The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it. Rusty here.
First up, I’ll be straight with you: the next 16 days at BC’s are a real mixed bag, and honestly, the surf is pretty flat for most of it. We’ve got a long stretch of tiny, weak swell that’s barely going to get you wet. The good news is that the wind is often light and clean, so it’ll be a nice place to sit and watch the horizon, but don’t expect to be riding much.
Starting Tuesday afternoon, July 14th, we’ve got a tiny 0.7ft NNE swell rolling in with a moderate 10-second period. The water temperature is sitting at 84°, which is about normal for this time of year. The wind is a clean cross-offshore from the ENE at 12 mph, so the surface will be glassy. The problem is the combined energy is a measly 11 – that’s just not enough to push you around. It’s a poor surf call.
Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th are even worse, with swell dropping to 0.3ft and 1.0ft. The wind stays light, but the wave energy is in the single digits. Honestly, it’s a total write-off.
Friday the 17th afternoon shows a glimmer of hope – a 3ft NE swell with a short 6-second period. The combined energy bumps up to 55, which is still weak, but it’s the best we’ve seen. The wind is light and cross-offshore, so it’ll be clean. It’s still not great, but if you’re desperate, you might find a dribbly little wave.
Saturday the 18th afternoon sees a 3ft NE swell, again with a short 6-second period and energy of 79. The wind is a moderate cross-off. Still, the short period means the waves will be fat and crumbly – not ideal for any real surfing.
The next week continues the same pattern: tiny swells, light winds, and very low energy. Sunday the 19th afternoon has a 4ft NE swell with 96 energy, but it’s still short-period. The afternoon thunderstorms might put a damper on things.
The one standout, if you can call it that, is Tuesday the 21st afternoon. The swell is only 3ft out of the NE with a 5-second period, but the wind goes glassy – dead calm. The combined energy is 40. This is the only time in the entire 16 days you might get a truly glassy surface. The wave shape will be poor, but it’ll be the prettiest to look at.
Overall, there are no good surf options in this window. The swell is just too small and weak. The consistent light winds mean the water will look nice, but don’t get your hopes up for a ride. The setup here is better suited for a paddleboard than a surfboard right now.
Rusty.
