The Lowdown
Grab your board, but don't get your hopes up too high. We're looking at a pretty flat and messy stretch ahead here at Guibia. The long-range models are showing some pulse, but honestly, for the next 16 days, the stars just aren't aligning for a proper session. The water temp is sitting about average for the time of year, so at least you won't be freezing while you're staring at the chop.
We kick off Friday the 17th, and it's a write-off. Only 3.6ft of weak, short-period SE windswell, with a combined energy of just 94. The wind is a cross-onshore, so it's bumpy and messy. No go. Saturday the 18th isn't any better – same story, just a little more energy (160) but still blown out by onshore winds. Sunday the 19th offers a tiny glimmer – the swell pushes to 4.6ft and the period stretches to 8 seconds, with energy hitting 248. The morning has light cross-onshore winds, but it's still only "marginal" at best. It's a maybe if you're super desperate, but it's not going to be pretty.
Then we hit a real dead zone. From Monday the 20th right through to the end of the month, it's a grim run of small, weak swell (3.6ft to 4.3ft) with periods of 6-7 seconds and energy dropping as low as 47. The wind is mostly cross-onshore or onshore, keeping the surface a mess. There's a couple of mornings with a "marginal" tag on the 26th and 30th of July, where the swell bumps up to 4.3ft and energy gets to 248 and 200, with light cross-shore wind. That's your best bet in this whole stretch, but it's still a gamble on a reef break that's already inconsistent. If you're a kiter, this onshore chop might be fun, but for a paddle surfer, it's a long wait for a weak, grovelly wave.
So, the honest truth? There's no standout winner here. The best of a bad bunch is Sunday the 20th of July morning, or maybe the 26th and 30th. Keep an eye on the sky, but honestly, I'd be finding something else to do for the next two weeks.
