Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks. I’ll be straight with you—this is gonna be a tough stretch, so don’t get your hopes up.
We’ve got a long dry spell ahead. The first time we see a little bump of swell that’s worth even mentioning is on the morning of Thursday, 16 July, but even then we’re talkin’ tiny. So settle in, because there’s a big gap of nearly a week and a half with nothing worth paddling out for.
Right now, into the first week of July, it’s all flat. Zero wave energy. If you’re lookin' for something to do, maybe just clean the wax off your board. The water temp at our only spot, Dogmans (Rincon), is sittin’ at 84° which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
Now, the first real bit of swell—if you can call it that—shows up Thursday morning, 16 July. Dogmans will see a tiny 0.3m wave from the north with a period of just 7 seconds. The energy is weak (17). But here’s the thing: the wind will be glassy. That means the surface will be clean, even if there’s not much push. A dedicated soul surfer might get a few knee-high wobbly ones.
Friday morning, 17 July, is similar. Still tiny at 0.3m from the north-northeast, and the period is still short at 7 seconds. The morning is dead calm—glassy as a mirror. Combined energy is still weak at 10. It won’t be epic, but it’ll be the best you’ll see all week. Saturday morning, 18 July, keeps the same theme: 0.3m from the north-northeast, short period, and clean conditions with a light cross-offshore breeze.
So what’s the standout? Honestly, there isn’t a true standout here. If I had to pick one, it’s the Friday morning, 17 July, at Dogmans. It’s the biggest we get at 0.3m, the wind is calm, and the water is glassy. That’s as good as it gets in this dead spell.
After that, we fade back to zero again for the rest of the forecast. Sunday, 19 July, and Monday, 20 July, are flat with no energy.
Look, this is one of those times when the ocean just goes to sleep. It’s a bit of a bummer, but it happens. Forecasts can change, so keep an eye on it, but for now, maybe take up fishing.
Rusty.
