Surfers Beach Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Righto, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are lookin’ pretty average at Surfers Beach. We’ve got some swell on the cards, but the wind just won’t play nice for the most part. Let’s break it down.

The real problem is a persistent cross-offshore breeze from the ENE, and it’s often a stiff one. That’s gonna put a chop on the face and make things messy, especially on the reef. We do have a narrow window on the morning of Saturday the 1st of August where it gets glassy. That morning, the wind drops right back to a light breeze, and the swell sits at a clean 5 ft from the ENE. It’s a short period of 8 seconds, so it’s not gonna have heaps of push, but it’ll be the cleanest you’ll see for a while. The combined swell energy is moderate at 215, so there’s something to play with. It’s a reef break, consistent, and exposed to the north, which matches up with the optimum direction. It’s an intermediate wave. That’s your standout.

Outside of that Saturday morning, things get grim. The rest of the first week is plagued by stronger winds and a bumpy sea surface, with the odd storm risk. You’ll see swell heights up around 7 ft in the afternoons, but with 15-18 mph winds, it’s not worth paddling out for the average punter. The water temp is pretty standard for this time of year, nothing unusual to report.

From Sunday the 2nd of August onwards, it’s a write-off for any decent surf. The swell drops right off, and what little shows up is either too small or blown out by a fresh to moderate breeze. There’s a long stretch from the 3rd right through to the 14th of August where the combined swell energy mostly sits under 100 – weak stuff. You’ll see some numbers like 1.0 ft or even flat. The wind keeps hammering it. It’s a blank run, and in this area, when the wind settles on that ENE quarter like this, it can be a real drought. Not much to get excited about.

Late in the run, on the morning of the 15th of August, we see a tiny pulse from the NNE with a period of 11 seconds, but it’s a mere 0.7 ft and the wind is still up. That’s a long-range hope, but it’s a slim one.

So, if you’ve got a surfboard, your best bet is to be out there on the morning of Saturday the 1st of August. The rest of the time, you might be better off with a kite if the wind suits, because the waves just aren’t holding up.
