Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a hard look at what Guibia has cooking for us over the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – we’ve got a rocky start and a long, choppy run ahead. The only real hope is a short window of clean conditions.
Right now, the surf's not worth paddling out for. We’re looking at weak, short-period swell from the ESE, barely hitting 3 ft with a period of just 7 seconds. That’s all windswell, and an onshore breeze is just making a mess of it with a combined energy reading of only 114. For the first few days, you’re better off staying on the beach.
Things start to push up around Tuesday the 7th and Wednesday the 8th, with the swell building to 6 ft and 5 ft, but the wind stays cross-onshore gusting to 9 mph, keeping the surface chopped up. Combined energy climbs, hitting 716 on Tuesday morning, which shows there's some power in the water, but the quality is just “marginal” at best.
Thursday the 9th morning brings a bit of a pulse – 7 ft of ESE swell with a period of 8 seconds and a combined energy of 921. That’s a moderate push, and the ENE wind at 9 mph is cross-shore, which is a better angle, but it’s still not perfect. This is the first morning that feels worth a look for the more experienced crew, as the swell height is over 5 ft, making it a bit stout for beginners.
The standout of the whole outlook is the morning of Friday the 10th. The swell hits 8 ft from the ESE with a period of 9 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to a strong 1524. That’s a serious amount of water moving around. Wind is light from the east at 6 mph, creating a light cross-shore with only small wind ripples. For an exposed reef break like Guibia, that’s about as clean as we’re going to get this forecast. It’ll be a fair size, though – too much for learners, but the intermediate and above crew should be on it. Just a heads up, this break can be inconsistent, and crowds are likely often.
After that, the swell backs off a touch for the weekend, with 6 ft to 6 ft on offer, but the wind swings back onshore in the afternoons, killing the quality. The only other flicker of hope is Sunday morning, July 12th. The swell drops to 5 ft from the ESE, period at 8 seconds, with a combined energy of 254. But here’s the thing – we get a light cross-offshore breeze from the NE at 9 mph, which cleans things right up. The file says “expect good surf conditions,” and at that height, it’s a much more manageable size for a wider range of surfers. It won’t have the punch of Friday, but it’ll be glassy and fun.
The rest of the second week is a slow fade. From the 13th onward, the swell drops below 5 ft, period stays short at 7-8 seconds, and the wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore. The combined energy dips into the 100’s – just weak, choppy stuff. We’ve got a long gap from the 12th all the way through to the end of the outlook with nothing really worth getting excited about.
So, to sum it up: if you’ve got some skill, Friday morning July 10th is your best chance for some proper, powerful waves with clean lines. If you want a more relaxed, glassy session, Sunday morning July 12th is your window for clean but smaller surf. The rest of the time, it’s a whole lot of onshore chop.
Stay tuned, forecasts can change, but right now it looks patchy.
Rusty.
