The Lowdown
Alright, let me tell ya, it’s a tough one to write today. Dogmans (Rincon) is a reef setup that usually has some potential, but the next 16 days are looking pretty grim. I’ve scanned the whole run, and honestly, there’s almost nothing to get excited about. The first recommendation doesn’t even pop up until the 22nd of July, and even then it’s a real whisper.
Right now, starting from the 18th of July, you’re staring at a blank wall. The water temperature is sitting at 84°, which is about 2° warmer than usual for this time of year – feels like bathwater, but that’s the only thing that’s warm. The first sign of any real swell comes on Wednesday morning, the 22nd of July. We’re looking at a tiny 2ft swell from the NNE, with a short period of 6 seconds and weak combined energy (24). The wind is glassy though, so if you’re desperate, it’ll be clean. But at that size, you’re barely bobbing around.
The next few days are a bust. Thursday the 23rd shows a glassy morning, but no swell at all (0 energy). Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th are clean, but again, no real waves to speak of. Sunday the 26th has a bit of glassy wind in the afternoon, but still, nothing. The whole week is a write-off.
We go through a long stretch of zeros – days and days of poor surf conditions, with only tiny, inconsistent pulses. By the 1st of August, we get a 0.7ft swell from the NNW with a period of 8 seconds and energy reading of just 6. Not enough to bother with. The best of a very bad bunch might be the morning of the 2nd of August – a clean 0.7ft from the NNW, but it’s still a dribble.
So, the standout? Honestly, there isn’t one. If you had to pick a moment, the glassy 2ft on the morning of the 22nd of July is the only thing that offers a clean wave, but it’s for beginners only. For anyone else, this is a solid 2-week gap of flatness. The setup looks more interesting for a paddleboard than a surfboard right now. Don’t hold your breath.
