Table - best surf conditions forecast for Wilderness over the next 16 days.
Right then, let's have a look at what's on offer for Wilderness over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, mate, I've gotta be straight with you – it's a bit of a flat spell. The forecast is showing a whole lot of nothing for a good long while. We're looking at a real quiet period stretching from Saturday the 11th all the way through to the end of the outlook on the 26th. The wave energy is just not there. You'll see combined swell energy values sitting mostly between 0 and 68, which is weak to very weak. It’s not ideal.
Let's break it down. For the first ten days or so, from Saturday the 11th through to at least the 22nd, the swell heights are tiny. We're talking mostly 0.3ft to 1ft. The data keeps repeating "poor surf conditions," and I can see why. The winds are mostly cross-off, which keeps the surface clean, but with waves that small, there's nothing to ride. A few spots, like Saturday morning the 25th, show a glassy surface with a bit of a north breeze and a 2ft swell, but the period is only 7 seconds. That’s just not enough push for a proper session. The best height we see is a 3ft NE swell on Saturday afternoon the 25th, but it's only a 6-second period, so it's going to be weak and crumbly. The combined energy for that is 68 (weak).
Now, a standout? There isn't one, really. Nothing here gets the heart racing. If I was forced to pick a session that might be worth a paddle, I'd say keep an eye on the morning of Thursday the 23rd. We have a glassy, calm wind and a 1ft NE swell. The water temp is sitting at 84°F, which is about a degree and a half warmer than average for this time of year, so it’s pleasant. But 1ft is still only knee-high at best. For a beginner, anything over 5ft is too much, so the size isn't an issue, but the lack of it is. The break itself is a beach and reef setup that's fairly consistent and for advanced surfers, but with these micro-swells, it’d be hard to get a wave even on a longboard.
It’s a tough outlook. There are no true standouts. The entire 16-day window looks like it’ll be a write-off for any decent wave riding. Stick to the snorkel or a SUP, and hope the forecasts change for the better.
