Table - best surf conditions forecast for Guibia over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s coming up for Guibia over the next couple of weeks. It’s a bit of a slow start, so don’t be in a rush to get your wettie on.
Looking at the whole 16-day window, the surf is pretty hit-and-miss. We’ve got a few mornings that look like they could be worth a look, but the afternoons are mostly a write-off due to the wind swinging onshore. The standout by a long shot is the morning of Sunday the 19th. That’s the one you want to circle. Other than that, it’s a lot of small, choppy, and wind-affected slop. Water temp is sitting around 84°F, which is pretty average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
For the first week, from Saturday the 11th right through to Saturday the 18th, it’s a grim run. The swell is small, mostly around 3ft to 5ft, and coming from the ESE or SE with a short period of 7-8 seconds. That’s weak, short-period wind swell, not much grunt behind it. The combined energy is mostly in the low to mid hundreds (170, 154, 264) which tells you it’s weak. The wind is a problem too – it’s either cross, cross-on, or straight onshore from the SE or E most afternoons, turning the surface into a messy chop. Even the mornings are only offering marginal conditions. You’ll see a slight bump on Wednesday morning the 15th with a 5ft ESE swell, but the energy jumps to 398, which is moderate, but the wind is still cross, so it’s not clean. Honestly, I’d say this stretch is better for kitesurfing than paddle surfing if you’re keen on getting out there.
Finally, we get a break in the clouds. Sunday morning the 19th is the real deal for this entire forecast. We’ve got a 5ft ESE swell with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy is a solid 242. But the kicker is the wind: a light NE breeze at 6 mph, which is cross-offshore. That’s going to clean the surface right up and give you some proper lines. The water will be glassy. The break is a reef, so it can handle the direction, and the swell is coming from the optimum direction (SE). It’s going to be a good session. Keep in mind crowds are "often" here, so get there early. After that, the afternoon turns to crap with onshore wind, but that morning is gold.
After that high, the following week is mostly a drop-off. There’s a morning on Monday the 20th with a bigger 6ft ESE swell, but the energy is strong at 640. The problem is the wind is cross-on from the ESE, making it pretty lumpy. That’s a day where the size is there, but the quality is poor. For the rest of the week, it’s back to small, weak, and choppy conditions. The morning of Tuesday the 21st has a little bump with a light NE cross-off and 4ft surf, but it’s tiny and weak (129 energy). The mornings of Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th have 6ft ESE swells with strong energy (577 and 563), but again, the wind is cross-on, so it’s messy. Those are expert-only if you’re desperate, but the quality just isn’t there.
To wrap it up, if you’ve got a window, make it Sunday morning the 19th. That’s your best shot by a long way. The rest is mostly a waiting game.
Rusty.
