Alright, this is Rusty signing in from the Gas Chambers. Let's have a look at what’s coming down the pipe over the next couple of weeks.
To be brutally honest, the next 16 days are looking pretty grim for Gas Chambers (Big Island). Right from Thursday the 9th of July onwards, there's just no swell on the cards to speak of. We’re looking at a long stretch with next to no wave energy, with the combined energy of all swells directed here stuck at zero for days on end. The water temp is sitting around 84°F, which is about average for this time of year, nothing weird there.
Friday the 10th through the weekend is a total write-off. Despite some clean offshore winds – ENE at 9 to 19 mph – without any swell to work with, it's just flat. You could paddle around on a SUP, but that’s about it.
We do scrape up a tiny bit of life late on Saturday the 11th afternoon and into the new week. For instance, Sunday morning the 12th sees a weak 0.7ft swell from the north with a period of 9 seconds, but the combined energy is just 6, so it's barely a ripple. Monday the 13th offers similar tiny 0.7ft pulses from the NNE, but with a combined energy of only 16. All of this with clean offshore winds, but the swell is just too small to surf. You're looking at ankle-biters at best. This micro-swell pattern trickles along until about the 19th of July, with heights never cracking 1ft and periods dropping under 8 seconds toward the end, which is just wind chop. The combined energy rarely even hits the teens (4 to 16).
Then from the 20th of July right through to the 24th, it goes completely flat again. No swell, no energy. Plain zero.
So what's the standout? There isn't one, sadly. This is a blank run that suits the area when it’s this inconsistent. The only "positive" is the persistent offshore winds, which would make for silky conditions if there was any wave to ride. The only thing that looks interesting here is that, with these steady cross-off trades and no paddle-worthy surf, the setup is more suited for kite surfing than a traditional surf session. There's no one standout day.
Hang in there, forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a flat spell.
Rusty.
