The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, let's have a look at what's on the cards for Dogmans (Rincon) over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it’s looking pretty quiet. We’ve got a long stretch of flat, small conditions ahead, so don’t be in a rush to get the wetsuit on. The first few days, starting Saturday the 22nd, are just tiny waves, barely a ripple at 0.7 ft from the NNE with a short 8-second period. The combined energy is weak, reading between 6 and 8. The wind is messy on Saturday morning, a cross-on, so it’s not worth paddling out.
Sunday the 23rd morning, we finally get a moment of glass – that beautiful, dead calm wind. The swell is still only 0.7 ft, but that glassy surface makes it look prettier than it is. It’s still poor surf conditions, though; you’d be bobbing around more than riding.
From Monday the 24th right through the end of the month, it drops right off. We’re talking 0.3 ft or even no measurable swell at all for days on end. Energy values are mostly single digits or just zero. There are a few glassy mornings, like Tuesday the 25th and Saturday the 29th, and a bit of a long-period pulse on the 25th (12 seconds) but with only 0.3 ft of swell, that’s just a deepwater groundswell with no push to the shoreline. Nothing doing.
We finally see a little pulse on Monday the 31st in the afternoon – a 0.7 ft NNE swell with an 11-second period, giving us a combined energy of 12. Still dribble. Then into September, we get a bit more hope. Tuesday the 1st of September morning has a 1 ft SSW swell, but the period is a short 6 seconds and the wind is onshore – not ideal. The energy is still weak at 13. Later, on Wednesday the 2nd afternoon, we get a 0.7 ft NNE swell with an 11-second period and a cross-shore wind, but again, tiny.
The best of the whole outlook, and I mean the one true standout, is the morning of Saturday the 6th of September. We’ve got 1.0 ft of swell from the north, a 9-second period, and the wind is glassy – dead calm. The combined energy finally breaks into double digits at 15. It’s not a big swell, but for this region in this window, with perfect glass and a little bit of shape, that’s your best shot. Bring a longboard or a funboard and you might snag a few clean little runners over the reef. The water temperature anomaly isn’t given, so we’ll call it average for the time of year, but jump in anyway.
For the rest, honestly, the setup is so small and weak for most of the fortnight that if the wind picks up, it’s going to be a flat, choppy mess. Don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
