stretch of nothing, but that's the reality. It's a blank run, which can happen here. We’ll keep an eye on it, but for now, save your energy.

Rusty.
