The Lowdown

Alright crew, Rusty here. Let's break down what's coming our way over the next couple of weeks. Gotta be honest, it starts real slow.

The first chance at anything is Thursday, the 17th of September, but it's not much. The morning shows a weak 4ft swell from the ENE with a short, bumpy 6-second period. Wind is cross-offshore at 6 mph, and the wave energy is low (112). It's described as very ordinary. From now until Wednesday the 16th, it's a total blank – tiny, useless waves and poor conditions.

That Thursday morning is the best of a bad start, but it's barely surfable. Water temp is a warm 85°, which is about normal for the time of year.

Then we hit a long, flat stretch. From Friday the 18th all the way through to Friday the 25th, it's mostly tiny swell under 2ft, with persistent cross-offshore winds and poor conditions. There's a small moment on Sunday the 20th with a glassy morning and a light SE breeze, but the swell is only 2ft. Not worth getting wet for.

The one real standout in the whole 16 days is Sunday, the 27th of September. The morning is still poor, but look at the afternoon: a clean 5ft swell from the ENE, with a 10-second period and a light 6 mph cross-off breeze. The wave energy jumps to 375 – that's solid. That's the only time we see "expect good surf conditions" in the data.

Surfers Beach is a reef break, consistent, and exposed to the north. The swell is from the ENE, which is a bit off its best N direction, but it's the best window we get. The 5ft size is perfect for intermediates, and with those light cross-off winds, it should be clean and lined up. Be aware, crowds are likely here, so plan for company.

After that, Monday the 28th and Tuesday the 29th drop back into very ordinary, small conditions.

So here's the deal: the first week and a half is a bust. Put all your energy into Sunday the 27th afternoon at Surfers Beach – that's your only real shot. Forecasts can shift, but that's how it looks right now.

Rusty.
