The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ll be straight with you – the next couple of weeks at BC’s is a real tough one. We’re looking at a long, flat run with barely a ripple to get excited about. The whole 16-day window is pretty much a write-off, so don’t bother loading up the boards just yet.
The first real chance at anything comes on Saturday morning, 18th July. We’ve got a tiny 0.4ft NNE swell, but it’s cross-shore junk and the energy is weak (14). The afternoon picks up a bit to 4ft from the NE, with a period of 6 seconds, so it’s short-period windswell. The energy is still low (88), and the score is a 1 out of 10 – just “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions”. It’s clean, but that’s about the only positive. Honestly, it’s not worth paddling out for.
After that, it’s back to nothing much. The only other flicker of hope is Monday morning, 27th July. We see a 3ft NE swell with a 9-second period, and the energy climbs to 98 – that’s the highest we’ll see. The wind is glassy early, which is a major positive, but again, it’s only a score of 1 out of 10. The swell is tiny and the conditions are just “surfable”. It’s not a standout, just the least bad option on an otherwise blank calendar.
The rest of the days are dominated by “poor surf conditions” with zero scores. We’ve got a lot of glassy mornings, like on the 21st and 22nd July, but with swell heights barely reaching 2ft and periods of 4-5 seconds, there’s no energy to push a wave. The water temp is sitting at 84°, which is about 1° above normal – not unusual, just a warm bath.
For a spot that’s consistent and fairly exposed, this is a proper dry spell. It’s not normal for BC’s, so don’t let it get you down. Forecasts can change, and we might see a pulse of genuine swell later on. But for now, the only thing we’re catching is a suntan. Keep an eye on the charts, but I’d say save your energy for another week.
Rusty.
