Alright, this is Rusty checking in with a look at the next couple of weeks.
We’ve got a solid run of waves on the horizon. The pattern is set to keep us in the game with a consistent, clean easterly swell. The wind is looking like a real friend for the most part, staying offshore from the east or east-northeast, which is going to keep the surface clean. The water temperature is sitting at 80°F, which is pretty much spot on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The week kicks off on Tuesday 7 July, but honestly, it’s a bit of a slow start. You’ll find surfable waves, but the conditions are very ordinary with a risk of thunderstorms. The swell is small, around 4ft to 5ft from the northeast, with a short period of 7 seconds, so not much energy behind it (combined energy of all swells directed here is 130). It’s rideable, but nothing to get excited about.
Things start to pick up properly on Wednesday 8 July. The swell builds to 5ft from the east-northeast, and the wind stays a gentle offshore breeze. The energy is climbing (combined energy of all swells directed here is 218), and the forecast is calling for good surf conditions. This is where the outlook starts to get interesting.
The standout period is from Thursday 9 July through to Sunday 12 July. Thursday morning sees the swell holding at 5ft from the east-northeast, but the period stretches to 8 seconds, giving the waves a bit more shape and punch (combined energy of all swells directed here is 224). By Thursday afternoon, the wind picks up a little to a moderate offshore breeze, and the energy jumps to 338. Friday 10 July is looking like the best of the bunch. The swell hits 6ft from the east-northeast, with a moderate offshore wind keeping it clean. The energy is strong (combined energy of all swells directed here is 382). This is a proper session for intermediate surfers, and it’s not too big for a confident beginner. Saturday 11 July keeps the fun going with 5ft waves and that same reliable offshore flow. Sunday 12 July still has 5ft waves on offer, but the period drops back to 7 seconds, so the energy is a bit less (combined energy of all swells directed here is 250). The crowds can be "sometimes" here, so be ready for a few others in the water, especially on the weekend.
From Monday 13 July onward, the swell slowly backs off, dropping to 3ft to 4ft through the middle of the week. The wind stays offshore, but the energy is low (combined energy of all swells directed here drops to 91 on the 14th). It’s surfable, but ordinary again. There’s a little pulse of 5ft to 5ft on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 July, worth a look if you’re keen, but the real consistent push is over. The last week of the outlook, from 17 July to 22 July, sees waves hovering around 4ft to 6ft, with the odd afternoon risk of thunderstorms. The wind remains offshore, so it’s clean, but the energy is moderate and the quality is just okay.
The one true standout is Friday 10 July. That’s the day to circle. The 6ft east-northeast swell with a moderate offshore breeze and a period of 8 seconds is going to deliver clean, fun waves. The energy is high (combined energy of all swells directed here is 382), and the conditions are set to be solid. If you can only get out once, make it that day.
Stay safe out there, and don’t forget the thunderstorm risk if you’re heading out in the afternoons.
