The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what the next couple of weeks is shaping up to be for Dogmans (Rincon).
To be straight with you, it's a flat spell for the foreseeable. We’ve got a long stretch of tiny, weak rollers that aren't going to do much for any of us. The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing wild there.
Looking at the details, starting Wednesday, the 19th of August, we’ve got tiny 0.7ft swell with a short 9-second period out of the NNE, but the combined energy is a measly (12) and the text says it’s poor. Winds are light from the W in the morning, but still, it’s not worth suiting up for.
Thursday the 20th brings a slight bump to 1.0ft from the N with a 7-second period, energy is still weak at (15). The morning is glassy with the wind almost calm, but that tiny wave just isn't breaking with any push.
This pattern pretty much runs the whole show. Day after day we see the same story: 0.7ft or 1.0ft swells, 7 to 9-second periods, and combined energy struggling to hit double digits. The wind does go glassy or offshore at times, like Friday the 21st morning with a glassy NE 3 mph, but the wave heights are just too small. A few days, like Monday the 24th and Tuesday the 25th, show completely flat conditions, zero energy (0).
We do get a little tease toward the end of the first week. Friday the 28th morning shows a glassy 0.7ft swell from the NNE with a slightly longer 10-second period and energy of (9). Still too small to call it surf, but a hint that the ocean is at least breathing.
Into the deeper forecast, the last day of August and into September, it stays the same story—small, weak, and unrideable. There’s a patch on the 30th with 0.7ft and a 12-second period, energy hitting (14), but the wind is cross or cross-onshore, killing any chance of a clean wave.
So, what’s the bottom line? There are no standouts. Not one. The entire 16-day window is a bust for any kind of proper surf. For a spot like Dogmans that can be fairly consistent, this is a quiet run. Forecasts can change though, so don’t bin the boards just yet. For now, the only thing breaking is the heat. If someone was dead keen, the glassy mornings with that tiny 1.0ft might be something for a longboard if you’re desperate, but I wouldn't bother. Honestly, for the size, this setup looks more interesting for a flat-water paddle than a surf.
Rusty.
